Did he wanted to steal the list while Mia was away, and killed Phoenix to leave no witnesses? Was that kind of the situation in the original game or did he thought that it would be too dangerous to leave Maya alive? Edit: oh wait, it's reveal in part 2
It could be that Redd White had learnt about Phoenix through the wiretap, so having Phoenix being killed would make sense, and would cast suspicion on Mia and Maya, sadly, it was Maya who got caught there, and the timing was just off, as Mia had run a bit late to the office
