    Great job with this sew along. I’ve learned a lot. I love seeing how you’ve used your sloper. There is so much out there about creating a sloper but almost nothing about using it. I love how real you are and that we are hearing your whole thought process. I like that you haven’t made all decisions off screen. You’ve edited it to the perfect amount of stream of consciousness.

    Thank the Lord, I found your channel! I have never been successful fitting patterns to my body since that nice “hysterical” surgery in my 40s. My shape is similar to yours except my arms are much bigger around the back and probably the behind is a bit bigger. I have the bigger stomach now, darn it. I used to be a size 12-14 and only had to add 1/4 inch all the way around to the hip! I love to see my own clothes, but not so much now. With your help, maybe I can once more.

      Hey, Della! Welcome to my Curvy Tribe! Girl, you just get back on that sewing horse- don't give up! I can honestly say that sewing for this body is much more gratifying versus sewing for my tiny little figure of a few years ago! I seriously am three different sizes with regular patterns. But I'm not frustrated anymore, now that I've learned to make great slopers! Just keep watching and believe in yourself- and more importantly- LUV yourself the way you are!

But I have other sew alongs! And I have recently filmed several new videos and am editing them as we chat! I took a looong time off when I started working more, then had a few surgeries. • @thecurvysewist
      @thecurvysewist  Před rokem +1

      Well, hi, LuAnn! Welcome to my curvy tribe! I am using a rotary cutter- sew much easier than scissors! Mine is ergonomic and left handed. I suggest you start with the smaller size. And buy your blades at the hardware store, not a fabric or crafts store. They are generally $1 or $2 for two blades at the hardware store (look in the carpet cutting areas), versus $10 or $12 at the sewing store!
      I do not make videos very often these days because my day job seriously interferes with my sewing life! Lol! But I am in Mexico right now wearing several outfits I made for the trip, and I plan on making a video of them!

      Hi, Live, Love! I'm using a Martelli Ergonomic cutter with a 60mm blade. Mine is a left handed one, you can also buy right handed. I got mine on Amazon. So sorry I'm just seeing your comment from so long ago! Hope you find my answer and check out my new videos!

    Hi Robin! Firstly, I absolutely love the dress you're wearing. The fabric looks fun and free flowing. Now comes the questions. I am using Simplicity pattern # S8835 (C) and put an extra 2 inches on to the skirt part of the dress. Will I need to put that same 2 inches on the front/back parts of the bodice? Also, maybe you could name your mannequin Curvy Carry. :-) Tfs!

      Hi, Billie! I can't believe I missed your comment from a year ago! I am beyond sorry!
      I make my sloper pieces thru trial and error. It's a struggle, but once you have it, you seriously will be so happy, and never have to struggle thru pattern fittings again! Hope we can talk again; check out my new videos!

    I noticed your sleeve sloper has a much smaller sleeve head than the pattern piece included with Simplicity 8910. Do you have trouble getting sleeve to fit when using the sleeve pattern provided in patterns?
    I have alot of trouble being able to lift my arms up when the sleeve pattern has a steep sleeve head. Hence I use a sleeve pattern from a 1990s pattern and adapt this sleeve pattern on garments I make.

      Flower- I cannot believe I missed your comment from so long ago! I am so sorry! Well, I'm like you, I use a sleeve sloper I figured out quite a while back. A steep sleeve head isn't as good as a low but wide sleeve head for us curvier girls.

      @@thecurvysewist I am pear shaped and I am B cup for breast. From what I see from other sewists online that the shallower and wider sleeve head may work better. As I can see they sometimes have the same fitting problem I have with the steep sleeve head.

    What happens if the original sleeve was supposed to be poofy (gathered) and that is why it is so large? Do you make changes to your pattern piece to make up for the difference?
    The biggest fitting challenge I have had to deal with most of my life is that at the "booty rack" my pants/skirt (bottoms) is supposed to curve in but most manufactured bottoms do not curve in and I end up having my bottoms bowing down showing off my underwear or they pop out and do not fit to my body. Trying to put a belt on just makes it look worse. What fix should I try for that? Do I make the middle seam higher? If so how do I change the top hem to match?

    • @thecurvysewist
      @thecurvysewist  Před 2 lety

      Hi Tohru! Welcome to my Curvy Tribe! I've tried twice to answer your questions, but each time, the answers are too involved to finish or to do your great questions justice!
      I personally do not wear puffy sleeves because of my weight and short stature- I do not want to emphasize my shoulders.
      Pants- oh, girl! That is SUCH a common problem for us curvy girls! Yes, you need to extend the top of your center pant line, as well as take a pretty sharp curve in on the sides- the bottom of the waist band is wider than the top of the waistband.
      Of course, without a visual it's hard to explain or for you to imagine what I'm talking about. I'll have to address both of these questions in an upcoming video! Stay tuned!
