My grandpa was my grandpa and he died my grandpa and that will never change. Family sticks around and makes your life better, not the other thing

WOW Whoopi, I tell my husband often, his family received their 40 acres and a mule! They move differently (a large majority of his family members are educated beyond high school, quite a few have advanced degrees, others were entrepreneurs when entrepreneurship wasn't encouraged) and I believe it's because one or more of his ancestors in Tennessee dotted the I's and cross the T's. It was a complicated process, but some of us was able to move those mountains, even with limited education.

I still don’t think her parents are being honest with her. Even then fertility treatments had a cost and according to her book her parents had constant money issues and fought about it often. This wouldn’t surprise me as that generation (same as my own parents) are the masters of dark family secrets.

Α friend of mine found out she was adopted a couple of years ago, we in our mid 30s now, and we've kind of all forgotten about it by now, including her. She was completely shocked, never suspected a thing but also couldn't care less. Her parents never showed any sign, she's always been close with them and life just moved on as if nothing had changed, because it hadn't. She didn't have the slightest curiosity to delve into her biological ancestry. In fact it was almost like an inconvenience that she even had to think about it and eventually just left the whole notion behind.
That's nice for your friend but many adopted children want to know their biological history especially for valuable medical information. Your friend might have a biological history of breast cancer or heart disease and has no clue.
I know someone who didn't look for bio family until his adopted parents passed away, out of respect. Anything can happen.
