You need to practice as much as you can. And if its just simple-ish songs youll be able to play them very soon

it's so weird when you're used to piano music that tells you all the stuff about the rhythm and then guitar tabs don't tell you at all lol

I have played the guitar for over 40 years ( and have pieces which people like on youtube) but never bothered to learn tabs. Your introduction was clear and easy to follow and is my new years promise to myself to learn and expand my knowledge ) even though I.'m well into my 60's now thank you.

As a piano player my whole life and starting my guitar journey I can say....holy crap, trying to change the way I read sheet music to tab is a big learning block. I tend to over think it too much. Thanks for making it easier to understand!
As a beginner and I just learnt "shallow" chords, was my wife's favourite song, I basically got a guitar to learn the amazing comfortably numb solo. I don't care if it takes 5 years and it's the only thing I can play, I am determined to play it!!
Life would be a lot easier if the lines on the tabs were like the guitars, meaning first string on the line is the thickest. I don't know who decided to do it that way back in the day but fk me it would be better, no?

I don’t understand why the tabs are ass backwards from the guitar...shouldn’t the top E be actually on the Damn top not bottom shit is so confusing for a beginner
Its because on the stave (what most other instruments use) there are different cleffs that go together on top of each other depending on the pitch. Bass clef is lower and above bass clef is treble clef. There are also things such as alto clef which are in between, but you can just look those up. :)

I benefitted from laying it down in my lap and looking at it, kinda like reading it on paper. To me it looks just like the diagrams that way 👍🏽
I agree. Just remember when holding the guitar the bottom or first string is closest to the floor . On the sheet make the 6th line thicker with your pencil . These are good reminders . I do agree it's a little confusing . It's up to us to make it less confusing. Good luck !!!

Thanks Justin. I have been avoiding your advice about tabs for about six months. But I have come to trust you and my progress following your instructions has astounded me. So I recently bit the bullet, printed out some pages of tab forms and started the exercises in the tab lessons. It’s really been kind of an epiphany when I realized that I haves tool to learn some of my favorite solos that I have loved over the years just using a pencil and paper. Of course you have been telling us that pretty much from the get go. This lesson just kind of reinforced your emphasis on the importance of using and trusting your ears.
So glad I found this man, what a true inspiration when it comes to doing something you love and spreading joy in the mind and hearts of others. I applaud people like you sir, lets get you to 1 million, ASAFP .. you know what the f stands for ...

I’m a 15 year worship leader. I’ve never learned to read music or guitar tabs. Relatively recently, I set out to learn new things and tabs were one of them. I’ve tried so many times and failed. Initially, I learned how to play guitar from you (Justin) from watching your CZcams videos and learning chords, and now, I’ve learned something new from you. It’s good to know that when I need to learn something new on my guitar I can go right back to my original source to learn from. Thank you! :)

I know nothing about guitar and I really want to learn, and I looked in a tab book at guitar center that had the musical note version and I was so scared idk that since 2nd grade recorder 😂💀

I love it that you talk about traditional notation because I am a pianist and I want to relate the guitar and the keyboard to some degree. Very few people that I have listened to try to make any connection between the 2

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for this video. This was just what I was looking for. I've been trying to teach myself guitar and so far I can only play a few chords. I've always been able to read music but I always thought guitar tab looked so complicated! I'm so pleased I found this video, it's going to open a whole new world for me! I downloaded a guitar learning app that I couldn't make sense off called UG Chords and Tabs. Started the free trial and cancelled because none of it made sense to me. This 11 min video just opened up thousands of the best songs for me to learn. Thanks so much.
