As a friend of Dan I can tell you his lesson from his own words:
"Theres a reason why you dont play slow... It increases the chances of getting a kick".
And hes right.
Lesson learned...
He will chase SVB some other time. in my opinion.
Till then, he made himself a great name.
Hes truly a colossal player.
Thanks Gonen! Lesson of the day, just had to learn that one with a big price on it! But from a learning point of view, it's even better! 🤘🎱
When you say "kick" do you mean a skid??
Where ever this is these people are a loving type. Hugging their comrade. Warms the heart.
Dan actually has a CZcams channel from years ago! One video is an SVB best shot compilation, safe to so say he’s living his dream playing his idol!
Yeah ;)) that's right, it was my first video editing 'SVB Best Shots' it has like 100k views now, he was definitely my childhood idol, honored for the oppurtunity, all thanks to Robert Braga & Bogdan Chirodea, the organizers of Bucharest open!
I've met Dan the next day and talked about that particular match and last shot, we laughed and had great time. Great guy. Really humble, hope to see you next year at the tournament
HEY! I'll remember you for good! thanks for the support and seeya!
@Dan_Afriat Haha glad you remember who I am. If there is Mezz Bucharest next year, I am going to be there, drinks are on me! :)
haven't seen this guy shoot before, even if i was exhausted after watching him quickly walk around so much :) what a great pattern player & shot maker -- can't wait to watch him move up the rankings in the next few years!!!
also, that other guy was right. 150 is always too much.
Thanks! That game built some more confidence for me! 🙏
Never heard of this Dan, but don’t know why. He’s obviously a talented straight shooter. Keep going, Dan!
Thank you! I live in Israel so not very close to any action, maybe a sponsor can help! 😊
@@Dan_Afriat good match Dan! I hope to see you play again.
Dan played a great game and probably made that shot, far more often then he missed it. He is playing against Shane and regardless of your skill level, that’s gonna weigh some on your conscience. I think he just didn’t stay down on that last shot. We’ve all been there. Also, I was impressed how Dan wasn’t sped up by Shane’s higher paced shooting. Sometimes that can throw a player off. Well done to both
then or THAN is an epidemic.
That was as loud a kick on that last 9 ball as I've ever heard. But, that's why we don't roll those in...
yup, needed authority on that hit. Dolly'd it.
Dan has great mechanics and is very consistent on all his shots
Very much. Watching him made me realize the vast difference in how we play. He's gotten the pre shot routine and everything down so good it's robotic even. Me I'm the ghost of Ralph Greenleaf, Fast Eddie, & Triple Smarts Fats all in one. I shoot perfect balancing on one leg with another in the air, sometimes not even looking at the table. I do all kind of beautiful masse and elevated shots just for appeal. You'd think I'm a professional fantasy/trickshot player who was a Vegas act too lol.im more colorful than Earl strickland, but more of a gentlemen than Eddie Taylor
Damn, You sound like that kid I taught pool about 73 years ago.
I s that you “Haka” ?
That one hurt, been there done that! It seems to me everyone has that moment in their pool career.
02:37 Someone knows? I'm a bit confused with this play.
In the second game Dan Afriat breaks the rack and puts in 2 balls, why does Shane Van Boening shoot after?
3 point rule
i think some rule where u gotta put two balls? past the head string
@@cliffstine3412 3 point rule: gotta make a combination of at least three balls either sunk or up past the headstring.
Shane is the goat of this generation love watching him play would really like to see hem play in person would be really cool
You can tell how he was walking around in the last game that he was nervous. Taking his time on each shot. Heart pounding. Just hit the 9 a little to full. 😞
nope. He had a kick. He hit it correctly, anglewise. But the kick/skid thickened it. BUT , he caused it by pokin' at the 9. Shoot it firm and this is much less likely to happen. Bad luck tbh.
他很棒!包含他的禮貌,前途光明。
Yep, he poked at the nine ball instead of his usual nice stroke. Since my own shot routine lets me down every time I lift my head up during the shot I always look for the consistency in the pro players routines. Dan has a real nice stroke, but he needs a little more consistency in his shot routine: 1) a couple of times he was moving during the shot even if he didn’t miss, 2) the aforementioned poke, and 3) some times he moves his right foot when lining up the shot and most times he doesn’t. Nice guy, and IMHO he will be a star if he keeps at it.
thanks a lot, appreciated the feedback and criticism, open to all ideas! @@anthonykeller5120

Dan is one of the most promising young talents in this league
Amazing player 😮 👏👏👏
Hes definitely up there
This kid is so focused and pool intelligent that he can be #1 in the world. Fantastic to watch. Robotic, in a good way. Go kid,see how good you can be.
