- Why JAMAICA doesn't get hit by hurricanes as often as other countries nearby. Some people suggest it's because of Blue Mountains. If it's true, why not all hurricanes get diverted then? What determines the path of a hurricane. Why not stop hurricanes with modern technology? In this episode - the full story of hurricanes.

Watching after Beryl.
Debbie is coming jah ute
I never knew that a video on hurricanes and cyclones would be so engrossing to watch. I definitely learnt a lot. Your diligence is much appreciated.
I said the same thing.
🇯🇲 Cooking can be exciting, it depends on who is doing the chefing ❤.
When I was about 10 in Primary School I had a very strong crush on Miss Jones, a female student teacher in the classroom next door.
There was an open division between her class-room and mine.
Miss Jones knew and encouraged my childish crush with ever-so-often dodgy, smiles and waves in my direction.
Living at least 12 miles ( walking & travelling by bus) from school, no excuses , including pending hurricanes, could alter my attendance so I could see her. 👄
Oo)
"Look for me in the whirlwind", words of Marcus Garvey will explain it all
We are prayer warriors
All that said and done. Jamaica is a blessed country.. There are many praying people here.. and God answers the prayers of His people.🙏
Prayers, GOD have a few faithful people who lives in Jamaica, and HE hears their Cry.
Ive noticed that over the years..Jamaica hardly ever gets the full brunt of hurricanes. Some people say its prayer but i think that it also has a lot to do with Jamaicas geographical location. Its still blessed because God placed Jamaica where it is. Psalms 83;18
Another well researched documentary, Irina. All cohesively sticking together, creating a well informed and thoroughly researched piece of work. What can I say...? Simply put, you stand alone in this field. You are an asset to us as an on-line community; and to Jamaica, the place you've chosen as your home. Absolutely well done.
Well said Patricia. Absolutely well done.
Irena you should patent this and sell it to educational institutions. This is the best explanation of hurricanes I have seen. Jamaica is privileged to have you here. You absolutely are an asset to us. I was completely mesmerized by the way you presented the information. You are a great teacher, girl. Stay safe and God bless.
@@doreenmorgan7000 Indeed, totally agreed. Let us get this channel up to a hundred thousand, by sharing Irina's channel far and wide, for truly, she is an asset to us and to Jamaica.
Thank you so much! 🙏❤️
Sex ass hell
I am here every year since this video was made thank you for this video. hurricane beryl is now here in jamaica
Hurricane Gilbert (1988) and hurricane Charlie (1951) were like two identical hurricanes that followed the same track right across the entire length of Jamaica. Gilbert was a little more powerful, but although Jamaica infrastructure was strengthened since then (1988), it was still far better than in 1951. As a consequence the death toll, damage and misery was a lot greater for Charlie than for Gilbert. Charlie was the hurricane that was talked about for decades. I was born in 1952 so did not directly experience it (all my siblings did), but while I was growing up in the 50’s and 60’s, any mention of a hurricane in Jamaica always referenced Charlie.
Today I love a good storm. I love to sit and watch the heavy rain coming down at an angle. I love to watch the lightning and cheer when I see a good one. I love to hear a loud and long drawn out thunder. Ok, so I'm weird, but I love it. Good info. Excellent delivery. Thanks, keep it up.
True and to note....we haven't got any category 5 hurricane landfall since records began, which is really amazing
I wouldn't call you weird, Ricardo Chong...I too adore watching rain bucket down, and I particularly love to listen to heavy rains on zinc roof, when I'm in Jamaica. Storms, hurricanes, lightening and thunder, however, will have me cowering inside a closet!
@@HummingbirdJa I love the rain and lightning a bit too much. I went outside during Gilbert as a child it was glorious LOL. I waited until my parents were asleep they would have killed me if they knew
@@midnightwatchman1 Lol, you are daring! I hide from it. Truth be told, I am terrified of both and, pray I never experience a hurricane either.
