"what were you doing in England, going to school?' Paul Simon ' I was hearing the drizzle of the rain, gazing from my window to the streets below, writing songs that voices never heard', that kind of thing, you know.
Hello I've been a Simon Garfunkel fan for 20 years. I liked it since high school, but I still like it now. But every time I listen to the Simon Garfunkel song, I am really surprised. The reason is so great. People around me have seen a lot of people who don't understand what they like Simon Garfunkel to me. Still, I love Simon Garfunkel. As a musician, I've also heard all of Paul Simon Art's Garfunkel solo albums. My English is weak, so I turn it up with Google Translate. hope you understand. Korean youth Song Ho-wook
Quite good things were made in 1966. Not just me, born May 1st at my parent's home. Even if Labour Day finally became April 30th, because my parents discovered that they would receive child support for the whole month of April, even if a child was born the last day of the month. And since my father didn't earn that much, May 1st around 2 in the morning became April 30th, almost midnight.... Creativity is a thing that comes in many shapes !
To this very day and the next days to come, this duo will remain my favorite musicians of all time. The early live performances were amazing, just pure genuine talent.
They performed on the Mike Douglas Show at KYW-TV's studio in Philadelphia. I know that studio as my dad worked at the station for many years and would take me there sometimes. It was a small set in the basement of an office building, 1719 Walnut Street to be exact. I was about 5 at the time of this performance - too young to appreciate S&G then though in another few years I surely did!
It's very touching how S & G can lay a tribute to Dylan like that with no ego except to lift him high and deliver the song like they are less than him ...
I thought Simon was on his own in England when the single was released, having already parted ways with Garfunkel. Both were great on their own, but they were magic together. Such a shame they found it so difficult to work together.
What a lost gem this is! I've never heard the second song before but it was a treat for me as well as hearing them do Mr. Tambourine Man. And I love the interview portion. Love hearing these guys speak.
You Can Tell The World was one of the folk songs they recorded for the first album which was mentioned. "Wednesday Morning 3AM" with the original version of Sounds of Silence has always been a favorite of mine - with some early songs of Paul's that show you how great a writer he was early on.
You Can Tell The World was really an old Gibson & Camp song. Along with the Everly Brothers, Gibson & Camp were the biggest harmony influencers of S&G (in my view). S&G copied a lot of Gibson & Camp's song. Have a listen to Gibson & Camp live at the Gate of Horn and you'll see why many consider it one of the most influential folk albums of all time
Notice they chose to perform the original acoustic version of "Sound Of Silence" even though there is a drummer and bass player behind them who could have performed the added instrumentation like the hit single. Also note almost all the Mike Douglas performances are usually live, not lip synced. Or a singer will perform "live to track" (sing live to the instrumental mix of their hit song). Done when it's not feasible to fly in an entire band or backing musicians.
Ridiculous! Incredible! Fantastic! It simply does not get any better. What talent! And the best is that they are still with us! Thank you to the creators of this piece and to youtube for such a wonderful product. This is the very best of humanity!
What a treasure!! This is amazing on many levels. Hearing Simon & Garfunkel performing "You Can Tell The World" live is something I never thought I'd hear. Especially from this period. I am equally amazed at them doing Dylan as part of their set. By 1966 Paul Simon had written a number of songs so you'd think they'd have featured his brilliant songwriting. Thanks so much for posting this. Made my day.
Always wanted to hear " You can tell the world ", live and now it sounds better than the studio version which was not given to muchsupport as Paul and art were unknown to the heads of C.B.S. records. Thank you for showing this version.
Tell them that Gospel has come... the man from Galilee has been hanging around in Paul Simon's sensibilities all these years. I reckon he is opening up to spirituality in his latter days... Anyone agree?
Thank you so much for uploading the other two songs and interview.. Was so hoping you would after watching your upload of the Sound Of Silence from the show a couple of years ago, Such a rarity !
I am an Italian person. Most Unfortunately the last elections on September were won by a far-right coalition, which uses to italianize all foreign words, thus Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel would become: “Paolo Simone ed Arturo G”. But nevertheless their music is just jolly good!
An engineer gave Sounds of Silence The Byrds treatment by adding an electric guitar. Wonder if Simon had heard the new version on the radio instead of seeing at the top of the charts he would have thrown a fit about artistic integrity not wanting to sell out folk?
It was producer Tom Wilson who overdubbed a whole band (the guys who were recording with Bob Dylan on Like A Rolling Stone). Simon and Garfunkel never sold out their artistic integrity, as evidenced by the fact that they never toured with a band (despite repeated pressures from the record company) until 1969 in support of their last studio album.
you can tell the world...song, wow...two jews singing a gospel song about jesus christ, and singing it, better than anyone...i luv it....also mr tamborine, right on, better than dylan, note...the harmonies!
@@nicolettekoehler5245 haha the song says you can tell them what the Master has done, that the Gospel is come, that the victorys been won ...He brought joy, joy, joy, joy, joy into my heart....
Simon was talking about paying the rents. You don't have to pay the rents, dear. You can live in your own 5 million dollar house. You made your future.
Paul Simon always looked like a literary type. He studied English at college. That's why his lyrics are so rich.
Poesía, el compositor de Mr. Tambourine Man es Bob Dylan.
"what were you doing in England, going to school?'
Paul Simon ' I was hearing the drizzle of the rain, gazing from my window to the streets below, writing songs that voices never heard', that kind of thing, you know.
This is awesome, I love it, hah!
This was recorded 9 days after the Sound of Silence went number 1 on the billboard hot 100
So young and fresh-faced. I adore these two equally. Love them and still miss them together.
They look so happy here singing. Guess when you just find out your song has charted after 2 years makes you very happy. Thank you so much for posting.
Yo nunca olvidare su musica aunque hayan pasado muchos años igual sus canciones estaran en mi corazon❤...
I love Artie Garfunkel. Always have and always will.
the best duo ever, they will last for eternity
A live version of "You Can Tell The World". Cool.

