Those nails are ruthless, I've never seen either of you guys so frustrated 😅 You can yell at them all you want but between that and the door, objects really won the day 🔨
With my backwoods friends we play a similar game called Hammerschlagen where you have to flip the hammer and catch it again and then drive the nail into a tree stump as quickly as possible (in only one hit) but you can't adjust your grip after catching the hammer and you can't take your time to be accurate. It's ridiculously difficult to drive a nail in in such a haphazardly manner, especially while drunk, let alone sink it in in one shot. And you go around the circle taking turns (it's a multiplayer game) until you sink your nail in all the way. Or you can play the other way and have the objective be to hit other people's nails in.
Oh and when you inevitably bend or angle your nail you gotta spend endless turns trying to even it back out or smashing it into the tree stump lengthwise or bended like a pretzel until the whole thing is smoothly beneath the surface of the wood.
You gotta play it where you hit the other nails, and you want yours to be the last nail standing! It creates a much more fun group dynamic. Whoever you hit, you know they're probably going after you on their next turn! It's like politics... Do you go for the soft target? do you challenge the king? or do you shut up the trash talker?

I remember being given a hammer, some nails, and a piece of wood as a kid and just practicing driving nails for fun. We did weird shit to pass the time before the internet. It’s a real skill to develop hammer-eye coordination.
Gotta have that grip too :-) But being relaxed and confident is the key

Used to build decks 20 years ago. When we got a job that they wanted hand nailed decking you would be setting and sinking in two to three strikes with 16 penny nails.
Back when I did roofing we used to compete with tiles. See who could carry the biggest stack up and down to the dumpster.
0:40 The speed in which the nails seem to go in, that is either he is banging them into a small hole that is already there or the noticeable thing is the nail just instantly is gone once he hits it.
It is not physically normal for a nail to go all the way through in one hit, because you have to create a hole with the nail.
And they almost always bend without holding the nail.

Jobsite grip/wrist strength game: hold a sledge hammer down the handle with one hand and lever it from vertical to horizontal and back. Farthest down the grip or most reps wins.

My grandfather was a Master Carpenter for 35 years. It was amazing watching him use 1 swing to set the nail then a second swing to drive the nail all the way in. The secret is to let the hammer do the work not the worker.

I remember my first time ever at a construction Site, my brother in-law who was the foreman ask me to hammer in a D16 nail to a second floor joist as my first task.... being 18 and athletic at the time, i felt cocky.... needless to say it took me 30 minutes to nail it in, drenched in sweat i was ashamed but he just laughed proceeded to teach me the proper technique. That was a good lesson.

When you two get together these vids are goofy as hell! For these kinds of challenges a finish hammer is going to be brutal to use, especially a little 28 ounce... get a 32 ounce framing estwing and you will sink the 16 penny all day long every time! I don't even know if they sell my preferred 34 anymore.
And to answer the 2:42 question: all the crews I have EVER been on had one thing in common... hiding from the foreman and they all um 'burned grass'.

We used to play stump at parties all the time.
Similar to what you're doing, but you have to flip the hammer first, however you catch it is how you have to swing it (no regripping)
The real hammer kings kinda disappeared in the 90s because nailguns and impact drivers became super common. Before that framers would build the majority of a house with hammer and nails and were incredibly fast.
Maybe hammer only framers still exist in Amish community?

The trick to this is drive the nail in the board some part of the way then pull it out, place it back in the top of the plank and hammer it in fully. Its definitely cheating, you can do a third or quarter of the distance of the nail beforehand and that will give it a pilot hole to line it up. Or just use a _really_ big hammer.
You guys could seriously have a channel together or at leat a real series in a channel
When swinging an extension of the arm one tends to push or pull too much because HAND eye coordination. Kinda like when shooting a gun and you push down because the recoil and mess the shot up.

Working construction sites as an electrician, no. No one from any trade that I saw, ever does games related to work activities.
We go on break. It is fun, if you like your type of work, like I like electrical. But not to the point we come up with challenges for the work we do at least 40 hours a week.
We do other stuff, like I would do martial art practices, with another coworker I found knew and was interested as well.
Or we chill out.

Find a higher bar! You will double those sets of 8-9 with much more power on the way up. When im able to straighten and stretch my core for pulls i have a much better mind muscle connection with the lats and abdomen.also make sure to retract that scapula fully before and during the lift, focusing on making a shelf out of your back for the shoulders which protects the shoulder and forces more back engagement with the core supporting the back. If you avoid kipping “body english” then your back will grow very fast, helping with your other lifts as well
