I come back to watch this clip from time to time because it reminds me of my mother who passed away back in 2004. We watched this show throughout the years I was living at home and it’s a very sobering moment when you see the lights dimming on set and Montel walking off. The show ended in 2008 which was also the year I left the military. It’s almost like a full circle moment. Great memories.
I was a HUGE fan of this man as I was growing up. My mom and I would always record the show for us to watch and when I came home every single day, his show would be the thing I’d always watch no matter what. He was the reason I knew what I wanted to do at 3 years of age which was to be a television host. I was such a huge fan that I went home from class early just to watch his grand finale show. He was such a positive influence on so many people including myself. I wonder what he’s been up to since his show ended 11 years ago... 🤔
I saw him before at a Cracker Barrel outside Linthicum. After I left Cracker Barrel, i looked him up. He lives in the same state as i am. I miss you, Montel.
The Montel Williams Show (a.k.a. Montel) is the best long-running talk show of the 1990's and the 2000's. He did 4,325 episodes, and 17 seasons. In the summer of 1991 the Montel Williams Show was launched on nine stations throughout the country. Though the program-produced and taped in Los Angeles by Out of My Way Productions, of which Williams owns 50 percent-was only seen in a few cities in the United States, they were some of the biggest, including New York, Los Angeles, and Dallas. I watched this show during my elementary to high school years from its premiere on September 30, 1991 until its final on May 16, 2008. In its early years, Montel was similar to most tabloid talk shows especially Sally Jessy Raphael, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Phil Donahue Show, The Maury Povich Show (Maury) and The Jerry Springer Show. Starting in the same year as Maury Povich and Jerry Springer's talk shows, Montel Williams aimed for the same audience, although using far less explict tactics to draw in viewers. While trying to remain racy, yet dignified, the show failed by not being as extreme as Springer, but also by not being as serious or relevant as Oprah Winfrey. For years I thought Montel Williams and Louis Gossett Jr were the same person, but they were look-bros. A rerun package offered by Montel's distributor, CBS Television Distribution, was sold into syndication for the 2008-2009 season, and reruns also aired on Black Entertainment Television (BET). I can't believe this show is gong for 17 years.
@@damienchance2622 And also Sally Jessy Raphael, Geraldo Rivera, the late Rush Limbaugh, Rosie O'Donnell, Queen Latifah, Steve Wilkos, and Wendy Williams's talk shows.
You are a amazing person,so sad to see you go!I'd love to talk to you and Sylvia Browne even if it is 1 hour or one day just so I can move forward in my life and my son's life
Someone asked why it was cancelled. Montel was cancelled due to declining ratings and a lack of stations willing to pick him up for another season. It's sobering to see him talking to an empty audience. His MS may have been a factor, but I doubt it was the whole reason for him to end his show. He could have ended it in 2000, after his diagnosis, but he didn't.
I used to watch this with my mom back when I was in Kindergarten. Really sad to see how good shows are always cancelled.
Montel I just wanna say thank you for 17 years
I like you but it's time to go back to Maryland
