This is a masterpiece. This isn't pop music. One of the best songs ever written. Criminally underrated.
So true
Not underrated sorrumy. Dm is one of the most famous band in the world. Never let me down again is ultra famous.
It's a terrible moment in every depeche mode fan's life , when we are trying to think of a favourite song from them..
My favourite song changes so often I’m currently on black celebration live version
fr i’m tied between never let me down again, enjoy the silence, people are people, and blasphemous rumors
Wrong …
I know this song is about drugs, but I always found the lyrics to have an extra sad undertone when you think of them being about an actual friend. It starts with an optimistic statement about how they'll never let you down (again), but it ends with almost desperate direct pleas of "never let me down...". As if the narrator is extremely vulnerable and dependent on some one who repeatedly lets them down.
The friend can also be yourself. If you think of yourself as a friend that lets you down. In a way the addiction is exactly in the lyrics: a drive deep inside, but not quite yourself and you can hope you can choose better for yourself but the drive can win and take you places where you're let down by yourself when the fog starts to clear, and you realise its taken you to a bad place again. But you can never really break up with yourself and the dark places within yourself completely so you just have to hope your best friend wont let you down again, and hopefully at some point learn to lean on your other best friends in time when you can feel it take over.
This song is a legendary DM song they always play live, especially near the end when Dave gets the whole crowd to do the wave. you really feel the power of that song on there 101 tour at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena California when 80,000 fans are going wild
was just thinking the same, a must watch and experience
Agree, 101 is amazing! 🤩
J'adore ce moment des concerts quand tu te retournes et que toute cette foule 🥰
It is legendary for DM fans ONLY ! This song never been in Top 10, the best ranking was the 22nd place in the U.K. ! In other countries never been in Top 10.
At Pasadena have been a little bit more than 60. 000 fans, not 72.000 or 80.000 ! There is an official picture with the stadium and below is exactly the number of fans.
So many layers! The live performances with the people in the crowd waving hands in unison are just as epic.
The multiple layers was thanks to their exmember Alan Wilder. Guy is a genius
and being in that crowd is the best ever! :)
I love this group so much. Policy of Truth, is another amazing tune.
Thanks for a great reaction.
This was the first Depeche Mode song I heard. I fell in love and have been a fan ever since.
You should see any live version of this song from their concert. Just for this one is good to stay somewhere high up under the roof to see whole the audience! I love it!
My top 3 are Policy of Truth (sonicly best stereoeffects), Strange Love and In Your Room. But I love many. For exaple Blue Dress.
2009 in Barcelona is epic
Policy of truth made me a massive fan since the 80s one of the MOST influential bands of the period.
Depeche modes
Black celebration
Fly on the windshield
Home
New dress
Striped
Question of lust
Here is the house
Alan Wilder is a great composer. Depeche Mode changed drastically after he left :{
So true
LOVE this song! It's about drugs you know! Flying high etc
I've loved Depeche Mode since I was a teenager in the 80s! The music is from the genius that is Alan Wilder. When he came on board their whole sound evolved to what you hear in that song and many others. Even today, DM is great but not the same since Alan left.
Depeche Mode have a unique Instrumental they ever made that's why I like them, etc. I can't describe detail but I know that band from radio x in GTA San Andreas
Hope that more DM fans check out Alan Wilder's efforts under his own name and the Recoil moniker. Start out with the really addictive "A Strange Hour", then find the phenomenal "Faith Healer" - even better than Alex Harvey's original and countless other covers!
@@Reisuke67 I agree, I love his Recoil music. I haven't heard much of it but really enjoy what I've heard. Alan is an amazing musician.
@@Sonnie0325 It's a shame that Wilder seems to avoid or disapprove of Spotify, so it's hard to find Recoil material. I bought two albums back then on Microsoft Music, but lost the data when it ran out of service, so I'll have to dig up and restore my backup data CD some day soon...
I think you have to start reacting their live concerts. I've seen their shows more than 35 times since 1993 and i never been dissapointed :)
Every Single Song on the Album Music for the Masses is epic. Great listen from beginning to end! Cheers!!!
