    Hi Motor Octane,
    First of all thanks for making this comparison video between Tiago and Ignis, it is really helpful. I have been having this constant debate in my mind whether to go for Tiago or Ignis. Tiago looks to be more VFM but Ignis, being a Maruti is more reliable and would have good resale value.
    I took multiple test drives of the two, but couldn't come to a conclusion as both had certain advantages and disadvantages over the other. I liked Tiago's ride and handling, steering experience is really nice and has the active return feature, which seemed to lack in Ignis. However, there was engine noise and in the AMT variant, when you put sports mode on it gets really loud.
    Ignis on the other hand is dead silent, don't know about higher speeds, as couldn't go much high on the streets of Bangalore. Yes, I hate the head unit and the ac controls in all the variants except alpha, but I think, one can get used to it. Moreover you can always retrofit a touchscreen head unit, Maruti is already providing options in that area. U can even change the AC control knobs in order to make it less visually painful.
    Agreed, to make all the modifications, one will end up spending way more than getting a Tiago top end, but if you see as human beings we have a tendency to get bored of things very soon. I am sure after a while we would want to do the same to Tiago as well, hence we will be spending almost the same. All in all we will be back to ground zero.
    So, my take on this is if by spending 50k to 1lakh more you get a better peace of mind, why take the chance? as not all plan to change their cars in 2-3 yrs. Their would be a marginal increase in your EMI's, which is true but if you think about it, we all waste a lot of money daily in useless things(Smoking, drinking, gutkha, girlfriend LOL etc etc). Maybe we can cut corners there and invest it here.
    I am not against TATA and I would be very Happy to see Tiago prove its mettle as it is an Indian product, but it still has a long way to go. When it comes to investing my hard earned money I will always look for a more secured option. Maybe next time when I buy a car, and if Tata till then proves itself I wouldn't mind going for it.
    Now, having all that said my current confusion is:
    * Alfa/ Zeta amt or Delta amt, which is more value for money?
    *Considering the ridiculous traffic in Bangalore would it be a good idea to go for AMT or is the manual so easy to drive that I wouldn't miss the automatic much?
    *I like the top end the most but will it come at the cost of convenience?

      Hi Rupak
      Thank you for your detailed email too. We were just to reply to that.
      Lets look at your bits case to case:
      Manual or AMT: If you majorly drive in the city and in traffic, which you mention you do, then pick up the AMT for sure.
      Second bit: Zeta or Delta. If you can afford the Zeta AMT go for it. You get some features that aren't available in aftermarket also. Like the rear wiper and defogger. The music system on the Ignis is surprisingly very good and to be honest you do not need more features than this. Projector headlamps, LEDs, keyless entry, touchscreen system are also extra luxury features. We say just pick the Zeta AMT. Its a one time investment, you will not need anything extra. The Ignis AMT is very smooth and extremely comfortable to drive. For Bangalore we will say stick to AMT, unless you do highway driving.
      Congratulations for your new car in advance. We will be glad to stay in touch to know your happy ownership experience.
      Best Regards
      MotorOctane Team

      Hi MotorOctane,
      I think you are right to say AMT would be a better choice in Bangalore, I was just falling for the fancy creature comforts in the alpha variant.
      Now, my other query: Is a rear wiper and defogger really necessary? The reason I am asking this is because the price difference between zeta amt petrol and delta amt petrol is around 50k.
      The extras that come in zeta amt are:
      1. Push start button- not a necessity.
      2. Alloy Wheels- not a necessity.
      3. Wheel arch molding- Can be done separately from dealership for 4.5k, still not a necessity, only for looks.
      4. Chrome ascents and chrome garnish- Can be done later, only for looks.
      5. 2 extra speakers- Can be done for 4k at dealership.
      6. Rear parking sensors- Can be retrofitted from dealership.
      7. Fog lamps- Can be retrofitted from dealership for 3.8k.
      8. Rear wiper and defogger- Unable to decide if it is a necessity or not.
      So, if I spend around 10-15 k more I can pretty much take care of the audio and cosmetic parts. So, now the only deciding factor is the rear wiper and defogger. Hence, unless that is something I would repent not having later on, I think the Ignis Delta amt petrol is a better choice for me.
      Would really appreciate your opinion on this. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Friends,
    I took test drive of i10, Ignis and Tiago AMT versions and I finally decided to buy Tiago XZA.. .
    Why I bought Tiago over all other super sold market products. . . The reason is below. ..
    I had a budget of 6.0 Lacs Rs and I wanted to have safe car at this price range. No doubt if you consider safe car in 6Lacs with automatic transmission then you have only 1 choise. . . It is Tiago. No other company provides you as many features like ABS, EBD, ESP and airbags at this price range. . .
    Talking about the resale value. . .
    If I buy a car at 6.00 lacs and if I get the resale value of this car in 2025 at 2.50 lacs then it is ok with me. Since I paid less and decreased paying 8.70% interest on that 1.00 Lac rs for 5 years which approx saved me 1.30 Lacs. If I think about the resale then I am sure that Tata tiago will be considered way better in some years than people currently think.
    Hope who ever wins it, there is certain loss for the many non-indian company and renault kwid is the one who is experiencing it right now . . .
    One more thing if you see some crash of Tiagos you will know why it is called Baby tank. . .
    Thank you. . .

