- Our off grid cabin is nestled in the woods on a 20 acre parcel of land in Ontario, Canada.
Over the last 3 years, we’ve been improving our land, building the driveway, renovating the cabin, and spending lots of time outdoors.
Follow along as we make further improvements including adding more buildings.

Only thing I would miss is a bathroom of some sort inside. I’ve used an outhouse in my youth and teen yrs…….but I’m almost 71 now and would really prefer an inside toilet! Everything is really pretty….location is beautiful! Best of Luck!
Thank you! We did what we could with what we had to work with. Our new building has a toilet and a shower.
Nice I agree a toilet would be nice
@@highlandoffgrid I get it…..y’all did an amazing job! I used the outhouse while staying with my grandma and grandpa…..where I actually lived we had inside bathroom but honestly I loved it out in the country and woods so much the outhouse didn’t really bother me that much at all…except when it was like 20 dev out or in a thunderstorm! But for those times our grandma came up with some ingenious ways to go! What you’ve done is really beautiful….I could live there.
@@patriciaevans5906 eventually we will. For now it’s our hangout spot.
@@highlandoffgrid even without an inside bathroom I could still live there….the scenery is beautiful…..as is the cabin!

Thanks Marvin
Very nice place,thanks for sharing!
Thanks for visiting
Love this. From Oswego ny on lake Ontario thanks
Beautiful cabin, Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I bought in New Brunswick, buildable land is just so expensive here in Ontario. 20K got me 5 acres within a 35 minute drive of a hub city with lots of services. IT wouldnt even get me parking here. Love your little cabin, it's what we will start out with for afew years. A nice safe place to disappear into the woods.
Nice place 😃. All the best for you and your family.
Thanks John!
first time i see your video thanks great watching 👍👍👍
Welcome!
Beautiful! We just bought a private island in greater sudbury and have lots of plans for the cottage on it!
Nice cabin. Good luck with new builds.
Thank you!
love it so relaxing from uk granny
Glad you enjoyed it
I like the ceiling the way it is. Just straighten the wire a little
Very nice cabin build.😎👍👍🇨🇦
Glad you like it
Nice cabin. I have a 20’ x 24’ cabin on some acreage in Ky. I do have the luxury of having electricity but no running water or toilet. I shower out of a 5 gal bucket using a battery powered shower wand. Cooking is on a grill or a propane camp stove but lots of the time I just warm up stuff in the microwave. My porch is 6 ft wide and it’s just right...
Sounds lovely!
Hi. Ur vid happened to come up on my utube thread. May I say ( I'm Scottish) I was happy to hear ur tips, like everybody needs a fire extinguisher ! & how u complimented the builder on the job he did. Never gonna hear that from an American .( I had to move here, my Dad sent us to the usa; to my Gran who stayed after ww2) . So refreshing! All the best to u & urs Go Canadians !!!! ♡ I'm retired now living in a full size Skoolie
My mom immigrated to Canada in 1955 after the war. We are proud Canadians but also proud to be Scots!
Nice! Good luck with the builds and development. Cheers!
Another thanks GP. We’re having fun building up our property. Your work is an inspiration for me, although I’m likely to neglect your diligence with maintenance etc. lol. Appreciate the watch.
@@highlandoffgrid Cheers!
Very Nice!
I have a timber frame cabin in the woods in British Columbia. 624 sq ft plus a half loft.
Love the cabin I can't wait until I can find one and have a small acreage
Go for it!

