MSFS 2020 | REVIEW: Liverpool Airport [EGGP] Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 Addon

  • I'm not sure how I missed this but I did! I'd like to say finally but the sim has only been out for 4 months so it's pretty good to have so much third-party content already.
    Today I'm looking at Digital Designs Liverpool John Lennon Airport, the default scenery is again basic and doesn't look at all like the airport in real life. Let's see if this payware airport is any good.

    What a fantastic review this is.Nice to see a local sim enthusiast who is in the Northwest region. I lived in Preston for 6 years and now living in the Isle of Man for almost 9 years.
    We always fly out of Liverpool Airport to the Isle of Man during the pre-Covid era. John Lennon Airport is so handy as you can get loads of choices for car rental just right across the building and the parked cars are very accessible as well.
    This scenery is one of the best I have so far in MSFS. They even modelled the Premier Inn hotel as well right down the road which is much cheaper than the Hilton and the distance is also reasonable.
    We almost got the same PC setup and this scenery I could say is very framerate friendly even with all the details added onto it.
    Again, brilliant review! Well done!

      It was great to see the detail after working inside the terminal for about 5 years off and on and also flying out regularly to Prague since 2015.
      These guys also made a pretty convincing Salzburg Airport which I recently reviewed too, I'm looking forward to more from them. Also I will be doing a bunch of videos this Thursday onwards about the UK update, from what I've seen the new EGGP that comes with the update is okay but not on the same level as Digital Design one.
      I shall be doing some before and afters for cities and airports included in the update later this week :)
      Thank you so much for watching and commenting, makes me very happy that people are enjoying my videos.
      All the best 😊

    Great looking airport, just needs some jet static aircraft placed in the right area’s and maybe some business jet’s etc. Hope it makes it on the sim market place, because they make excellent airports. Great job with the video. 😊

      Thank you so much 👍 it's my local Airport so I absolutely love seeing it in the sim, I hope Digital Design decide to update with a interior similar to their recent Lyon Airport, I'm actually hoping other developers create Liverpool Airport and Manchester just so we have some choice.
      Thanks for giving my video a watch and leaving a comment, all the best 👍

    I always remember parking on Dungeon Lane at the end of the runway watching the planes land and take off. Shame they have blocked it off now.

      I couldn't think of the name of the lane while doing the video, it certainly brought back memories of being there sitting in the car with my airband radio. I remember one time when the Liverpool team flew back on A330 and I ran from the terminal to the mound just too see it land, this was when I was working at the airport :D I was on lunch break at the time.

    Never been to Liverpool. Maybe one day :-).The scenery looks great and interesting. Great detailing of the surroundings. I’ll check the price and maybe I’ll buy it as a gateway to the midwest of the UK. Thanks for the review PG and greetings from Norway.

      Thank you :) the scenery is certainly interesting but better once using this payware. I'm interested to see what Asobo do with the UK update later this month and whether its better than this for Liverpool Airport.
      All the best and Happy New Year to you.

      😁 Cheers Simon - I hope they add some landmark buildings to Liverpool when they release UK update - i know they are adding Liverpool Airport but I'd hope to see Liver buildings etc because the city centre area looks awful in the sim.
      That said keep an eye out for my video showing the default and Asobo update EGGP at the end of the month, I'm interested to see if its any better or worse than this one by Digital Designs.

    They have a tomahawk on the tarmac. Awesome.

      Yeah those are custom static Piper PA 38 that the Liverpool GA flying school use.

    Hi ... Just a quick question from a fellow scouser. Enjoyed your review on Digital Designs EGGP. I use Just Flight FS Traffic when opening EGGP it has spawned AI traffic namely a EasyJet A319 an Loganair E145 and a RyanAir B738 on the GA ramp down at the bottom outside Keenair hangar. Curious if you had the same problem. Mike off Rice lane.

      Hi Mike, cheers mate 👍 I've not seen or encountered that sorry mate but tbh I prefer the freeware FSTL from the flybywire installer - the models aren't as detailed but I feel the sounds and overall positioning of aircraft is better. With that said I haven't used FS Traffic for a while so I don't know if they have updated it to be better. Hope this helps.

    How do you think this now compares to the Asobo version in World Update 3? Is it still worth buying in your opinion?

    • @PracticallyAviation
      @PracticallyAviation  Před 3 lety

      Had a lot of interest with this and may do a video - I think this payware is far more detailed, I have a video out tomorrow showing the old default Liverpool vs the new uk update one and there is a picture of the Hilton hotel and you can see the massive difference in detail. That said there are some nice parts of the Asobo version, interior and the fire practice area look stunning. There is just more to the Digital Design one. I shall look into doing a new Asobo version and DD version comparison video.

    • @CromUK
      @CromUK Před 3 lety +1

      @@PracticallyAviation thank you. What interests me is all the additional scenery around the airport, the Mersey Gateway, Runcorn Bridges and Fiddlers ferry. I know that there are freeware photogrammetry versions but there appears to be so much more in the DD version from what I can see in videos.
      Don't get me wrong I'm impressed with the Asobo version but as Orbx have the DD version just under a tenner I'm so tempted

    • @PracticallyAviation
      @PracticallyAviation  Před 3 lety

      The normal price is worth it imo so while it's on sale I'd grab it while you can.

      @@PracticallyAviation Bought.. Too late to try it out now but will have a good mess around over the weekend. Looking forward to your comparison video. Enjoyed the Barton one. Happy now I have EGGP, EGCB and Maccosim's EGCC in my collection. All local and hopefully the 3 best in the sim.

    • @PracticallyAviation
      @PracticallyAviation  Před 3 lety

      @@CromUK Make sure to delete Asobo EGGP out your content manager within the sim otherwise it will conflict and you will see both sceneries overlaying each other.
      Have fun with it buddy, I have more UK payware airports coming throughout next week like the Orbx Dundee and Newcastle.

    Is this compatible with Microsoft flight simulator X steam edition

    • @PracticallyAviation
      @PracticallyAviation  Před 3 lety +1

      This particular scenery is for MSFS 2020, unfortunately Digital Designs only has Liverpool Airport for X Plane 11 and P3D.
      That said I've link here the UK2000 Liverpool Airport scenery for FSX which would work for you, the price is 19 Euros so probably 17-18 pounds. It won't look like this of course but from the screenshots it looks detailed for FSX.