    Ignis looks good only from the front..while Tiago is balanced from all sides. Ignis has lots of features but the cost of the top variants are very high as well. Whereas Tiago is offering very good features at affordable price comparison with Ignis. Performance is also good in both cars but Tiago has much engine noise inside the car because of it's 3 cylinder engine. Again that's acceptable because 3 cylinder engine offers better mileage. So overall I think Tiago is the best car in this segment.

    • @motoroctane
      @motoroctane Před 7 lety +7

      There is a major difference in the performance of the two cars.After driving Ignis and Tiago back to back for a while, the difference is evident. Ignis is extremely fuel-efficient, offers more space, reliability, better service network and when compared Ignis Delta with Tiago XZ, Ignis has similar features. Refinement and ease of driving, power at almost any engine speed, lesser need to shift gears in traffic make Ignis a strong product.What it misses out on the driving fun of the Tiago, while Tiago misses out on service, resale, engine power, engine refinement and even touch and feel of materials.

    Sir Good Review..... I am a Insurance Surveyor & Loss Assessor. I agree that maruti engines are good and capable. We everytime under rate Tata . The body i.e, Metal Sheet quality and reinforced structure provided by Tata is far more better than Maruti Suzuki or any other brand. The kerb weight of Tata cars is heavy due to its Reinforced structure. I have surveyed many high speed collission/ losses of different brands. I have noticed tata cars body due to its reinforced structure stays intact. Maruti Suzuki has so bad metal sheet quality that if it get an frontal impact from front its cross members along with aprons of both sides gets damaged. It leads to mis alignment of wheel and the stability decreases and tyre wear increases. I agree the gear knob vibration in 1st and 2nd gear is present in Tiago Nrg and NVH levels are high as compared. As i live in hilly terrain all cars produce high NVH level but a little more in Tiago. Stability of tiago is better on rough patches is better than Ignis/Swift considering rough roads. The kerb weight of car help to keep the car more planted. Considering body shell strength and safety tata is a clear winner. Initial pickup of tata lags due to its weight but as soon u passes 20 km/hr speed and it gain motion it become fun to drive and have ample amount of power and pickup and safety. ABS system is 4 channel In all tata ABS equipted cars. Fit and finish of tata cars in 2018 is brilliant. I request you to review tata nrg considering its new suspension setup and engine tunning. Its a very peppy car and also under rated !!!

    according to your word tiago is better build quality, better handling, better fuel efficiency , these are the main things what we are expect....apart from these things, there is no use like bluetooth, touchscreen,..............i think the tiago will be the clear win in between these 2 cars.
    next about price..........5.3 lack onroad price of tiago diesel base model and 4.2 lack petrol base model. In ignis 5.4 lack base petrol model and 7.70 lack base diesel model.
    please compare the the things that is really useful for us. use some technical things like how the suspension works, show lower body structure, if accident is happened how the front hood react and save the life ..... engine durability, suspension type , maintenance cost.l.....

    • @motoroctane
      @motoroctane Před 7 lety +18

      Hi Milantm24
      The Tiago is a very good product, but there are some issues with the car that the company doesn't seem to fix even now. If you need a petrol car, it needs to be silent, it should have good service, good reliability and even good resale. If we just talk product to product comparison, Tiago is a better product on paper. But when you drive the two cars, you will see the difference in quality. You did mention the base model pricing, but the fact that the Ignis is a four-cylinder engine and Tiago is three. This changes the pricing completely. Then moving on to the engine performance, comfort and space Ignis is ahead of the Tiago. In safety? Ignis offers 2 airbags and ABS on all models, Tiago only on the top model.
      All automakers are going lighter on weight for better mileage and performance, but that doesn't mean the materials are inferior. The lighter materials do not mean not safe. New Range Rover is lighter by 420 kilos, auto makers are making their cars lighter, and Maruti will not do such a thing to a new product when the new crash test norms are just 2 years away. It is already offering dual airbags and ABS as a standard feature.

    your review is ok until u declared ignis delta better than tiago xz. i had to make a decision between the two last month. The problem was that i wanted AMT. Ignis AMT delta was not worth the price. The quality of plastic inside was cheap. The big let down was stereo in delta and white finishing on dashboard which tends to get dirty very quickly. Delta even had lots of things missing on exteriors like wheel cladding, alloys, chrome grill etc. which made it look even cheaper. Tiago was always a better choice in this case.

    • @motoroctane
      @motoroctane Před 7 lety +8

      Hey Arpit
      There are lesser features on the Ignis, but what the car offers is much better refinement, performance, durability, reliability, cheaper to service and easy resale. Tiago is an excellent car, there is no doubt, but there are still issues of reliability, service and resale. If you look at things in the shorter run, Tiago is your choice. Think of it as a car you need to live with for a few years, Ignis comes ahead of it. We love the Tiago as a product, and it has some shortcomings, which needs to be fixed by the company. Which is not visible, atleast as of now. So many cases of car issues in our comments itself on Tiago and even Hexa. On the other hand, we haven't even got 1 compliant on bad Maruti service for even one product. Doesn't that say a lot about how buyers are happy with the product?