Good video. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you!
You can get a toilet seat made to fit a 5-gallon bucket or get a Luggable Loo.
Nice spot
Thanks 👍
I hope your cabin is still standing with all the fires in Canada. Good luck.
Fire free here! Thank you
Reminds me of my cabin I love it up there you gotta get solar just build it yourself panels charge controller batteries and minimum 1500 watt inverter get 12 vdc led bulbs and a same voltage tv water pump and you will be in business bud
Thanks man. We have plans for a large solar system eventually. For now the solar generators work fine
from Canada new Brunswick
Thanks for watching
get some bat houses my man, i thought those mosquitos were birds at first lol love the cabin!
Lots of bats. Wayyyy more black flies
🤘
The loft is sweet
Thanks Ken!
This is what I hope to build later this year, OSB was a mistake not to buy a bunch while it was $10 a sheet, it's $20 where I'm at now
OSB is disposable.
Nice vid… just discovered your channel +1 sub 👍👍👍
Thank you!
Currently looking for (at least) 20 acres around Huntsville area. Hopefully, in an unorganized township. Your place looks great.
Good luck David. If you need a structure, Highland Outbuildings is the place to go.
I hope you got lots of money, Huntsville is VERY pricey
@armourofgod6310 so are every unorganized townships
How about a link to your inside light setup you said was from Amazon and also the 12V frig
I'd live there full time
We will some day
Smoke alarms and fire drills, the loft makes me nervous. Nice setup tho
We have and do both. We also have an emergency ladder upstairs. Thanks
I clicked on this because of that beautiful flag
Wish I had this on my land so i could move out of this apartment can't believe I pay 800 a month for a one bedroom here that a train is 20 feet from back door
Nice work. Do you by any chance have a link to the light system from Amazon?
I can’t seem to find it but it was from eco worthy if memory serves
Which light system off Amazon is it? Cute cabin!
No longer available from what I can tell.
How would you say it’s been cooking on the wood stove ? We plan on getting a wood stove to completely heat the tiny cabin but for cooking I was gonna just get propane tanks hooked up to a range. BUT if this is more efficient I would cook with the stove instead ?
Do both.
i love your cabin i am shopping for land and looking at little houses to build and your little house is pretty much exactly like what i have in mind. im just wondering what size id want it to be Can you tell me what size yours is long wide and tall? really cool I'm looking at a nice wooded 10 acres
Hi Carol. This one is 12x20. Total height is around 15 feet. If I built it I would go a touch bigger at 12x24. If you’re Canadian check out @highlandoutbuildings we sell turn key cabins and tiny homes
This is cool. Could you share the link to the lights of Amazon?
Can’t find it anymore. I’m sure it will pop up again
Liked it could you upload some of with attached toilet bathroom please...from India 🙏 Nmastey
I'm really interested in your amazon window unit solar panel set up. Where would I find more information about that? Please and thank you
Can’t find it anymore. We’ve upgraded to the biolite lights in two other cabins and they’re amazing
@@highlandoffgrid Oh thank you for responding. I guess I'll look into biolite. I appreciate the info🙂
Can you give more information on the solar please, thank you
The lights in the cabin are just a cheap kit bought from Amazon.
I would love to do this but finding land is difficult of where I am. How did you find your land and how much did it cost?
We looked for land for years. It is difficult to find the right spot. We used a realtor who sent us listings until the right one came along in a specific area.
We paid about twice what it was worth in 2020 when we bought it compared to it being listed previously. The world had gone mad during Covid.
It was a very raw piece of land at $6000/acre at the time. We’ve put a lot more into it since.
Can you share a link for the solar lights?
Can’t find it anymore. Sorry. We now use biolite lights. They’re great
Hey, how did you go about getting something like this? How far is this from Toronto? I m looking to get something like this myself.
We looked for land for years. Eventually got lucky. Find a real estate agent with local knowledge in the area you want. They have the scoop
Nice cabin. Do you have bears in the area? If yes, how do you deal with them?
Sure there are bears here. We usually smile and wave.
@@highlandoffgrid sitting in the cabin?)
Is this a unorganized township? I'm in Ontario and am wondering how far north do you need to go? Also is there a lake near by? Thanks
Hey there. There are many unorganized townships in Ontario. They start around the Parry Sound area. Lots more north of North Bay and Sudbury
What N Parallel are you at? In Minnesota, I'm at 45⁰ N, and you said that you are in Ontario.
We’re also on the 45th!
@@highlandoffgrid I want to purchase a chunk of land in Northern Minnesota, not too far from the Canadian border.
hello
What’s a griddle???
Flat, cast iron with burners underneath.
Toilet?
We have an outhouse, and an incinerating toilet in our other cabin
Where is our good Canadian content on utube,
In reference to off grid and rural?
This was silly. Sorry!!!
Hey Dan! Get bent!
Kinda buggy! And no bathroom?
We shit in the outhouse.
@@highlandoffgrid yeah I’m not walking outside in the middle of the night to take a piss. I’d do a compost toilet at the very least.
Like 👍
Very cool, great plan for expansion. Is this going to be a hunting camp also?
It already is!
