When I was reading online about the rusting region of north eastern China, I was expecting decaying and ugly places like the rusting belt in the US. But actually it looks so wealthy and rich even if the region isn't booming like GBA or Shanghai!
north eastern china Indeed has been "rusting" for the past 2 decades, but from a higher standard. in 1949, three provinces in north eastern china had 80% of the whole chinese GDP. north eastern china has always been the richest area of china , even in 1910s when it was called machuria, north eastern china had already been the richest place. in 1970s and 1980s, small cites like anshan and daqing with 2 million people had the same gdp like chengdu with 15 million people. this is how rich north eastern china was. during the later era of japanese occupation, machuria's gdp per capita was higher than japan mainland. In 1945, machuria was the fourth strongest industry "country"(area), just behind US, soviet union, and UK.