For sure his pool IQ is up there. There was a beautiful play early I think rack 3 or 2 where the 7,8,and 9 were on the table and he easily can make the 7 but had tough shape to setup a good leave to make the 8 and 9 without traveling around the table. So he does something most wouldn't have done and instead of making the 7 and either using a ton of inside english to stun off the rail to get on the 8 or come 4 rails around the table. So he makes the 7 and brilliantly bumps the 9 to move it perfectly for a easy shot on the 8. He honestly almost made the 9 and for a second I thought he was looking at the two for one and tried the carom on the 9 because it was almost in the pocket in the way of the 8. But after watching him play I see how sharp he is. I'm just lost why in rack 6 he breaks and makes the 6 I think then SVB comes to the table. He can see the 1 and its not an easy make but doesn't touch the cue ball on a push out. It happened earlier also. So Idk if he's just pushing and Shane just let's it sit where it lies or what
Thank you David, very heart warming! 😊
I like how he takes his time with his pre shot routine, even if it's a give me shot
@@smallybiggzzzwow! So flattering thanks!
@@smallybiggzzzare you from India?
You really are having a hard time today, aren't you....
4 rails off the 7 for shape on the 8?
Stun/inside....slide above the 9 (more than likely slightly up hill) bump the side rail, float more than likely against the grain
Fun match. I thought the young man's break let him down more than anything. I'd have nerves playing against SVB as well.
In rack 6 at time 17:05 as the cue ball was coming to a stop at the stupid rack guide and it defiantly changed where it stoped.
He should have walked around the table one more time😢
Annoying
55 years ago the old timers told me "ya study ya study wrong"
That nine taught Dan a powerful lesson.
what lesson? there is no such of lesson for this you miss shots under pressure the only lesson to learn is next time get closer to the nine ball went you're shooting the eight
@@cukin65 If you think so.
Don’t roll the money ball hill hill against Shane
Shane can sink em every bit as fast as Earl ever did. And that kid is DAN GOOD. I like how he gives every shot ten sec before getting down on it
Thank you! Yes, visualization before going down is key i think.
I shouldn’t be feeling this bad for the guy, but I do 😢😢😢
Maybe you should donate money to his travel/tournament entry fee fund....... I am sure it will help clear your conscious
It was massive for him
@@mimikemorgan.shoots2643 his entry , travel? He’s local
The game is near 100% fundamentals on the day to day. In competition, I'd say it's more like a 70% - 30% split on fundamental/nerves. Maybe even more drastic when playing someone like SVB.
OMG that was so effed up. Heartbreaker
看得出來比較羞澀,但前途無量,包含他的禮貌,加油!來自臺灣的鼓勵。
It can be seen that he is shy, but he has a bright future, including his politeness, come on! Encouragement from Taiwan
Future champion 👍👍👍👍👍
yup
any of us who've played this sport knows what that feel like
Guys, why haven't I heard of Dan Afriat? Guy's pretty good!
Thanks man! 🤙
@@Dan_Afriat Is that really you? Y'know, the one keeping up with SVB? 😳
@@brjones27Sure! Would have liked to seal the deal there, but it was a needed lesson i guess, gave the match of my life, and was shaking in the end, the CB kicked on the 9 but still my fault for playing it so slow..
Trying to catch some sponsors to fund more trips. Thanks again man!
@@Dan_Afriat Dude, SVB is one of the greatest players of all time. What u did was freaking awesome. Hell yea, REALLY thinking about playing again myself.
23:06 What is this format? You make a ball on thebreak and your opponent gets to shoot? Illegal break?
Same thing as the second rack, they're playing 3 point rule. On the break at least 3 balls have to be pocketed, cross the head string, or any combination of the two.
What happened at @23:12 after he made a ball on the break then Shane stepped in to shoot? Was it an illegal break?
When your mind won't let you win. Dan has nothing to be ashamed of because he will win the next time he is in the situation. Experience is a great teacher.
Not sure why Dan hit that 9 ball so slow. The guy was playing great up till then (other than his break).
What was asked at 4-4, after the break?
Maybe regarding balls past headstring on break. If illegal no push is allowed. Hence him kicking the one. Or alternatively he could put Shane back in.
However Shane moved three over the line including the yellow one ball came in and out the kitchen. They may have overlooked this.
🤷♂️
My best guess.
