I'm sitting here in my big truck at a truckstop in Virginia USA. This video made me so hungry. Later I'm going to "bake" a potato in my slow cooker then top it with baked beans and shredded cheddar cheese. I'm a Brit and have lived in the USA for 20 years. I miss my baked potatoes! Thanks!
Do it also with butter before adding toppings then add beans and then cheese and then tuna mayo with black pepper on top of the cheese it’s the best of all ways and the only way I have it. Also cold salad also makes it taste better still. 😋
@@healingandgrowth-infp4677 The butter is a must for me. Also a bonus is to actually bake them in foil in an oven to crisp the skin (apply a bit of butter to it beforehand for maximum effect)
Glad to see some Americans finally dispelling the myth that all British food is terrible. Bristol has a great street food scene if you are ever travelling that way.
Even my home town of newport in South Wales has a fantastic market with street market. Weds - Sunday it’s always busy, not cheap but freshly cooked. Best pizza outside Italy.
My newsfeeds nowadays seem to be filled with negative stories, and I just wanted to say that your videos are a light in the darkness for me. They're not only lovely to watch while I'm working, but they also provide inspiration for things I could get out and do at the weekend (I'm in the UK). A heartfelt thanks from me, guys! ❤
There is a place in the city of Norwich, Norfolk called the 'Junkyard market' they have a website you could look it up and look at the gallery of the stalls and food. As well as food they also sell cocktails, wines and beer, you have to book a table in advance i think. Also in the centre of the city is Norwich Market.
I'm from Coventry, glad to see it looking more vibrant. You must have noticed how much concrete there is? Please look up pictures of old Coventry and the history of its practical obliteration in WW2 so sad to see what old Coventry was like compared to new.
We visited Coventry two days ago (a group of tourists from the continent), and looked at what was left from your once beautiful church, next to the one built after the war. We were standing there in the pouring rain, crying. Such tragedy...
I am also from Coventry, (born and raised) My Grandmother and my mother as a child, lived through the devastation that was the blitz of WW2 Coventry was raised to the ground, the history that was lost as it was a medieval walled city, some of these streets can still be seen around the back of the ruins of the old cathedral. It is a testament to the people of Coventry that re built the city. I now live on the other side of the World but have fond memories of Coventry and Warwickshire.
I think you can describe the inside of a jacket spud as "steamed". That's what makes it fluffy. The difference is that a proper baked spud will have the crispy skin too.
I follow these lovely americans on they quest around the uk and yet they have never been to wonderful norwich or the broads or North Norfolk mind blowing
So cool to see you in Coventry! I was born there and just seeing you get excited about "The Pork Of The Town" made me smile because that place has been there for years!! I've had a pork and stuffing batch from him and enjoyed the jacket potatoes too! I was shouting at the screen as you were outside Bull Yard which is so close to Noodle bar! I haven't been to Fargo Village in years, I feel like I should go and check it out now! Haha. 😂❤❤
Welcome to Coventry. I saw you got to see the music museum, and hope you had some time to visit some of the local history and pubs. My local pub, The Old Windmill, was established in 1451 and is one of the best pubs in the UK.
Such a delightful couple, glad you are both enjoying your UK experience. I live in Leicester, about 20 miles from Coventry. Might have to visit this place. Enjoy guys, stay safe. Cheers
Great to see some Coventry content! I’m Canadian and living here since 2004. If you ever make it back, there are the old/new cathedrals, the Herbert art gallery and the Coventry Transport Museum. The T Museum has a lot of old bicycles and cars, but also historic motorcycles, including Ted Simon’s round-the-world one (google Jupiter’s Travels).
I've sent you some links for farm shops. As you're over here for a lot longer this time, it'll be interesting to see if you feel any healthier, as the majority of our food and drink are fresh and without a long list of unnecessary ingredients and you walk everywhere. I have friends who work here from time to time who are Americans, and they always feel a lot better after a few weeks or months in the UK and a couple of friends who have diabetes and other health conditions, everything levels out for them, even with a stressful way of life and on the road
In Coventry centre food stalls, you missed the falafel stall, very good. For others to try, search “Bustler Street” in Derby, a great street food / drink market that’s open every weekend during summer. Go on a Fri/Sat evening and music too. I’m local so feel free to PM for details. 👍
One of my favourites is to get the Falafel & Hummus wrap with salad and pickled veg. It's called falafel corner and you can see it right behind you when you're eating the jacket potato.
Loved that you visited my hometown. Right opposite Fargo (you could see in the background) is the BEST batch / breakfast place - Pig In The Middle. Been going there for over 40 years. Shame you didn’t visit Godiva Festival. Cheese n beans on a Jacket Spud is classic British. We don’t call pork n stuffing in “buns”. In Coventry they’re only called “batches” Yes we have a Costco in Cov. It’s very popular and yes we have hotdogs 👍
Thanks for making this video. I used to visit this part of Coventry when I was studying at the uni. They were proposing this as I was set to graduate in 2012.
