    Actually, I do metal detecting as a hobby and there is a real use for short-range detectors. They're called pinpointers and they help locate the exact location of an item in a pile of dirt you dug out (or help inform you if you failed to pick it up with the first dirt shoveling). Just thought id inform you if you weren't already aware :)

      What are these exactly? Readily-built circuits or components? (refering to short range detector)

    • @SmokeyDope
      @SmokeyDope Před 8 měsíci

      @@josephj5864 They are readily built devices little metal detecting wands you hold in your hand and wave in through the dirt clump to find the metal object inside. Look up 'metal detecting pinpointers'. They also make waterproof ones that vibrate instead of make noise.

    A detector with multiple coils in a grid array , for example 60 coils by 60 coils may be able to show a visual pattern on a screen at the same 60 by 60 resolution, also you could have an inline detector with potentially hundreds of coils in a row, this attached to a wheeled vehicle ,driven in a straight line the data from this could then be recorded and an image could then be shown, it is likely the coils would interact with each other but I wonder if they could be shielded, to stop the interference.

    so how would you output more power at say 17 khz than another coil running at 17khz im trying to understand how you could increase the emf in a specific khz range or would it be fixed for each khz and then the shape of the coil dictates the power over a sustained distance so a larger coil would run 17 khz but would hold more emf for longer than say a smaller coil running at 17khz is there any way to add more power to boost emf ?

    So... using this design you can make the metal detector discriminating, so it can tell the difference between certain metals.
    In order to do that you simply place an adjustable capacitor or a potentiometer in parallel with the coil.
    As potentiometers and varicaps that have wide ranges of values are best.