Ouch.
he can't sleep until now
Shane's greatest win ever, lol.
I'm confused why in rack 6 Dan breaks and makes the 6 on the break and SVB comes to the table. I think I saw another rack earlier where the same happened. Made the one ball in the side then looked like a tough spot on the two so I just figured he pushed without actually touching the cue ball and passed to SVB. Rack 6 my only assumption would be the same that he doesn't like shape on the 1 ball and pushes but can't hear the call out. Is this some weird spot that Dan gives SVB lol. What is going on lol
How many balls passed the top 2 diamonds I think that's why
...the pressure
Shane won by "reputation" on this one.
Shane laughing his ass off 🤣
What happened in rack 2 after the break
skid... perhaps a little draw, like shane did later, would have eliminated the risk of the bad contact
That’s the way to play the shot, or like earl says put a little spin
Yup, he played it way too slow and you can see his stick wobble upon contact. Man, I have done the same way too many times.
Everyone has missed a relativity easy shot. Give the kid props, he’s not going anywhere but up!
Bad camera 🎥 work? 😳
Why fundamentals r soo important. Stay down on your shot, no matter how easy you think it is.😮 ill try staying down more😂 im also gonna bring back that little sidestep thing he does... gotta aim with my feet first...
Oh yeah and gotta master that $VB break to!
Great match🤯🤘
The last 9 was a kick. He should't have taken the bet from the poor guy just as a matter of appreciation. Once in a while you have to be generous.
What was the bet I missed it
camera makes it look like he was aiming at the right side of the cue ball?
It skidded
Poor guy, I've been there.
We've all been there.
Shane’s laugh lmfao
Sounded like a kick on that last 9 ball?
Did the 9 skid or just hit it a little off?
(Looked a little funny...)
both
Poor guy, he deserved to win 😢
No he didn't he may never get over this.
I hate see happen like that..ohh well all ways next time 😅
Why did Shane give the other guy cash? Maybe Shane spotted some games? Or the guy set up the match up?
He gave change
It was other way around, Dan gave Shane money
After SVB made it 1-0, Afriat broke, made 2 balls on the break but SVB shot. Why ?
I noticed that too . Maybe a non-compliant break .
I don't understand why on the second break the kid made ball then shane shot
Choked on the match ball, lost confidence and hit it too soft.
Are they in a bowling alley? Sounds exactly like it
That’s too bad you could tell the kid was nervous and really trying. Few of those stupid mistakes you learn fast.
How much money is for this round's winner?
Did I see that ??? Did SVB have a bet and just got paid ? At 55:37 in video
sure looks that way.
@@snuuker892 So I did see it. Wonder what Matchroom has to say about it ?
@@gerarddresch712 who cares?
@@garbygarb31 Just funny with matchroom and others saying it so bad
No they don’t, it’s the foundation of pool
Was it not a legal break or something in rack 5? Dan made a ball on break and Shane got up a shot. Not a legal break?
100! 150 too much!
Why is Dan passing his turn after he makes a ball on the break then if SVB doesn't make a ball on the break he still shoots? What rules are in play??
Hi, thanks for the encouragement! I'm Dan Afriat, to everyone confused, the tournament played the following day had the 3 point rule break, just like in the Mosconi cup.. Thanks again for the good words! 😊
@Dan_Afriat ahh ok, that makes total sense. Nice shooting. I look foward to your progression and hope to see you someday in the mosconi cup. I've seen many players in my days shooting stick and you possess something most don't. Keep it up!
@@Dan_Afriat great shooting you'll jbe a champion (world)!
I'm confused. When Dan broke, balls fell, but then SVB would come up to the table and shoot. Someone help me understand what is going on.
It happened more than once too, thought I was going mad...thanks for confirming that 👍 I'm too lazy to pan backwards through the whole clip to find it 😂
I think 2 balls have to pass the head string for it to be a legal break... something like that. Otherwise play switches to opponent.
It’s called the 3-point rule. A total of three balls have to either be pocketed or go up past the headstring or it’s an illegal break. The purpose it to make players break forcefully.
What did Dan ask before lagging?
if the 2 ball goes in the back of the rack
The definition of “dogging it”
Dan! lol.. tuck your shirt into the Netherlands some more . . .
2:31 Breaks 2 balls in. The Shane comes up and shoots? WTF. He was supposed to at least push out
They're playing 3 point rule and he wasn't meeting the requirements on the break
4/9 balls look yellow. Very hard to follow along.
