@@Conny226 I have a horse and he liked to buck a lot. So I would get really scared whenever I asked him to lope Because he would buck. I finally had to face my fear if I wanted to continue riding him so one day I got on him and loped him around. And he still bucked a few times and eventually Iâll learned to sit it. After a while of me just riding him and bonding with him and more than just riding, spending time with him and bonding with him really helped us. Now Me and him have a great bond and he doesnât buck much anymore.

I have always done the same thing to bond/make friends with horsesâŠâŠfind the itchy spot and scratch away, I concentrate on the places that they canât scratch themselves â€

I've been riding for over 50 years and when I was young I followed advice given by instructors and trainers which was sometimes good but usually not. I always felt there had to be a better way. In the last 20/30 years I've seen 'natural horsemanship' come to the fore and videos like yours are very refreshing to watch. I just hope that 'old school' riders and trainers take on board how important real communication with your horse is. Sadly I still see riders strapping their horses down and using riding aids that are wholly inappropriate, all due to their lack of patience, ability and understanding. The first thing I do with any horse I get to work with is strip everything off and start the basics again. Keep up the good work, you are encouraging a whole generation of riders to do better.
My dream is to own a horse at some point and ride bridleless, maybe even bareback to top it off. I don't see the point in a bridle if people can jump and ride perfectly without one and it's less intrusive and potentially painful to the horse as well
I totally agree i try to tell people this so much. But sadly a lot of people dont listen. I hope natural horsemanship really shines more as time goes on.
I think your CZcams channel should be attached to every new lunge line, lead rope, crop...everything! So so so helpful and great for a new horse owner. I TRULY enjoy your videos. I found this very helpful. My filly is much like Tucker and just wants to be near people. I didnât realize until I watched this that I have been setting her up for Liberty training all along! Very encouraging!
My horse is the same way! He just loves to cling to you and hover over you, and itâs not just me. I always say that he is just a lover boy.
Horses like this usually do great with liberty training! I have a few now that I work with like this that have picked up some liberty stuff very quickly!

Okay, I have to thank you for explaining what you are doing. I really appreciate it. I have watched a ton of videos, and I really like that you explain what you are doing, and how you are doing it.
In fact I've always had a horse following me and during a lunging free session. I never used a lunge line unless at a horseshow and no ring was available. I rode bareback with a halter just to be able to tie my pony up if I stopped for lunch in Davie. All my ponies came to me all my ponies followed me. I didn't make a big project out of showing liberty or dressage but used it all along. Never knew that they would call it liberty some day!

I really like your style with horses and then with people. As you say sing treats arenât the best way⊠bottom line as with any relationship attempting to bondâŠ., time. Together and silence⊠tuning in to a different speciesâŠ. So specialâŠ. A bond canât be bought/ stolen / or mastered onlineâŠ. Requires change in peoples perceptionâŠ.. all is oneâŠ. We are here to dominate as many tryâŠ. With people and animalsâŠ. Itâs a learning curve that may be endless⊠and thatâs great⊠esp both people and horses possess suchâŠ. Activate those feelingsâŠ. Thank you though your principle s are superb and helps me with my daughtersâŠâŠ I have a two year old Appaloosa from Montana Indian reservationâŠ.. those children live with the horse like family⊠they are masters without reading a book etcâŠ. Be proud of what you do cause it is special

Thank you for the comment about TREAT bribing horses. Horses can learn without treats as you know, and I have witnessed more negative outcomes from treating horses in appropriately or with bad timing etc etc....

I really subsribe to NOT giving treats... Carrots and apples I give straigt into the bucket where they get their oats. I hate to think that they come to me with an expectation of a food reward. Thanks for saying this! :)

I ask all my channel hosts the same question: is horseback riding like riding a bike per-say?? I had horses as a child til my 20s and its been almost 30 years lol! How can I get my horse to do all these things if he has one eye. He already comes up to me and follows me but Iâve only done this in the round pen. This helped a lot thoughđ
Iâve never heard of anyone who trained their horse to turn both ways in the round pen! Thatâs really cool, I was always taught it was disrespect and showed they didnât care if they faced their butt at you and turned away while round penning. I like your video good job!

With dogs you usually do 15-30 minutes of training, and then give them 15-30 minutes of fun! Give em scratches, let them graze, etc. This also allows them to have some time to contemplate what they just learned and can actually help things go faster instead of mentally draining them and making the activity no longer seem entertaining.
I figure its similar with horses.

I've been riding 50 years as the other lady who commented not all old school riders improperly use "aids". We just didn't know about liberty yet. That being said I try to incorporate the new school with the old but my ways weren't bad "strapping things on" wasn't my way. There's no wrong if there's respect, communication and reward. I've always used that. Nothing new!

Do you have any tips for someone without access to a round pen? I'd love to start this with my horse but i am finding it hard to keep his focus.
My barn doesn't have a round pen and I've been able to get really far with liberty train pretty fast. I would just say use your sand arena first (so there aren't any distractions such as other horses and grass), the move up to a pasture. Keep a lead rope or rope halter on them and just slowly make the lead loser and loser until you don't have to hold it. Then begin going ahead of your horse to get them to follow you. And if you feel like lunging will help the bond between you and your horse, I would recommend getting a lunge line or just using a long lead rope. Hope this helps â€ïž

My horse was attached to me ever since I got her.
So when I am leading my horse in from the paddock she always walks super slow, probably 4 feet behind me⊠always trying to snatch grass and all that. But when I ride her she is hyper. So I donât really know if she is considered a lazy horse or not. She is a mustang and I am doing an open show with her in September and I want to do some cool stuff with her

So. I got my horse in October 2020 and whenever I lunge him and pick up the crop he canters and doesnât stop until I put it down? I donât know much about his past experience but could you maybe give me some tips? I donât know if itâs the crop or if he still doesnât trust me.
sorry I am not her but you might wanna show him it's not something to be scared of (desensitise) you'll find alot of tutorials on that.
you might also try staying closer to the front of his shoulder (asking him to go slower/stop) while picking up the crop.
By holding the crop/whip up, you are putting pressure on, which is asking him to go forward. He's doing what you're asking. Lowering the whip takes pressure off, which will allow them to slow and/or stop (if that's what you want).
Now, if you're saying he's running away in fear, that's different. Start with him next to you and touch him all over with the whip until he relaxes and doesn't feel the need to "run away" from it.

With my horse I do it with a saddle It is just more safer for me and her because she tries to get out of work by flicking your head up and putting her ears back I'm thinking when I go to trial ride with my friends again I will have a bridle on her and the neck rein so she can get used to xbonding with that too so do not have to have a bridle on her when I ride with friends I will be hard because she's so used to have a bit in her mouth and you ride her because I has been a show horse all her life and she is 13 now

Hi Madison! If you don't have a round pen, you can work the horse on a lunge line and focus on communicating with body language rather than pressure on the rope. Hope this helps!

@@annedial8261 Hi Anne! I've had times that my horse doesn't want to be caught and it's usually because every time I had taken him out, he was worked hard or had a frustrating session. To get over this, I started making sure that it wasn't always work when I took him from his field. It needs to be enjoyable for your horse out of the pasture for them to want to come to you and be taken from it if that makes sense

Personally, I didn't need one. I just use a lead rope and lead my horse around. I made the lead looser and looser lead until he just naturally followed me. It definitely helps that my horse is just a good horse who loves humans, but I found this way to be just as effective with the actual following part but not so much the calling part. That required separate training.
