- In this vlog we are going on tour with the village boys. We are going to attend a birthday at vatukacevaceva village which is located in Ra Province.
In order to get to the village we have to go to the mainland and drive to Rakiraki town where we are going on a sideroad towards vatukacevaceva village.
Our niece is turning one which is a big celebration in Fijian culture and this vlog showcase some of the preparation and birthday rituals that comes with it.

I think the mountain legend of that province is the same as the legend in Manua Island in Samoa and Fagaloa in Upolu Samoa.
Tui Manu'a,the Manua people of Samoa,the Manukas" and the Nomuka people of Tonga derived from the original Namuka tribe of Fiji.That was why they have the same legends..
And what legends are those? Because I am from that clan in Manu'a
@lauiloa you can Google Tagaloalagi and read it to understand. Manuatele is the name of Tagaloalagi's son who became the king of king in Manuatele. Almost the same as Lu Fasi Aitu of Fagaloa.

That's where my husband's ancestors originally came from Narauyaba Ra, but they now reside in Nukutubu Rewa, today most of the youngsters are going back to do farming and reside there.

That lady joking to Josese during taro cooking is speaking in her dialect from Vanua Levu the northern main island. Their dialect omit the letter K. Lako (go) is La'o. Bula vinaka is bula re, bula si'a or bula vina'a 😊Notice how she's joking to the boys calling them tau or tauvu which means their ancestors are related 😊

Looks wonderful. Delicious food. I would recommend making some sun ovens to parallell cooking on the the woodstoves. It looks like the hills are quite deforested. Yet I realize that wood cooking is an integral part of the culture. So I wish that this would become a possibility besides, so they could do both.

What a beautiful trip across the Country to celebrate a special birthday.for this little girl. Its amazing how far Fijians will travel for occasions like this of which I have been myself as an honouring Fijian, unfortunately for me I was born in the wrong Country lol! Im please to listened to your elders advice and did not visit the sacred mountains very wise move I feel. Agreed 💯💯💯 Throughout the Pacific islands we each have sacred landmarks that are forbidden and protected from disturbances. We placed taboos / Tapu/ Kapu among visitors to maintain their peaceful status.
Elders have hunches and gut feelings about randomly visiting those protected areas. So it’s best to just respect them and stay away. 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
