Just OMG. I have been watching so many videos on painting (anything and everything) and stumbled across this. You make me want to go and paint my fabric now with NO FEAR! Thank you so much. It's not rocket science. It's simple, and it's beautiful.
OHHH.... I am so excited to run across this video. I have two chairs similar to yours. For the life of me, I cannot get them clean. They are white with floral. This would be perfect.. PLUS the swivel OMG, perfection!!!!
I have a light beige fabric upholstered chair that is covered in stains. It has not held up well but the fabric is smooth and in tact and so is the structure. I was going to get rid of it and looking at $500 or so for a decent fabric upholstered chair and 1k for a good leather chair. I think I'm going to do this. Thanks so much for the well done video.
Love this chair! Nice job! It's Beautiful!! I really appreciate you showing how it looks with different fabrics too! Thank you for sharing this video!😊💕
I'm stunned that this doesn't rub off on clothes (especially a white outfit), but I believe you. Amazing! Would never have thought to do this, but I will now! Thanks!
Before applying the wax you can applying a gel wood stain and rub it of leaving some areas darker and after it dries apply the wax and its just like aged leather
I am doing a couch right now. It is an old couch with the beautiful carved wood. It has been recovered so in very good shape however it’s like a corduroy material. I know it’s going to be a bit stiff however it looks awesome! Great video, thanks .
Looks great, I just finished leather-izing a pair of dining chair seats, I love this option to change a look, it always works for me, good job and what a cute chair...!
I just watched your video and absolutely loved it!!! Exactly what I wanted to know! Btw…, loved the nosy tuxedo!!! I have 3, & they’d be doing the same thing!!!
That turned out absolutely beautiful! You've inspired me to do my entire faux leather sectional which has peeled down to the fabric. I cant wait to throw the couch covers away. Has the wear of the chair held up so far?
It took me a whole day to find this... Google doesn't want me to do it or I'm just out to lunch finding the right words. I'm contemplating doing this for old truck seats but worried about temps in the vehicle (summer heat/winter freeze).
Beautiful job. I just painted my stained ugly microfiber, easy chair. Got three coats of flat latex paint, mixed with fabric softener on it. Very flexible no cracking, but a very dull finish and not wipeable. Everyone says don’t use the wax because it causes the paint to crack. Help!
I have watched a zillion videos on painting fabric with chalk paint and also latex paint with fabric softener added. Which is best to simulate faux leather? If anyone has one preference over another, please reply. Thank you.
I have a new, beige loveseat that I’ve been wanting to paint. Shopping online during the pandemmy - I wanted cream but ended up with beige. 😐 Did you pre wet the fabric or just dip as you painted? Given the leather like finish, do you think white or cream would work? Or should I go dark, like a smokey charcoal?
I pre wet the fabric and dipped as I went, but I think one or the other will work! If it were me, I would go with charcoal just because darker colors tend to hide any mistakes! But you could also try a two tone look, I’m working on a video for that right now!
Floor Rejects Thanks for your response!! I ended up going with a smoky black. I just finished the second coat today. It’s feeling pretty rough right now. The “original” fabric is canvas. Is it necessary to sand in between coats, or before waxing? Or will the wax kind of soften that by making it feel leathery? I used Annie Sloan chalk paint, and picked up a clear Annie Sloan wax to finish. I’m going to do a third coat before waxing. Just wondering if I need to sand?
@@OhSoMeka I sand in between layers just to keep everything smooth. If the fabric you start with is rough/textured, it’s still going to carry some of the texture over to the painted fabric but sanding does help to smooth things out. The wax should also add some softness and slipperiness to the fabric!
Here's a thought for you. I also have a fake leather chair that is peeling really badly. Do you have any fixes or ideas on that? Sanding and then painting?
I would say that if it’s peeling too badly there may not be much you could do by way of painting it. If all the leather is still there you could try an upholstery repair kit (they usually make them for car seats). Sanding might work if you got the edges of the damaged leather reaaaaaaally smooth but I haven’t tried any super damaged fabrics
Do u still have that faux leather chair? There is a video on yt by Tanglewood Sue and she shows how to do the repair and believe it or not she used toilet paper and then glue for the huge tears.
Is the texture of the fabric nice after painting? I’m afraid is going to make the fabric hard. Also what’s the color you used? I like the caramel color what’s the brand and name of the color please

@@cathyleejohnson they say mix with fabric softener the latex/chalk paint half-half and paint with this mix. You can find other videos about this technique.
@cathy johnson i just tried it today. It works, but i have to buy a scent free softener because very strong in this mix.
@@SillyHuckleberry thanks, I was curious about that happening. Does it smell bad though?

Fabric softener is key. I also waxed it after it dried. Looks just like leather and is very soft.

Oil based paint will eat the fabric. Stick to latex or chalk paint which are water based paints. Beautiful result

Do it again with glossy paint?
I’ve heard you should use fabric softeners in your mixture, it will help it be more pliable and not crack.
Have you painted a leather couch? I loveeeee this one
Ill be honest, I haven't! I don't know that it would work on leather, but then again I didn't know it would work on fabric!
No oil base! You would never get the smell out. Plus the texture of the oil base isn't right for this process. You did a really great job.

Yes please answer. Looking for this saddle tan color
My chairs look if they just spray paint it the stuf pulled off can paint it when i pull all that stuff off❤

I'm considering this for a folding canvas chair. I noticed 2 🐈 s wandering into the shot. Is this method claw scratch resistant?
Mine aren’t super claw-happy but from what I have observed the paint does serve as a pretty good barrier

could I possibly paint the back of a leather sofa? it will not have any wear and tear. can you suggest that saddle color ( pottery barn? LOL)
I honestly have no idea if the leather would take to the paint! It might work but I worry that it might not bond properly