23:09 Dan made 2 balls on the break but then SVB got the table. Why?
3point rule. Three balls either made or beyond the headstring on the break. He made two balls on the break but no other ball crossed the headstring. That’s an illegal break so your opponent has choice of play or hand it back to you.
OMG
Thriller if this was an actual match, sure. Probably not so much since this was a practice match.
Well u look at it from one way… for Dan this might ve been the peak of his career
He gave him money at the end
if we knew the score.... would help
shot clock
They played for 150?
5TH rack, Dan broke em an made the 6 an another 1 but Shane got to shoot.... what's up with that...
Three points rule
legend has it... that guy didn't k**l himself... me? ... i don't listen to nonsense

Dan said: XCRE&%$#
Shane thought: what the fxxx you are talking about??
See, doesn’t have to take all day.
He missed similar shots earlier in the match. Obviously this was for the win. The bigger battle is getting those demon’s in between the ears to stop talking to you before taking that last shot. Another reason why every ball on the table must be pocketed. Sometime you see guys playing for money and with 2 or 3 balls on the table they’ll give the opponent the game.
Is there some reason these pool broadcasts are accompanied by the worst droning thumping music. Does anyone like it? I am forced to turn off volume. Happens too often.
Copyright
I idea what
‘Copyright “ has to do with this. Are you saying that this machine generated repetitive noise is copyrighted in such a way it requires you to include it with a pool game broadcast. Nope, not buying it.
Watching Dan Afriat shoot pool is like watching grass grow.... He needs a shot clock!
That's what I said to myself! Shot clock please!
No way! keep that crap out of the game.whats wrong with seeing a little character in the game.z shot efren made would never have been a thought with a shot clock. Watched Corey Duel walk around table for 20min. Playing one pocket and finally just taps cue ball and takes a foul but he looked at all options and there were none.
@@hustlinao1488, you can't compare 1 pocket with 8,9 & 10. Chess and checkers. Efren would have made is Z shot, but quicker because he's a *Genius.* If the sport of billiards is to grow, attract more sponsors and money, they can't let people like Dan walk around a table for 3 minutes when the shot is obvious. Also, the two biggest games in pool: Mosconi Cup and Derby City have shot clocks.
I watch pool on my iPad. Then I can double tap 10 seconds ahead until I see something has happened, then back 10 seconds to watch the shot. That way I don’t have to watch all the standing around.
I think slow play is a real problem in LOTS of sports, pool included. I watched a match the other night with Josh Filler and a guy I don’t know named “Ragnar,” and they both played briskly. They weren’t rushing, they just got to it, only taking time when they really needed to. It was such a pleasure compared to watching most players today.
Agreed@@mikethebeginner. Spectators will not pay to be lulled to sleep by slow play! Most of the top players get to it on obvious shots. If your opponent locked you up with a good safe, I get it, but Dan walks around the table on obvious, easy shots.
50:00 who's the loud mouth in the background?
I thought the same thing. And yapping all through the hill-hill game while Dan was shooting. If I were in his place,I'd have set my cue down on the table and walked over to stare the asshole down. If he asked what I was doing I'd have said "Your phone call is apparently more important than my match, so I just HAD to know what it was about ." Embarrass the jerk !!
How come he didn't get all nasty and hateful, being a regular Earl?
He was nervous and choked cause he was about to beat the world champ
If he knew how stupid he looks walking all the way around the table
He knew it when he hit it. Poor guy, he deserved it. Unfortunately, that's all it takes
Missed that ball purposely.
kid got a kick on that ball. that part of the game sucks
Painful to watch. The young man is very good but why does he have to walk around the whole table every shot.
That kind of tilted me too
2 reasons 1- he is active burns energy settles himself 2-walking all around put the table in perspective and helps some with position play
@@ronaldmeeks4653 that would annoy the shit out of me. Lol
Respectfully, Shane must be asleep, this long for a race to 7, sorry cant do it
Good player but damn does he play slow.

Oh wow they cut it off at 7-6. Horrible
tournament so boring when theirs no time limit...
This was not a tournament
That guy is a nervous freak... Calling this a "thriller" is bullshit.
Will have to throw his underwear away, too much shit to wash out 😂😂
Does anyone else feel like Dan was sharking almost the whole match? Standing around the table when it wasn’t his shot instead of sitting down. Talking to Shane and going up to the table when it wasn’t his shot.
No skid - he caught it thick.
Study long, study wrong. Some shots are rather basic and walking around the table frantically looking at all the angles just causes anxiety.