I'm Coventry born and bred, if you'd have come here about 3 years ago, the city really was quite dreary, I don't know if you went properly into the centre but the new fountains and plants look really good considering it was just a concrete jungle not so long ago. A lot of it still has to be renovated, but it's getting there. Can't believe I've never actually been to FarGo myself in my 21 years of living in the city, maybe I'll have to go sometime but it's slightly out of the way of things I'd normally go to, I'd have to take a trip specifically to go there rather than the other places in town that I could just pop into because I was next door. Can't believe your reaction to the Hertford Street food shacks though, I've walked past them many a time and not once have I been even slightly tempted to buy anything, it all just looks a bit basic and bland. That being said, basic to us brits is something completely new to an American, jacket potatoes with beans and cheese is a staple here. I reckon I was going past the place you ate the kebab meat at about 12:30 the same day, it looked like midday and not evening in your video so I don't think we can have missed each other by that much, that being said I was in the car so probably wouldn't have noticed you anyway. It's always good to share your culture with other people and it becomes even more personal when it's your city, even though I haven't actually eaten at any of the places you did.
pork scratchings and crackling although essentially the same thing, are worlds apart in terms of flavour. fresh cracking is 10000000% better than scratchings.
Oh is that why she didn't have crackling? Because she'd had pork scratchings? I was like just put the crackling in a roll and I'll eat that!!!! Couldn't believe they wouldn't have the crackling, but if you think it's going to be like a scratching I get it.
I've lived all my life in England and haven't experienced as much as you have in your short time here ...my wife is american and also loved it here which is why I enjoy your vlogs so much :D
i love the fellas jacket, me and my friends always stop to talk to people with interesting outfits especially battle-jacket adjacent things i love talking to people about their patches and its great in cov because the culture and personalities of people are so diverse
You've been to Newcastle but walked over the Swing Bridge, missing the Street food available in the stack right under the Tyne Bridge at the Gateshead side. However if your nearby this week you really MUST head for the Ouseburn Festival on for a few days . A Festival of street food, music and drink . The Ouseburn is a tributary of the Tyne & situated at the far east of the Newcastle Quayside where there's a road bridge to your left, see the Tyne Bar & follow the crowd , they have everything, even the City farm at the top end when you're finished with food and drink 😂
Who knew Coventry had these food markets - hubby and I will need to go next time we are in Nuneaton visiting family x thanks so much for sharing (although I am really hungry now)
If you guys think that was cool/interesting, you really need to head to Digbeth in Birmingham for its street art and interesting bars, restaurants, street food venues, also while in Brum head to Hockley Dining Club ( a much larger version of what Fargo and run by the same guys, Digbeth Dining Club ) in the evening… actually lots to do and see in Birmingham, definitely worth a few day’s visit… 👍🏼
Well you've sampled some of the Digbeth dining clubs wares, now you should visit Digbeth which is a district in the centre of Birmingham that is well worth a visit and if you're eating in Birmingham you should also visit the Balti Triangle.
Having said that I think Digbeth ( The district ) gets a bit lively at night and full of youngsters out on the town, the Dining clubs main base is now in The Jewellery Quarter which is on the other side of the city centre. I've not been home to Birmingham for 3 or 4 years so double check as the place is changing so much its hard to keep track.
Baked potatoes are delicious. My favourite topping is definitely chilli with a dollop of guacamole or sour cream - another great topping is stilton cheese - slice it up and let it melt on top (yum).
Hull has some brilliant street food places. And a similar vibe to Coventry. Well worth a visit. Lots of history in Hull as well. The English Civil war began here, we have also just uncovered a walled fort that belonged to Henry VIII and we have lots of attractions to visit as well as some great places to eat
Hiya. I'd go STRAIGHT for those Ho Fun/Ho Fan Noodles. So hard to find them being made anywhere outside of a 'Chinatown' and even then, you've got to look hard and ask. My favourite noodle by miles. Seems I'm going to have to take a trip to Coventry. Stay safe. All the best to you.
If you are Ever in Suffolk Felixstowe not far from me has a similar thing. Called Beach Street. Made of Shipping containers several great food places, small shops and a great craft beer bar. I can easily spend a day there.
8:50 to make it yourself just get a couple of large maris pipers, wash and prick with a fork, rub a little salt on and bake on a rack in the middle of a preheated oven at 180 for an hour and a quarter. Check by sticking a sharp knife straight into the middle of the potato and if the blade is hot then the spud is done. The jacket part refers to the skin which is often crispy and can be scooped out and the inner potato mixed with whatever you want before refilling the jacket.
I'm loving your video and its great to see you enjoying yourselfs. Another great job done. And Carlie bum was wiggling all over the place so I know she is one happy little girl. If you get the chance Chile con carn is good it a baked potato. Well done Jeremy for seeing that it was baked its the only way to cook one proper oven. Also if you can Turkish mix or chicken shawama. Is also very good. Rutland village is very pretty with beautiful cottages so maybe you might like to drive through there to take a look. Its East Midlands ❤

Often a town's street food is better than restaurant dishes, especially for lunch on warm days. This I have found to be true from Lusaka to Leiden and from Singapore to Saskatoon. Your video offered me an entire novelty, though - a tasty breadfruit dish. This is a first for me. We grew a few of the things in our farm in Kenya, and I found them to be as boring as grits!! 😂
Ok so people complaining British food is bland, I still miss British white bread with cheddar. I’m North American and both ingredients are not as good here. Britain does simple stuff well so sometimes it’s just the simple pleasures .

Pie and chips on the way home from the pub used to be my street food 40 years ago 😂
We had a snack van outside our pub that did southern fried chicken in a roll 🤣

The Balti triangle in Birmingham. Tom Cruise goes to a restaurant there for curry when he’s in the vicinity. It made headlines the local papers.