    • @motoroctane
      @motoroctane Před 7 lety +48

      HI Sumesh
      We understand why you are upset. But there is a difference of single cylinder. This sees a major difference not just in performance, but even cost. Refinement, the ease of driving, and other aspects make Ignis a better product. We love the Tiago, but it isn't hidden from anyone that there are some issues and we have read many complaints from Tiago owners on the channel itself. Ignis has better resale and even service network as well.
      The reason why the Ignis is lighter because it is made of light alloys that have the same strength. Maruti will not get a new car at a time when in the next 2 years all cars have to pass the global crash test norms. The new Range Rover that has been built is 420 kilograms than the previous gen, does that mean it isn't safe? Formula 1 cars do not weigh even 1000kilos, does it mean they aren't safe? Today all the automakers are moving on to lighter and stronger metals to improve performance without affecting safety. What if your budget is lower and you can buy a mid model Tiago or a base model Ignis, which has better safety package? Maruti, VW and Toyota are some of the few that have started to offer airbags and ABS as a standard feature for all variants. Not everyone buys a top end model, so their life isn't important? Hope these points help :)

    Dear MotorOctane, thanks for making such wonderful and detailed comparison between Tiago & Ignis. This comparison will help a lot who are thinking for these cars.
    Both models are offering almost same kind of features but in Indian market price is biggest deciding factor.
    In matter of price Tiago is offering same kind of features at very - very reasonable price. There is huge price difference between both cars. In Fact Tiago should get extra weightage looking the price factor compare to Ignis otherwise it will be a biased with Tiago.

    @Lee.S Před 7 lety +11

    If we still evaluate buying cars based on sales and service network, we will end up being old fashioned and biased.
    The truth is to appreciate what the manufacturer has done and which segment they targeted it for. And Tiago is definitely an excellent value for money car than the Ignis by a huge margin. Why should I pay few lakhs extra when I can get enough necessary features and safety in Tiago. Not that Ignis is a bad car, but Ignis is for those who simply want to show off (yes, it's a good looking car). But who says that Tiago doesn't stand out? It is a good looking car with the right lines & curves. It's just that both appeal to different audience.
    I've been driving the Tiago around for more than a year, and its every penny worth. I've enjoyed every bit of it. No wonder it's got more than 1 lakh bookings already. I don't believe Tiago buyers bought their cars because they were near to a service center but because they loved it. Also neither Maruti or Tata is perfect but when you compare cars from different segments, don't make a judgement on who is a winner & loser, but only share their strong & weak points.
    If you wanted a winner, then you should have compared Tiago with Celerio or Ignis with i10 grand.
    Definitely Tiago' engine refinement won't be at par with Ignis but I expected Ignis to come with more power and technology as available in the international market which is mainly available in 4wd, which again got toned down in India. So again, Suzuki is playing cheap with Indian buyers and charging premium for a technology which is available for less in other cars. When you think from that context, I would rather invest in a product that is new and authentic from the very beginning like Tiago.
    (Today, I had Ignis Alpha owner peeking at my car inside and outside at the petrol pump. Guess that made my day) Haha!

    I test drive both cars. Tiago is value for money but after one year a lot of issues are surfacing. Rattling noise from dash board, poor AC, engine noise, poor cabin insulation, gear vibrations, and some lag in pick up etc. I was almost prepared to book Tiago xz. I was not enthusiastic because of these issues which are now frequently being discussed in auto forums by owners and than I drove ignis and my decision changed in just one drive. Engine is way smoother than tiago. No constant great shifts are required in city traffic conditions, light steering, beautiful handling, gradual braking bite with ABS safety across variants etc. I booked ignis zeta and I'll take delivery in this coming week. My first priority is safety, better and reliable engine and both conditions are met by ignis. Just because of lack of pre tensioners and load limiters, EBD in I 10 grand Asta I chose ignis over it even though I was offered a discount of 75k.

After going through many reviews I couldn't remember even a single review where Tiago has been recommended over Ignis. I think Ignis is way better than Tiago on many counts e.g engine refinement,safety features, size of wheeels, space, interiors, n aftersale etc. Despite having a very good looking car Tiago can't match Ignis n it can be easily said that "All that glitters is not gold "

      @motoroctane Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Abhishek
      Honda Jazz is a good car. But at that price, you won't get any safety features and for that reason we will recommend to consider either the Grand i10 SX(O) or look at the Baleno. These variants shall offer safety for you and your family.

      We love Tata cars, but we can't be biased towards a brand. Ignis and Tiago both have strong points, just that the Ignis is a bit better in an overall picture

      Uttam Chinchale, haven't sold it. Getting mediocre offers which ranges from 2.5 lacs to 5.7 lacs. This was the price I got when my Tiago was 6 months old and 4200 km on odo, and in mint condition.