One of my fav bands, “Stripped” and “Policy of Truth” are my fav songs.
Hi, my top 10 is... 1 Barrel Of A Gun 2 The Things You Said (album track) 3 Freelove 4 A Question Of Lust 5 Insight (album track) 6 Shake The Disease 7 Useless 8 Sacred (album track) 9 Prescious 10 Waiting For The Night. There are a lot of other songs that can go on the list for instance Wrong, A Question Of Time Home all of them singles, their albums' chart performance were also consistently top 10 and top 5 in South Africa. Their biggest single was Strangelove which peaked at no. 2 and were 15th best selling single of 1987
I think that Strange Love is the single track that best embodies them
Yes no one like them! Loved your commentary ...Gore is a brilliant lyricist and the Wilder amplified creating that grand scale sound Stripped is my favorite DM song followed by Never Let Me Down and Policy of Truth
Glad you like these Essex boys. Seen them so many times in concert in the uk
In the top 3 of my favourite depeche songs ... its that good. When you suffer with depression this is what life feels like , massive highs massive lows . Never a dry eye when hear it though so much related to lyrics matches my life 😢
Loved the thoughts you shared about the world passing by after listening to the lyrics. Thanks for doing Depeche Mode, keep doing them please! I also love that you caught how they build on during the song, in my opinion they are one of the best at building up, so many of their songs are like this.
I love your reviews. You analysis is always so in-depth and very impressive given it’s your first time listening. These songs are the song track of my life. Has been around me for 30 plus years and I really enjoy the first time listener perspective. I love early Depeche Mode and how they gave the cold synthesizer a heart with Dave’s lush Baritone. My tope there - Here is the House, But Not Tonight and Enjoy the Silence! Would love to get your take on them.
Loved your analysis and love depeche mode
Walking in my shoes by DM
Great reaction video and this song is epic win!
Greeting from Puerto Rico!
Brilliant tune. Along with stripped, i feel you.
Great analysis ! The instrumental part is like a culmination of a deep desperation and ultimate high on the feeling, gives me chills even after all these years
Hi there, just discovered your channel this morning and really enjoying your reactions to my all-time favourite band DM. There are so many eras and songs to explore but you could go with Policy of Truth, World in my Eyes or Stripped or Walking in My Shoes for example @AntonReacts. Whatever you choose, I doubt you'll be left cold.
Not only musical masterpiece but also a visual artwork by Anton Corbijn. Dozens of genial, short moment like sun reflection on the windshield or waving grass at 4:05 - just like people waving their hands to this song on the concerts, perfect light, contralight, unusual cutting of frames
You have to watch the live version of this. I have seen them live a few times, amazing
Came across this reaction vid by chance, scouring for DM content in response to Fletch passing yesterday. And I'm glad I did find Anton's reaction. Seeing somebody smile reflexively to a DM classic is unbelievably cathartic - I was watching Anton's face as the track rolls along and saying "yup, you get it now".
Having said that, I'm automatically inclined to suggest Anton watch the 1993 Devotional tour version at his earliest opportunity.
I've been a Depeche Mode fan since 1984, when my big bro borrowed a record of theirs from a neighbor and played "Everything Counts" and "People Are People" for me. I've seen them live twice, in 1993 in San Diego, and in 2006, at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. Seeing them live is comparable to a church service, in the sense that all of these awkward, quiet kids who don't know each other bond and vibe together while singing every single word together, often with their eyes closed. I hope to see the band again sometime, but my devotion to this band won't wane anytime soon. Picking a top three from DM is impossible, but three of my absolute favorites are "People Are People, " Personal Jesus", and " Walking In My Shoes".
I first heard this song when it came out on Sire’s (the record label) Winter Sampler CD back in 1987. There was some great music on that cd. I seem to remember The Replacements “Can’t Hardly Wait” and Echo And The Bunnymen’s “Lips Like Sugar” were on there as well. I miss the 80’s!
