14. But then as to the two other orders at first mentioned, the Pharisees are those who are esteemed most skillful in the exact explication of their laws, and introduce the first sect. These ascribe all to fate [or providence], and to God, and yet allow, that to act what is right, or the contrary, is principally in the power of men, although fate does co-operate in every action. They say that all souls are incorruptible, but that the souls of good men only are removed into other bodies,-but that the souls of bad men are subject to eternal punishment. But the Sadducees are those that compose the second order, and take away fate entirely, and suppose that God is not concerned in our doing or not doing what is evil; and they say, that to act what is good, or what is evil, is at men's own choice, and that the one or the other belongs so to every one, that they may act as they please. They also take away the belief of the immortal duration of the soul, and the punishments and rewards in Hades. Moreover, the Pharisees are friendly to one another, and are for the exercise of concord, and regard for the public; but the behavior of the Sadducees one towards another is in some degree wild, and their conversation with those that are of their own party is as barbarous as if they were strangers to them. And this is what I had to say concerning the philosophic sects among the Jews.
Location of the Essenes:
According to Josephus, the Essenes had settled "not in one city" but "in large numbers in every town". Philo speaks of "more than four thousand" Essaioi living in "Palestine and Syria", more precisely, "in many cities of Judaea and in many villages and grouped in great societies of many members". Pliny locates them "on the west side of the Dead Sea, away from the coast... [above] the town of Engeda". Some modern scholars and archaeologists have argued that Essenes inhabited the settlement at Qumran, a plateau in the Judean Desert along the Dead Sea, citing Pliny the Elder in support, and giving credence that the Dead Sea Scrolls are the product of the Essenes. This theory, though not yet conclusively proven, has come to dominate the scholarly discussion and public perception of the Essenes.
John the Baptist and the Essenes:
The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls drew attention to the numerous parallels between John’s mission and that of the Essenes, with whom John may have received some of his religious training. Both were priestly in origin, were ascetic, and had intense and, in many respects, similar expectations about the end of the world. But John neither belonged to nor intended to found any organized community, he did not stress study of the Mosaic Law, and his message was more widely directed (to the poor, to sinners) than was that of the Essenes. Jesus Christ, who was baptized by John, saw in John the last and greatest of the prophets, the one who prepared for coming of Christ and God’s kingdom (Mark 9, Matthew 11, Luke 7), and in many ways his ministry continued and developed John’s. Many of John´s disciples later followed Jesus.

This is the first time I've heard about these people. They seem to live more like Jesus than anyone else that I've heard of.

What I find amazing is that I was born in the early 50's and my parents had two different religious backgrounds. They were not Church goer's yet made sure we went to Sunday School wherever we lived. We traveled alot the first 9 year's of my life YET the very principle's you speak of were practiced in our home .
Your word was your bond and you shook hands when you were doing business of any kind . If we told a lie my parents would say, " God doesn't like liars, so choose your word's wisely. "
We were called in for lunch/dinner 30 minutes so we could get cleaned up before coming to the table. That means washing your hands and face, brush your hair and make sure it wasn't hanging around our faces. And had to put on a clean shirt. Clothes were passed down if they needed a repair they would repair it then pass it on after it was out grown . An extra place setting was always placed at the dinner table Incase anyone came buy. I could go on.

Ressurrection and reincarnation are not the same thing. You don't come back as someone or something else. In ressurrection only your sin nature will be gone then you will be truly who you were created to be with out sin. But only if you trust Him when He said he came to be given as an atonement for sin for the many. In the new body it is only the sinful nature, or the flesh that departs not any part of your being as a living soul. All will rise to judgement some to eternal life if the believe Y'shua is God incarnate that died to take the wrath of God you deserve so you can live freely in His live forever, or rise to the eternal torment of being excluded from His life and over. Each gets what they want God or not God. These are the only choices their are. You don't get another life to " get it right". I think John the Baptist and Lord Jesus were Essenes because they definitely weren't Pharisees or Sadducees. Apparently, Essene communities were at Mt Carmel, Kumran and Lake Mariout in Egypt...

jesus was a rabbinate. he was a rabbi. taught and read in the synagogues amongst the other midrash and Talmud learned jews which were the majority during his time in israel. if he was an essene nobody would have known him. he was a full blown rabbi until it was revealed his followers believed he was messiah. its alot to explain but definitely some fun and interesting research i suggest you begin im sure you will enjoy. The Essenes were as Josephus said were truly Yahudean. Even though the other ones had Israelites too Paul was a Israelite.
The account is somewhat weird, because supposedly Essenes were vegetarians and forbidden to eat anything that had blood or fat, were forbidden to eat animals, did not participate in houses of worship that performed animal sacrifices, but this report mentions "meat" at a meal, many Essenes were also known to live in beautiful cave structures.
Meat used to refer to food in general (not just animal flesh) and as language has evolved it has become more specific in meaning.....

After Herod Antipas killed the Baptist, in the Israelite tradition of the day, the widow married the the next-of-kin of the deceased husband. Y'shua was the oldest 2nd cousin of John. The wedding at Cana was between Jesus & Magdalen which is why he was responsible for the wine.

When "Greeks" are mentioned, in John 12.20 for example, the members of the Tribe of Judah are meant. Judah was sold to Greece after Babylonian Captivity (Joel 3.6).
"Those of the circumcision" are "jews" or ESAU - Edomites who have been counterfeiting Judah and calling themselves "Israelis" for many years now, officially since May 14, 1948 - going on 75 years.
"Those uncircumcised" were the men of Israel, to whom the Messiah came and where He was born in Bethlehem, which is in Israel. Bethlehem was the name of the first-born son of Ephraim, who God calls His firstborn in Jeremiah 31.9.
The new testament (which is not "new") can be confusing due to the conflation of terms such as "jew", "Greek", "uncircumcised", "circumcised", "Gentile" etc.
Israel IS the Gentile and Israel IS "the Nations" and Israel IS the Kingdom.
Judah is "the tribe" but also "the Greek".
Circumcision is TALMUDIC and Edomite- "jewish" and has been injected into Biblical Scripture on purpose, in order that the children of Jacob-Israel (who are not "jews" as "jews" are Edomites) would succumb to the lie and be like Esau. God wants circumcised hearts and ears that hear the truth. (Jer 4.4., 9.1-3; Deut 12.10-17) Eyes to see and hears to hear and discern truth from falsehood.
There's only one problem with this story, HaShem gave a mitzvot to married and procreate since the beginning of man kind so if they the ( Esenes) did not married or were cautious to get married that would have been a violation of Torah especially if they were that stick and that is a discrepancy.

I think you may be missing the overall, point in this, as I have no doubt the Jews of this time did as well. They preferred not to be married as they wished the whole of their lives and attention be on God, in the way THEY, understood God. Being married, as high and noble as it is, would have been a distraction for them. But they say in the video here, that there were branches of the Sect that was more open to this, so as to perpetuate the race. Also, these were not Torah Observing Jews, as Jews understand it today, it seems. They were, in the sense they seemed to understand the Torah in a different sense.
