- Short video compilation of 8MM film put together by Curt Jensen with a focus on Ervin & Willard Jensen's new 60 JD 4010 Diesel purchased in Jan 62. Included scenes: tractor unloaded brand new, sons & neighbor boys sitting on it, 237 corn picker & sheller, new manure spreader, tractor pulling in Beresford, Alcester, and Sioux Falls, SD. Also, you will see neighbors, friends, and other relatives from the the "good ole" days.
Restored a few of them (mechanical all the way through to proper professional paint). Cool to see somebody take ownership of a new machine.
This is in the heart of where I grew up - Hudson SD! Grew up on a farm a few miles out of town there.
THANK YOU!!!! And who ever filmed this back in the day!!!! I wish I had been a baby boomer. I was just born 30 some odd years late haha. I do have lot of pictures of when Granddad got a new tractor (Deere A, G 620, 630, 3010, 4020, 4620, and the ones I was there for 4440 &4450) only one left is one 4020 my uncle sold the 4450. I love how everyone got a ride even in the cold. And how the older gentleman climbed onto the tractor like it was a two cylinder coming up the back by fender. The sled pull so simple but yet so affective!!
Very cool -- I remember those winters -- but I was in NORTH Dakota --even colder!!
Cool video!
my grandpa bought a brand new 4010 in 1961. im hauling it down to our farm this summer to change the clutch and get it running. hasnt run since 1998. so he ol girl needs some coaxing but a 4010 will live through it.
Absolutely love this video. Not from that era but I wish more people had videos of these new tractors, combines, and equipment from that era
I worked on a dairy farm that had 2 4010 diesel tractors. I also started farming with a 237 mounted picker. It was neat to see a new one.
First John Deere I learned to drive was the 4010 diesel because I couldn't work the clutch on the 70 diesel. Our mechanic Ray would tighten the clutch my 10 year old muscle couldn't release it.
One thing I noticed on the 4010 in the movie clip was it had no 3 pt arms, also when they put the mounted picker on it then had a straight pipe and also lost the rear wheel weights. Yes I notice those things. LOL .
My heart just swelled for that family on their Big Day! :)
Love it. Thanks for sharing. It reminds me of stripping cotton with a 4020 and 283 cotton stripper. What memories.
The 4010 was the first farm tractor I got to drive in July of 1974.
We have a diesel 4010. My grandpa bought it new. Still runs great. It looks like that one doesn't have 3pt hitch!
Yes, we bought it back after being gone for 30 years. We are almost finished restoring it back to like new condition.
did you guys M&W turbo kit that 4010? I saw the strait pipe. my uncle& his dad had a 3010 with that kit

Dad had a heat houser as well, but I don't remember much about it...I do remember him putting a year round cab on it in 1970, when i was 6 years old...
Look at that JD hammer mill in the background !
I believe that was a number 6 sheller.
I remember those good old days…back when men were men & women were women & you could raise a family on 1 income & the only thing we worried about was nuclear fall out drills…. I miss those days….
in 1962 we got aur first Massey Ferguson 35
What tractor did this replace, if any?
thegreenerthemeaner the 4010/4020 replaced the 720 which was the last 2 cillender Tractor John Deere ever made