@@HummingbirdJa later as an adult I knew it was the madness of a child but a child would see things that way. looking back we are very lucky. we had recently moved to that housing scheme and thank God for whoever built it they made it hurricane-proof and build some real deep and wide drainage systems. we were near the sea and also had sea walls in place. after the hurricane, we last power yes but not water again the person who built at the place the water reservoir in the mountains so we had gravity feed
This was by far the best documentary on Hurricanes ever! I'm appreciative of the extensive time, effort and dedication expounded to create such high quality research, evident in the outcome of this documentary. 👏 👏 👏
The Most High is in control - Jamaica is blessed - Just Jah works
Today is October 1, 2022 and Hurricane Ian was deflected a week ago. I love my island home Jamaica, but now I appreciate even more how we are protected. Thank you Haiti and Cuba. I really appreciate how you took the time to explain Hurricanes. Thank you
So ya thank Haiti and Cuba for taking hurricane for us u even a hear u self
God not ready yet to destroy Jamaica but Don't think it's not coming
EXCELLENT work Irina- I remember Gilbert- it was my first and one I will never forget and yes island man talks about God's blessings on Jamaica. We have learned since Gilbert as my generation certainly did changes to everything since then. Gilbert was the first hurricane in years, so much so I wanted to experience it as we kept hearing about it and never experienced it. I can tell you after Gilbert, no way do I need another hurricane.
Your work was detailed and spot-on scientifically. Well done and may our beloved island remains fruitful and deter every hurricane that comes our way.
Brilliant lesson, teacher! I learned so much more than I anticipated! Thank you for your esteemed work!
Much love, I do believe that it was an financial issue why lots of most rural houses where built from wood. Jamaica has had high building code from way back before 80’s and Gilbert. Due to being in an earth quake zone they had been building with cement, blocks and steel.Even higher standards than what I’ve seen even in Florida’s houses . As people financial situations improved then the buildings got better for many.
Yep we build houses strong here in Jamaica
@Marlon W, great point
Yep. The house I lived in back in Jamaica was rock solid -just board up di window dem when storm a come an you good :) When I moved to the States it was a surprise how everything is wood frame thrown up in what seemed like "a few days".
@@jackolantern7342 same in Canada, wood frame everywhere, that’s why they’re easy to go up in flames quickly.
Agreed, as I lived in a rather large concrete house during Gilbert. Only a few trees fell but no damages, and light was gone for months due to downed power lines.
Thank you. Given this broad perspective, now i feel lucky to have stood on my veranda in the valleys of St. Mary Jamaica observing the activities of such great force of nature.
Hey Irena good afternoon to you again, it is so nice to see your vlog, I always look forward to see them, your videos are so informative and I have known a great deal about a lot of things through your videos, you are a great teacher and I dont know if you would ever luke to teach in Jamaica, you are so simplistic in break down what you are saying that many of us can understand these things so easy, this is very good to know this much, keep up the good works. Stay bless and keep us informed.
@Ramasses Skaggs, I totally agree with you. I think that she should start a school🙏👍. She's truly a star teacher💫
Very insightful documentary Irina!!!! 👍
Blessed love everyone, but especially our bella Irina for bringing us another amazing video❤💛💚
🇯🇲 Thanks Irina....job well done.
Having grownup in a well constructed house, thanks to my father's friend, a building contractor, I observed & learnt of good & honest workmanship.
The investment in building a well constructed home is also an investment in securing one's life in times of hurricanes, floods, earthquakes or fires.
Over 200,000 people lost their lives mostly due to poor housing construction in the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
Alot of the structures never had enough concrete or steel for reinforcement and so their dwellings became their tombs.
Irene, please do a post on earthquakes & hurricanes effects on Caribbean structures, lives & how they affect the mentality of the building trade.
Jesus tell us not to be afrade just have fate in him and speak to the storm and it will obay what we say in is name.
Thank you for the work and research you do to keep us informed, i learned a lot, this was very informative, i was in Jamaica for hurricane Gilbert in 1988, one of the worst one Jamaica has seen!
