  • When you last bought some avocados from the supermarket, did you consider what troubles those went through? We no longer wonder about getting fresh fruits from Peru, furniture from China and meat from South Africa. However, in a few years, some of our infrastructure will be so heavily used, that it may become clogged. Bart will share his idea of what can be done to prevent this, such that society can continue to depend on goods from around the world. Bart van Riessen works for Hutchison Ports Europe Container Terminals (ECT) Rotterdam, responsible for the development of digital information services for the container supply chain. He has worked on integrated transportation services, called synchromodality, since 2013 and did his PhD research on the same topic. During these years, Bart developed several mathematical models to address practical issues of implementing synchromodality. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