My 3 Depeche mode faves
1. Black Celebration
2. Shake The Disease.
3. John the Relevator
I've been a fan since I was 12 greatest band of all time!!! I've seen them live two times they're phenomenal! good content bro keep it up
good speech at the end of the video, I agree 100 %
Damn, they're honestly my favourite.! 😫❤️Literally every song of theirs is perfect, however, Strangelove '88 is my favourite song and many many more. But y'all should also check some of their "not mainstream" music. Such as Macro, More than a party, New Dress etc.
And tbh, you can't ever not be in the mood to listen to DM. 😂👌🏼❤️
My thoughts is that were taught by society that happiness looks exactly like that: being successful, adored, having money, fame and sex appeal. But happiness doesn't come from external factors. So often when artists get to that point in their careers it can be their darkest because they have to learn the sad truth that no amount of success will make a miserable person happy or make you feel like you deserve success if you have a deep rooted belief of not being "good enough" which is ironically often the drive that makes people work hard and gain success. Happiness is really being able to be present and its a skill that can take a lot to learn if your thoughts tend to focus heavily in past or future. Also when your mind occupies time thats gone or haven't yet come you miss the now and then the world really does pass you by because the present moment is all we have.
Legendary revolutionary and immensely underrated band!
Top songs are Walking In my Shoes, In Your Room,Barrel Of A Gun and Stripped
You nailed it about creation
you gotta watch this live version from their One Night in Paris concert
I have to admit I never heard this song but it a great jam
When they played this at the last scene during the first episode of HBOs adaptation of The Last of Us I got chills!
Top 3 Depeche Mode songs:
1. Enjoy the Silence
2. Never Let Me Down
3. But Not Tonight
One of my favorites from DM
My top favorite songs of theirs are always evolving and changing , they are my favorite band .. lately i listen to their B side Dangerous a lot.. Policy of Truth and maybe Useless if i had to name 3 right now.
Depeche Mode is my favorite band....have seen them in person several times, and the songs in person are as all enveloping and massive in their orchestrations.....for me, an out of body experience. Three top Depeche Mode songs: "Policy of Truth," "Personal Jesus," ""It's No Good"
the song is about heroin - - David - was no stranger - - seen them live three times - DM - INXS - EURYTHMICS - GRACE JONES - and a band that was not commercial - SHRIEKBACK - must check them out - top three - DM - Freelove - I Feel You - and People are People - - rock on - peace - - oh one other band not so commercial - but good - Sisters of Mercy -
The orchestration is sampled parts from "the Orff"
DM For Ever !
Saw them about 12 years ago and again just before the pandemic. Brilliant both times.
If I have to choose just 3 songs of them, I'll take : Nothing - Clean - It's called a heart. It's hard to choose because all of their albums are so differents, with differents feellings. Their sounds are unique
Clean is tops.
These vidéos were an artists project, Anton C. All white and greys and black. There are books and à movie that came out around this album.
I like to see peoples reactions getting to know DM for the first time 😅
what i have always found intrinsically fascinating about this song is that he literally is singing in strictly 2 notes the entire time, almost "in monotone", & it's crafted beautifully within the intricate boundaries of the music itself.. w/help from Martin Gore, the notes are expanded/harmonized.. it's a rarity amongst their entire discography.. the video adds a unique, additional layer: we never are "privy" to his passenger or "best friend".. is it possibly alluding to himself alone...? it's psychologically & musically one of my favorite songs from DM.. thank you for your reaction!
Check When the levee breaks for drums
Andy Fletcher forever with us ... rest in peace bro
Saw them 5 times live. You should watch this song live. Epic show. You will not be disappointed. Best band in the world 🌍
DM forever! 🌹
Depeche Mode has a lot of solid songs in which picking only 3 favourites difficult. I will say that that right now, I'm often listening to that you should check out are:
I am you
In your room
Enjoy the silence
Love dm boom 🤪🔥❤️
My fave songs are Personal Jesus, Everything Counts and Enjoy the Silence
Some of my favourite songs from my DM playlist: "policy of truth; home; useless; never let me down again; it's no good....".
I hope you will pay attention for some of these songs.
Have a nice day.