This is probably the most informative video I've watched on CZcams. Great presentation, you did a great job.
Another job well done. You are one of our last hope of experiencing impeccable journalism. Thanks for your time.
I EXPERIENCED HURRICANE GILBERT IN 1988, INCREDIBLE POWER! YOUR VIDEOS ARE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR, NO PUT INTENDED! Thank you!
One of my favorite channels that talks about Jamaica! , I watch all your videos from beginning to the end.
I love your accent and your works keep feeding us with information.
This is one of the best documentary I have the opportunity to witness on CZcams, I think our Universities will do justice to our students to employ your expertise because you're an unbelievable a well rounded person . I always look forward to your videos you are truly an Irie woman and Jamaica is very fortunate to have someone like you choose to reside here because you enrich us intellectually. You are any man's dreams .i truly enjoyed your presentation so much that it like being young again sitting in a lecture theater listening to my favorite lecturer
I love your work and i appreciate your presence.
Givethanks for clarity and well informed strengthening.
We love and respect your work.
Long live the globe...
You'd be a great teacher if they'd pay you well. Great article, always refreshing to watch your videos Irina.
Awesome journalist! You see her research and credit lol no plagiarism
Very informative yet again. I learnt something new....the development of the word "hurricane "
Take your time, Irina. You always do excellent work.
I apprciate the depth of your research into these topics so much, many thanks Irina!
Iriena, love your videos. They are very informative. I've been listening to you for more than 2yrs now.
I am a Jamaican, but I live in the US.
Thank you for all the research you do to bring your audience certain information on the topics you choose to discuss about JA.
It is very much appreciated, and I've learned so much 🙏 ☺️.
Great to see you again, thanks for sharing....Jamaica is heartbeat of the world...likle but we Tallawah ....meaning, we are little/small, but we have a great impact.
I am so glad you are part of Jamaica, your research and videos are priceless when it comes to learning about our island. Gilbert was one of the worst periods of my life. Light and Water were a problem, getting ice was like finding gold. We had no power for months, and the water was so dirty we could not drink it from the pipe. I have experienced all other storms since then, but none as terrible as Gilbert. With all said, we are blessed.
Another great class teacher... very informative and well done.
Again, another great lesson on a topic I thought understood but ended up learning a great deal. Keep them coming!
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK .I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL.GOD BLESS YOU ALL🙏///......
Well done iris, another A+++ video. We your subscriber appreciate all your time and the dedication you put in your videos. I do remember hurricane Gilbert 😄😄😄😄. Can really laugh about it now. But out of that terrible moment came one of the biggest songs that pull use through by the singer lovindeer (wild Gilbert ) wonder if people remember that song. Thanks iris. You are appreciate. 👏👏👏👏👏
What is the Hurricane Gilbert song, never heard it?
@@HummingbirdJa wild Gilbert. Listen to it on CZcams. You will understand what I am talking about. Let me know what you think
@@Dee-pj7hh ok, will do
Found the song "Wild Gilbert," it's quite funny 😆
@@HummingbirdJa yes it is. Got a lot of Jamaicans through those difficult times back then.
Thank you IRIE for allowing your intelligence to illuminate matters that will affect our nation in the near future.
Eloquently put. Period...
Tropical Rhythms, I had your exact same reaction. 👍It's fascinating that hurricanes are necessary for our globe's climatic health. I always felt they did a clean-up job. Hurricanes pruned the trees, and the sky seemed fresher with a more beautiful shade of sky-blue.🤔
Well done Irina, and so well researched. Such a detailed presentation. I have learned so much from this video and I'm sure others as well. Keep up the outstanding work you are doing for our country Jamaica. Blessings always 🙏🏽 One Love...
Well done Irena! Thanks for all the hard work and research you have put in. I enjoyed this episode very much and look forward to the others.