Wow! Simon and Garfunkel singing raw. Love this
Love to see more.
I love how you can see the concentration on their faces

Never heard this live version. Amazing duo.
Thank you...
Absolute genius.

Garfunkel came a few times to visit and they performed together in a few folk clubs - he didn’t live in England, only Paul did.
One of my most favorites.Great....
The legendary Mike Douglas. I always thought this song was much better without the drums.
A very powerful song .I love it
I enjoy listening to all their songs. Great dou. Such a shame that they had to part ways when they were in their prime years.
😥
Pure talent
A great find!
OH MY GOD I LOVE YOU!! Thank you so much for uploading this!

interesting. Admittedly, I always thought that 'tell the world' was weak, and your info adds insight.

Thank you for sharing
Wow !!Thank you so much !!
THANK YOU for this amazing video. I missed it the first time around.
Thank you so very much for sharing !!!! Hello from Paris (France)
Bonjour
Still a little innocence was left in 1966. But not for long.
Tell them that Gospel has come... the man from Galilee
has been hanging around in Paul Simon's sensibilities all these years.
I reckon he is opening up to spirituality in his latter days... Anyone agree?
I reckon you may be right.
100%
Surprised..did they believe in God back then ?
Goldig, echt❤uns so bodenständig,,schreiben um die Miete zu zahlen,, ❤❤❤ich kann nicht mehr 😍
i like them
Love this so much, thank you for uploading.
I wonder what Paul was thinking when the host asked if they'd been going to school and looked at him lol
Thank you so much for uploading the other two songs and interview.. Was so hoping you would after watching your upload of the Sound Of Silence from the show a couple of years ago, Such a rarity !

garfunkel's hair looks like it's blowin in the wind, stage right...
nao me canso de ouvir!!!

Why do you think they were talking about Jesus?
They did "Go Tell It On The Mountain" on the same album."
@@nicolettekoehler5245 haha the song says you can tell them what the Master has done, that the Gospel is come, that the victorys been won ...He brought joy, joy, joy, joy, joy into my heart....
Paul makes sure he gets it in that he does the writing
This early in their career, that makes perfect sense. He DID do the writing and, as time has revealed, he did it brilliantly.
Paul did the writing, and Art acknowledged it, too. So no big deal who wrote it. It is the final result that makes the difference.
@@susanhunter7124 Actually it was an example of Paul thinking of himself instead of the Duo. His ego never EVER slept.
@@linjicakonikon7666 I agree with that. You put it in a nice way. Thanks.
They were much better looking than I would have thought, especially Garfunkel.
Also, Garfunkel kinda looks like he's tripping balls.
Wow... funny they ended with Dylan's "Hey Mr Tambourine Man"... before they created their own great hit.
I think that The Seekers version of “You can tell the World” is better. Paul Simon also wrote one of their big hits “Someday, One Day”.
Yes...I believe he co-wrote several songs with Bruce Woodley of the seekers.
It all comes down to bob dylan
Simon was talking about paying the rents. You don't have to pay the rents, dear. You can live in your own 5 million dollar house. You made your future.
He wouldn't have made any money without Garfunkel. His solo album flopped too.
The sounds of our age. I hope its not for the nothingness, you do not know.
Who were those band players in the background?
They defo look like the cheshire cat and the white rabbit 😂😂
How many of you are stoned afffff
just you
Tbh after reading that paul secretly went solo and art felt hurt, in all these video's art looks miserable. Its kind of sad
