There comes a time in every artist’s progression where they reach beyond mastery and reach the soul of the listeners. It is a divine gift and experience. Smt Jayanthi Kumaresh is blessed and in more than 60 years of listening, this ragam rendition is one of the very best. Words are inadequate to express the gratitude. Thank you.

Beautiful. There's little wonder this raga is loved by Shiva. This used to be played most eloquently by Shrimati Veena G Visalskshi, my veena guru, at Rishi Valley, and a disciple of Vizianagaram Venkataramana Das. 🙏

Showing a glimpse of "Chakkani Raja" during Alapana is an elevating experience. Like a "Thenjupona (தேஞ்சுபோன) record" let me reiterate again. There is no other instrument other than Veena in the world that can capture all the nuances of the gamakas of a classical raga like Kharaharapriya (for that matter all Carnatic ragas). It requires an eminent artist to bring out the classicism of the raga. Magic happens only when the artist surrenders to the music and allow the divine channel to flow through him/her. One can feel such magic unfolding while listening to this rendition by Jayanthi akka. The music stands out and the artist dissolves in the hands of music.

+Ravikumar You are so right. Veena alone resembles the human voice most, and therefore can show all the potentialities of the human voice. 30 years ago Dr.Vidya Shankar gave a talk on this subject in Music Academy, then Madras. It is not for nothing that Sri Tyagaraja sang "Veda janita vara veena".
      This RTP is so nice.

  • @krishnamurthynarasipur2556

One of the finest alaapanas of Kharaharapriya ever heard. Rich in manobhava and perfect in execution with her unparalleled mastery over the instrument Jayanthi made our listening experience absolutely devine. An unconventional format of the pallavi and its appeal are perhaps debatable which is better avoided in view of the overall impact of the Raga.