Respect for the time put forward for doing this educational video. What I find interesting is that Jamaica hasn't got any category 5 landfalling hurricane since records began, which is amazing
We've been waiting for someone like you. Words cannot explain how important you are to Jamaica. Please keep making these videos. LETS GOOO!!! WOOOO!!!!!
Luv yu bad my lady. Another thoroughly educational and enjoyable presentation. Keep up the great work and thanks
The research that went into this!!!
Awesome! I've heard that Jamaica was a hurricane graveyard but I now know there are multiple factors! Really cool.
Took me four (4) days to finally watch this after it was published, even though I was yearning for it...BUT THE WAIT WAS WELL WORTH IT. Excellent Job as ALWAYS, Irina. As I've said to you privately, and publicly in comments, TAKE AS MUCH TIME AS YOU NEED to publish these Videos. The Quality and Research comes through because of that. Much Love & Respect...Irie...
Very informative, Thanks Irina ,always Informing us Jamaicans ,be safe
I did not expect this to be so well researched. Top tier content!
WoW! once again you have blown us away with your diligence in your research on this topic. I thought how is Irina going to make this interesting and you did. Thank you for all the information you provided, and the amount of work you put in is evident in the completed video. Bravo!
Well done Irie your videos are so interesting and I learnt something new each times. Love you 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻
I like your pronunciation of Haiti. It sounds exotic and not like hate when you say it.
We pronounce it like 80 with an H.
Always learning with Irina! Thanks for sharing your well researched, informative and teachable content. 👏🏼👍🏼
Wow!, Irina you just keep raising the bar on the quality expectation of content on all social media platforms. Job well done, well researched and your delivery of the content is now the gold standard. You are a true asset to Jamaica and the media community.
Irie, enjoyed your video. The first time we visited Jamaica was a few weeks after Gilbert. Didn't care for it at first, but learned to love it and went back 6 months later and have over 35 trips in. 3 weeks last November. Anyway listen/watch the video of this song Wild Gilbert by Lloyd Lovindeer. It was popular at the time and told the whole story. Jerry & LuLu
This is a masterclass! Nuff respeck!
Great work Irena. A good meteorological lesson for the masses.
Irie dropping some knowledge. 👏
Ms. Irena, as always another well educated video for our archives. I for one was wondering where you were but seeing this production has brough me much joy and put my worries to rest :-)
Well done Irina, your research was so knowledgeable and we learnt so much.
My husband was in awe* of the knowledge you dropped on us!
Jamaica Land We Love ❤
What an amazing video! We spoke once when I worked at RJR and you did so much to help and highlight the Jamaican students escaping the Ukraine war. Big up uself!❤
Great production! Thanks!
Wow fantastic teaching as usual Irena. Very clear and detailed explanation of how hurricanes work. I've never had it explained to me this way before and I'm in my 50's. Jamaica is so blessed to have you. Thank you. I'll be hope to link up with you on my next visit if our schedules permit. Stay blessed and keep up the good work👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🤗🇯🇲🇬🇧
@JAMAICA WITH IRIE I've been forecasting Hurricanes in my CZcams channel for a couple of years now. I never knew about this! Very Informative video! Certainly learnt a lot! Loved 23:07 when you said. Boeing 747 approaching my face a full speed!😅
An excellent info packed video! Thank you Irina!!!!
Another excellent video so educational. I learned so much thanks Irena. Keep them coming you are an asset to Jamaica.
I loved this! You basically did a full blown Earth system science class on atmospheric circulation, and did it in the most engaging way, with relevance and lots of great visuals. Thanks for your time and effort on this topic. So well done!
Everytime I watch this channel I'm so in awe
thank you very well researched and accurate. I would like to add hurricanes and tropical cyclones are also important sources water for many islands around the world
I swear I love your content. It's always so informative. Thank you so much for your hard work
I have never really studied the path of a hurricane but seeing a lot of Jamaicans think of Cuba being a big brother always helping I always thought our geographical location to Cuba always protect us from the hurricanes
Hi Irina, you are a cut above the rest. Another well-researched and well put together video. Thank you for enlightening me. Stay bless!
