  • Today we have a special helper back at the farm- Olivia! Olivia is on break from college to become a vet tech and she has been working with the horses. Today Olivia is harnessing up the horses, then we are doing some training with Baron, our Suffolk Punch stallion. We are trying something new today, so be sure to watch until the end!
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horses farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Hay is dried grass and bulk feed, actually sticks better than green grass. They need a lot of it, both horses and cattle.

Baron is pretty close to Lady's height now, plus she has her snow shoes on making her a little taller. Of course Lady is bigger in her rump as her pregnancy tends to cause extra weight there in addition to her belly. She and Baron did pretty good on their first time out together! Lady just trying to be Speedy Gonzalez to show off for Baron😘 Tell Andy we appreciate his help there at the end! And also we appreciate Olivia helping out during her Christmas break! She'll be a great vet tech! P.S. I like longer videos! I always watch them 2 or 3 times anyway in order to get more time watching the horses! I love all your horses.

We had saddle horses, I always pushed out trotting and cantering, insisted they walked every step of the way home, training youngster ponies always with children in mind. Snowy River ponies in Australia. An old mountain man told me to do that, they all became big bold walkers, and I'd top the local auction every year with whatever I had chosen to work for a year. I could only do real justice to one at a time. The rest were sold handled as 2 yo.

Feeding Cows with a well-trained Team is a joy and a pleasure beyond masur. The Okes Brothers Ranch from Gunnison Colorado brought down 1300 Head and scattered thin on Bull Masa West of Cedaredge Colorado. I helped feed that 1300 head scattered in different pastures. We made a tool for cutting baling strings, it worked rely well. We took a 1,1/2" x 5/16" inch piece of flat strap Steel, drilled 2 Holes in one end and Riveted a Sickel Section to that end. Drilled a 3Rd Hole on the poised end, sawed a 5/16" x 2" inch Ring in half and mounted the ring to the other end and welded it back to gather so it wouldn't fall off. Made it a little harder to louse! Pocket knives settle to some spot and stop to be found sometimes. All we had to do was drag it Sickel Section across the bales we were feeding, it cut the strings really well, we were able to pull the strings off quickly as needed. We had a Trail full of Cows and Calves, at times we had to weave in, out and around them.

Really nice video. I enjoy the videos, short and long - would like to see more long ones. Watching anything showing you working with the horses is time well spent.

Loved every part of this video! So much to take in...the beauty of the scenery, and your common sense with training your horses is so fun to watch! Thanks again for taking the time to share!

Hi Olivia, in the old day's i learn to brush the horse tail with my fingers. Doing it only with your fingers will keep the tail full with long hairs. Good Lucky with your studie👍. Greetings from the Netherlands
