Deer Season is an engrained part of the fabric of the state of Michigan. It touches every county and begins Nov15th (Gun), Oct 1 (Archery) every year. Here is how I spent mine.
Glad to see someone posting stuff from Michigan. This year was the first year in many that I didn't wake up opening day with dad cause of his age but I did take my wife out opening day and she shot her first buck and it was a dandy 8 pt and she still has a smile on her face so not all was lost this deer season and that was from manistee county. Thanks for sharing this. Be safe out there.
Thank you. You hit very well what I was trying to convey...we do this with our friends and family and it's a special time (Congrats to your lady) Sorry about your not getting to share the opener with your Dad-
Thank u for bringing back awesome memories of buck poles! I hunted 3 lakes Wisconsin in my younger years for several years and seen them everywhere. Down here in Illinois where I reside u don't see them at all.
I've lost Deer too , even deer that had a massive blood trail that stopped , I have also lost a blood trail and had friends that had a dog that we put back on a cold trail and found the deer , cool video Love the Buck Pole Wow
Love opening day! It’s a holiday here in Michigan, even schools closed for the day. I remember the rest of the season my classmates bringing their guns and Bowie knives to stash in their lockers because they were out in the morning and going back when the bell rang! Never once had any trouble come from it either, ever. And the Buck Pole! Every town North of US10 has one. Thanks for the video
Subscribed from Toledo Ohio, spent all my childhood summers in Grayling (Hartwick Pines). Dad was National Guard and we fished Margarethe daily. Met Fred Bear, toured his factory and used to see 100's of Deer....too bad not the same. Still get up there and drive Scenic Trail, brings back greatest memories!!
Wisconsin went to on line registration, it was a better hunting experience for the young hunters to register a deer at a station and talk to other hunters
Loved hunting michigan (lake county baldwin area). Have not made it back in almost 20 years since dad and grandpa got older. but will get back! Thanks for shareing
For me I've always been a firm believer that ya gotta get that cape off right away. So the meat can cool down faster. With back legs open so the chest cavity can cool down as well.. But nevertheless...lots of good eating there.
I lost one it's a sick feeling. I'm in Fife Lake. Hoping to get back out on Monday. I just put short video on Mancelona buck pole. It's fun going to the buck poles. He does do a great job tying them up.. What town is that Buck pole?
Sorry to hear that lost one...It is a sick feeling indeed.. This was at Minors Grove just outside Tawas, MI. They do a real nice job...love those buck poles. I will check out your post.
The buck pole is one of the best parts of the day I feel like, but around me they’re getting harder to find every year. It’s sad, hopefully some stay though.
Nice setup, a professional job is always nice to see. Still looking for my shooter in the Catskills Mtns of upstate NY but it’s only the 4th day of rifle.
@@ausablejones2510 - NY sucks in many ways but we can hunt whitetail from Oct 1st thru Jan 1st from Bow, X-Bow, Rifle then BP… only good thing about NY Archery/BP = 1 buck & 1 either sex Rifle = 1 buck tag plus you can put in for a doe permit for a 4th tag
They need a buck pole in south Chicago every weekend. Shame that all those "trophies" just get thrown into the ambulance to get hauled away without the public getting to see crime being addressed. Much like Michigan bucks, however, so much "hunting" happening that it's getting harder and harder to find a skinny buck making it to maturity.
Interesting. I think the good is fairly straight forward (larger bucks)...but what do you think the bad is? Just curious from someone that actually experiences and has some hands on.
@@ausablejones2510 A decline in hunter numbers due to the break in tradition, also from disappointed hunters unable to fill buck tags. The PGC also screwed up bad by running doe season concurrent with buck season. Now many have the "if its brown, its down" mentality......which leads to dead fork horns/spikes being shot and left to rot.
The antler restriction worked out pretty well in Texas especially where I live when I was a kid it was very rare to even see a deer now 20 years later they are everywhere and we have multiple 160 inch deer and larger shot every year and it's a pretty long season archery the whole month of October and general season from November thru mid January
No matter how good (or lucky) you are, eventually.... Something goes wrong. You lose one. It happens. It's sickening. It's heartbreaking! But... It happens. I always pray that if I miss, I miss clean. We are only human. A true hunter tries very hard to make a clean kill shot.
That scenario just happened to me back before Thanksgiving. I thought I had a clear shot at a rack buck in the late afternoon. It was angling to the southwest of me, with the late afternoon sun glare in my scope. I thought I had a clear, clean shot. Fired 2 shots and never touched the buck. Two clean misses. I tracked it up to make double sure. I was thankful that I had missed clean! The next morning, I had a fat doe and a 3 pointer down before 8:15. Two per day is legal in the county where I hunt.
I'd go without a buck than shoot a little 1. Down here in indiana we have the 1 buck rule cant shoot spikes or 4 points. They gotta have at least 3 on 1 side an inch or longer. Now we have some monsters down here.
They have similar restriction in the NWLP and a few counties here in MI as well. I will follow them if they enact all over and I'm sure it will create a bigger buck selection overall. Although, there is a saying up here I like...you can't eat antlers :)
That buck that you were talking about that you hope that comes in he's not a shooter buck and he's just a year and a half you know he's a small deer he should be allowed to grow you should be more focused on harvesting buck was horns it come outside of their ears, PS I live in lower Michigan
Perhaps, you are right but I would be interested to know what others consider to be reasonable Shooter. I spent I lot of time in Lenawee County in Southern Mi in my youth and just like in Ohio/ILL bucks run a bit larger on average down there...not to mention not everyone gets endless traffic to choose from (I would prefer all 4 years olds as well). Good luck with your hunt this year-
@@ausablejones2510 when you are hunting and see a buck. Any buck that is legal and fairly hunted is a good buck. Diff people see trophy horns different. Hunt your way and be happy for the guy that hunts his way. We need to stick together.ps great video

A spike is a nice Michigan buck? That’s a 1.5 year old deer.
That one anterless deer is a button buck. I can see the bumps in his head.
Good Eye...your are correct Sir.
The buck pole looks like Pennsylvania before antler restrictions. Its both good and bad.