You are absolutely a champion in action young lady indeed
Fantastic! Another terrific video. I have to say thank you again for the stellar content. I have to pace myself with these videos. I could easily lose a day watching these and seeing your take on my favorite place to be ever! Big up to you and your involvement with Jamaica!!!
Very informative video thank you ❤
Thank always carissima Irina🥰 always love your info & videos🥰👍🏾💞
Thank you very much! I have been to Jamaica several times and always wonder about hurricane season when planning a trip. I better understand now.
Good explanation! No lies and no stutters. I always wanted to know how hurricanes always past jamaica, but now i have it. May God bless you
Very informative, Irina! Good work!
My Geography teacher would have been proud of this presentation. WELL DONE! Keep "feeding" us with knowledge and truths.
This is such a great video. As someone who knows a lot about weather it is great to see it explained so well. Also the look on your face when you're asking flat earthers to explain how cyclones exist is how I look at them too when they go on and on. Haha
Brilliant! Irie, I really love your channel. This video is very informative.
Very educational Irie, thanks for sharing!!!!!!!
Take away topic. The format of this documentary is well constructed. Awesome job with the topic too
Wow!! Well done!!!! So thorough and informative. Very well presented. I'm Jamaican. Really appreciate this.
Thank you Irene,Very informative video.
Irina any teacher who teaches geography can use this information in his or her class. It's very informative and educational.
Your video was absolutely informative. Thank you 🙏
I would say Jamaica has the deflection power of prayer; there are a lot of strong believers…🙏🏽💕💕💕
This was beautiful. As an earth scientist I thoroughly enjoyed 😀. Another factor to consider for movement is the Bermuda high pressure which helps steer the systems.
Thank you! I'm not an Earth scientist, so I was worried I would mess things up when explaining and I wish I had you for consultation, would have saved me tonnes of time! Happy to know you've enjoyed the video :)))) And yes, you're totally right about Bermuda high. I was thinking if I should go into details by explaining Bermuda High and Azores High and their influence, but then just decided to mention them under "subtropical ridge" and pointing at Azores High as an example.
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE You're welcome. We'll researched!
Another amazing video. Thank you Irina. God Bless.
I learned so much! Thank you Irina!
Thanks Irena, I really appreciate your information. I have been discussing this very subject with friends. My point was that the Blue Mountains of my island has been helping all along, but the size of Gilbert was much too much for Blue Mountains. Your video and explanations have now widened my knowledge of other mountain chains in Dominica and Puerto Rico.
Thank you.
Extremely informative! Thanks Irina! I love your channel!
We are so glad u are back. We really appreciate ur work.
Wow. Incredibly interesting! Thank you, Irena!
Impressive and informative post, thanks Irene.
This was actually a well-made presentation of hurricanes and how they work.
I would add to your comments about JA being blessed that location is everything in the context of hurricane track. The Bahamas and Florida are two of the most frequently hit areas in this part of the world simply because they lie in the part of the Atlantic where the global steering patterns tend to set up shop during the busiest part of the season, that is August and September. Jamaica, otoh, tends to get hit most frequently in October, when steering patterns tend to shift south and / or allow for more unusual South to North tracks. Even that depends on what those global patterns are like from year to year, and there are actually decadal patterns that can influence the frequency and track of tropical cyclones.
So I am pretty impressed about how well you were able to condense into 30 minutes a topic that can take a considerably longer period of time to explain.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your feedback (including the Taino part too)! The original script I wrote was for a 2 hour video 😂, and yes, it was quite a challenge to fit it into 30 mins, so had to cut out quite a bit. As for Jamaica being hit, I see that a direct hurricane comes around Jamaica every 40 years or so. So we should be expecting one before 2030. That was one of the parts I cut out from the video, but I will mention in the "hurricane preparation" video closer to the beginning of the season.
Glad you enjoyed this episode! Stay tuned. Thank you!
Thanks for this useful info on hurricanes.
