My god, that friench soap is huge! How you supposed to use it? I guess this is a laundry soap, but why then it have olive oil? I mean if you have rubber gloves on your hands...🤔

From what I understand regarding this particular form of French soap is that -- in the past -- they would use the soap for all their needs: washing themselves, their clothes, and household items (like dishes, etc.). The block would typically be kept in the kitchen, and used either by rubbing a wet cloth on it to pick up the lather or by shaving/cutting off pieces for their intended purpose[s]. Because it's made with olive oil rather than an animal-based triglyceride, its composition is more "neutral" and it has little to no scent. This is why it was so versatile. I should also note that this practice of using soap for all purposes, rather than having soap designated solely for the bath and solely as detergent, was not limited to just French society, as the same practices are found in English and Nordic histories.
