100% agree with your comments. It is a nice looking car, one that I am considering as a purchase, and I could look past the short comings on the interior if the engine and drivetrain were competitive with other cars in it's class, i.e. BMW, but it's not, and very under powered, therefore I'll have to pass it up for now.
Thanks, Matt & Beth for giving us yet another honest review. I thought that you gave us a balanced perspective, both positive and negative. It also goes to show how much Lexus is coasting on its reliability reputation. Nothing about this car is class-leading, and much isn't even class-competitive. They are lucky that they have so many fans. Otherwise, they would be challenged to sell such old vehicles.
Thanks Beth and Matt for another good review. I agree with Beth it would be nice for a small area for a phone. And I agree with Matt that power outlets for the back seat passengers would be really nice.
Honestly the interior and engine needs an update after all these years... touchscreen was a good addition but they need to do more. And you're right adding more of that wood trim instead of that fingerprint magnet piano black would've been nice... who's idea was it to put piano black around touch sensitive climate control systems lmao
They will. They simply made this one to stretch their presence on the market until 2024, then the IS300 will take over. EDIT : Don't know if the RC successor will be the first one to come out on the new plattform, or if the IS will have a synchro launch.
Sharp ride! I really like the exterior of the IS. I was looking at the 2018/19 model, along with the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Volkswagen Arteon. Ultimately went with the Giulia. Doesn't have the tech of IS, but O'boy what a blast to drive!
Some people value reliability. Thus the higher price tag. Some people value gadgets and tech (which looks old after a few yrs anyways). Although I agree i wish there was more storage space for my 60k I'd much rather put that into a car that I know will get me to work and back. A car I plan on having for 10 yrs and then passing down to my daughter to drive for her high-school and college years. Lexus and their fans value longevity which is almost romantic that you can own a car for 20+ yrs and have to put nothing but oil changes into it. Tech will come and go. Today's German cars will look outdated in a few years (if they can even make it that long). The Germans view cars as disposable temporary things. That's why there's the saying..." lease a German car, buy a lexus"
My daughter has my mother's 1996 Camry. I have my father's 2000 Avalon. Hubby bought a 2004 Lexus for his daily driver. You can't beat the value and reliability.
Some people only drive their car for 5 -8 year so lexus isn’t the brand also lexus change every 12 year that why they value won’t go down. One thing more people do is own 2 car one is cheap use old lexus or Toyota(daily)And another new the all in one family and fun (sport) car Euro car
One thing that Lexus interior lacks is design and the fact that it doesn't light up nice in the dark like its competitors such as BMW, Mercedes and Audi
I was expecting a 47kish tag. 57k for this is outrageous. I just built a 2021 S4 Black Optics with similar options and it came out to 58k. You get about 30% more car with the Audi IMO.
The idea about a longer wheelbase, is NOT what is needed in this car. Understand the buyers of this car want a "compact sport sedan". Not a family sport sedan. That would be the ES350 F Sport.
Hey Matt, I could've sworn you've said yourself in previous years that you weren't an audiophile. But you know a lot about what you're talking about these days. Are you an audiophile now or just a research machine? Great job, you two.
By his comment regarding the system being 1800W and having 17 speakers now. He is not an Audiophile. More power and speakers doesn't mean better like the next Iphone.
2:20 I have a 2015 Mercedes c class and one of the things I'm dreading about getting a new car in the future is that the cruise control isn't going to be a stalk. I don't understand why I have to push 18 buttons to turn the cruise on in other cars. Flip the stalk up and its on.
I think an LCD for the HVAC would have fit there easily, only cost a moderate amount of money, and really increased the wow factor. The 6 speed is the only glaring disgrace though. I'm down for the non-turbo concept but man...
Great review as always. One random thing I noticed is that this Lexus IS doesn’t have automatic folding mirrors. For a car in this segment to not have this is just odd.
@@BobThe9534 That's silly. Why even have power mirrors then? This isn't cutting edge technology. German cars have had them for at least 15 years. If you don't find them useful, that's fine. It seems to me every time I see Lexus missing features, reliability is the reason. Frankly, this comes off as an excuse. A poor one.
Damn the same interior since 2011!!!!!!!!! 10 years and this is the best interior Lexus comes up with?????? Holyshit! They literally gave the Lexus IS a second refresh..... the current Lexus IS is just another refreshed Lexus IS and isn’t new...... it’s sad really that they couldn’t even be innovative or do anything with them.
Why did this guy add his wife to his reviews, very distracting because she obviously knows nothing about vehicles and sounds like a little kid with those rubbish side comments.really affecting the credibility and quality of his reviews...
Small interior and all black are actually pluses for me.
i love the way it looks!!

Some sell man say only with bug discount lexus make sell but euro car sell it self
The exterior is gorgeous, imo. But they did nothing to improve the interior or the powertrains. Pretty sad for a "new" car.
It's not a new car. The new IS car is coming only around 2024, with the inline 6 and new chassis, that will be introduced on the Mazda RX9 2022.
@@boboutelama5748 Exactly. It's certainly not new.
As always, a well thought out and informative review, from the dynamic due Matt & Beth! Keep up the great work.
I looooove the small interior and the beautiful exterior! I'll choose this over any German car any day!
Wish they did more as well. Still love it though, but they could've went a bit further since the car hasn't changed much over the years.
IS500 is coming as its trademarked
@@rawjor hope so. Would be super dope
When you talked about reliability it’s just went straight over the Germans heads...

I'd like for Beth to give a review on the car that she drives.
She did a few years back. Look Mercedes girlfriend review
We reviewed her last car, and we’re hoping to review her current car before the end of this year.

I'll have to check that out.
I wasn’t that into the pre-refresh IS, but I’m really liking this updated version even if it’s technically “old.”
Jeep Cherokee overland has a "wood" steering wheel that is heated. Not 100% sure its true wood but it looks like it.
Is it open pore wood though with texture? I though FCA just did glossy wood wheels.
@@MattMaranMotoring glossy wood. You are correct

This car could be called "Old faithful". Better exterior looks, but the interior and engine are just so old.
Look like a arrow but run like. Turtle
And we would kill to have this car.
Instead, Emyl Frey axed the IS out of the lineup.
Voice Commands if you don't like touching the slider? DVD audio makes a difference.

Hmmm... reliability or something pretty. What would you rather have?
all it needed was color lighting on the dash
After 7 years it gets it's first refresh. This was supposed to be a whole new generation but they gave it a refresh? Interesting
Is a Toyota thing Xd
I'll wait for the Mazda IS350. Thanks 😊
Put a B58 motor in it and be done. Even Acura is going twin turbo for type S.

Can you do a review of a driving impression? Especially vs the 2020 IS.
Coming tomorrow at 7am ET when the embargo lifts!
Still slow compared to the competitors:/
BMW is faster to the dealer and junkyard as well.
The new IS is definitely the disappointment of the year.
56K? Wow. Does it have a wireless phone charger?
Nope, no room for one either lol.