Depeche Mode my fav band know from radio x in gta sa, and I will say Depeche Mode have a unique instrumental from other band that was I like! 🔥
World in my eyes
Absoilute no. 1 has to be Enjoy the Silence, it's completely incomparable. Then Walking In My Shoes, third Everything Counts. Honourable mentions have to go to Personal Jesus, It's No Good, I Feel You, Police of Truth, this track, Stripped, Strangelove, Barrel of a Gun and World In My Eyes.
Классно, когда кайфуем вместе)))
DEPECHE MODE IS THE BEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD
I’m seeing this in a live-action Iron Giant in an 80s setting
In Europe they are mega star , 70000 people in stadium show regurarely, i saw them twice in 2023 , tour sold out very quickly
Next to golden brown from the stranglers it's the ultimate ode to not taking drugs
DM always great 👍❤👑 my best song too
this song is a love hate affair with drugs
👍👍
Policy of truth, Question of Time, Shake the Disease, Everything Counts, Master and Servant, people are people, Enjoy the silence, world in my eyes, it’s no good…. So many brilliant songs…
Hmmm… top 3 Depeche songs. That’s tough.
Home
Only When I Lose Myself
In Your Room
Great reaction. 1 "tiny" correction; you said "how do you see the world pass by if you are the biggest rock/pop band at that time" - 1. DeMo is "Synth pop" and 2. They were then and still are TODAY the BIGGEST Synth Pop band in the world. They also are out grossing music stars from other genres every time they drop an album.
Dave sing,about
HEROIN
Dave didn't even try heroin until about 3 years after this song came out, per biographies. Plus it was written by Martin Gore, not Dave. Most likely about ecstasy, they were all into that drug around this time according to reports.
@@condemned1982 I agree, ecstasy or even alcohol. They were heavily into drinking back then too.
Top 3 Depeche Mode songs... In your room, Only when I lose myself, Walking in my shoes
It has to be the album version of In Your Room for me, I don't like the single mix.
@@richardgoddard37 absolutely the album version....Do you know hard it was to pick only 3 DM songs?
@@reliantmp3 I'd struggle to pick a top 20....
@@richardgoddard37 what would have been your top three?
@@reliantmp3 Never Let Me Down Again, Useless, and Policy of Truth, but I'll change my mind in 5 minutes😏
Policy of Truth, People Are People, Enjoy the Silence, Personal Jesus. I know its four, but how does one choose? Strange Love too.
Lyrics spoek about addicotns on drugs.. 'Taking a ride with my Best Friend' 'Flying High' 'Never put my feets back on the grounds'" :)
Top 3:
1. Enjoy the silence, 2. Peace, 3. Never let me down again
The world is passing you by when you’re intoxicated.
Please can you do a reaction to max changmin devil
Fever and màniac please
Another theory is that its about a drug high.
impossible to pick a top 3 but if you ignore the traditionally popular ones (Never let me down, Personal Jesus, Enjoy the silence, Just cant get enough, Walking in my Shoes) then how about 'Clean', 'Get the Balance Right' & 'I Feel You'
This song is about drugs. One of their best written songs, for sure (thanks to Martin Gore - their main songwriter, and Alan Wilder - without him the good old Depeche Mode wouldn't sound like that)
Probably the best track in the history of music
When I was in high school in the 80s the Heavy Metal kids would never like anything like this. Or at least admit it to anyone lol 😁
drugs. it's about drugs.
DM #1 - RIP Fletch
Depeche Mode Never let me Down again, Terrible temazo!.
Depeche Mode, one of best bands ever.!!!!!!!!!
His best friend is Heroin.
He was describing his addiction to heroin...
a song about how if you do drugs together you can't leave each other
Please listen to the LYRICS and ponder any more Pandemics in hopes to avoid further horrible hurts for their Greed
Nice reaction. 2020 rock and roll hall of fame inductees. DM forever. Try also Ultravox - Dancing with tears in my eyes, Hymn. Tnx
Watch the video, and keep in mind that David Gahan had a heroin addiction for several years. Then you’ll find the true meaning of the song. Nearly broke up the band. I’ve had experiences with quite a few heroin attic’s, heroin is always their best friend.
Just listen and watch that video again, and it will all make sense. By the way, it’s a great damn song. The only thing better than Depeche Mode is going to a Depeche Mode concert.
