  • I took the opportunity to use a Freedom Warming gift for my friend to make a video explaining little about what to look for when getting into collecting milsurps, to show off the Colt M7 bayonet, and to share a little with the audience about why I like studying military history and military gear.

Thank you for your video. Regarding 5:45, for those who are unaware, the metal cap at the end of a scabbard is known as a "chape".

Military surplus is an attraction to my generation especially. We can remember the surplus stores that had Korean War stuff in them and that was so cool!

As well as bring functional for civilian applications, collecting it is a window into the past. Studying it can lead to understanding history.

I know it was kind of long but I wanted to share with everybody just an idea of why I'm into military history and military surplus and how challenging and fun it can be to set a goal of trying to complete a collection and doing the research so you know what to look for.

I have one of these for my 590a1... (Newer plastic sheath version).. I live out in the swamp in Florida on 26 acres so that bayonet has a very real and active renewed life, it is my 'oh shit' last line of defense when I go into the palmettos to find out what is going bump in the night.. I specifically wanted the M7 not just because it was what I used in the corps but also because it has been phased out despite being a stellar performing bayonet. I adopted one and allowed the little guy to get back in the game. I wish I could give more a home but we do what we can.

That's what they issued me in the Corps as well. I agree that it's still an effective weapon. I have the Army's replacement, the M9 bayonet, but I don't have the newer Marine Corps bayonet yet. You inspired me to make a purchase and I'll be publishing a video about it soon:

I was a little worried that jinx it and the truck wouldn't show up today or somebody would swipe it off your front porch. I still don't have the delivery notification so hopefully all went well.

I believe that is an M-7b, the "b" having the short edge while the M7 is single edged. I love this bayonet and use it as my work knife.

I haunt the sportsman's guide milsurp category which has a wide variety of items beyond guns, knives & ammo. You can find great deals on interesting, practical, & useful items, sourced from militaries all around the world.
