It is brutal that the Blue Jackets would sacrifice their core at the time to compensate for 1 guy. To say he was great in 20/21 is a bit of a leap leap since he was paid to score and average 0.52/pts per game for the season. Respectable sure but not exactly elite offence during that stretch. I am really curious what research they did at all outside of having a conversation with Laine who would be incentivized to embellish. Or even depending on exactly how it was handled maybe Laine to his benefit wasn't even aware of what was going on. Since they shipped everyone out of town.
