  • Ken Scott of Provectus Group shares four rules for safe firearms handling and explains the importance of each.
    • Treat ALL firearms as if they were loaded.
    • Always keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction.
    • Keep your trigger finger outside the guard and off of the trigger until you are ready to fire.
    • Be certain of your target, your line of fire, and what lies beyond your target.

Nice quick video. Yes there are additional details, but I have newer shooters watch this so as not to inundate their heads with too much information before going to the range for the first time. I'm usually standing by them too in order to ensure they're shooting safely.

A fellow showed me his older Beretta. As soon as I picked it up, I asked if it was OK to clear it, then cleared it (ejected the magazine and chambered round). Safety first!

Without correct adult supervision when that adult believes that they are ready, proper gun safety learned young helps drill those rules into their brains later

My understanding is to treat a just picked up or handed to you semi-auto firearm as if always loaded requires a visual open chamber and a digital mag channel check. Better chamber check is to look, then quick look away over strong arm shoulder, then look back at open chamber to check again.

    • @billcampbell9886
      @billcampbell9886 Před 4 lety

All firearms should always be treated as if they are loaded, not just semi-automatic firearm. Even when you know the firearm is not loaded, you should treat it as if it is loaded. This helps to create better habits for handling firearms when they actually are loaded.

There is a lot more detail behind all of this, but if you can strictly follow these basic rules, you have a good chance of not hurting yourself or anyone else while shooting or handling a weapon. A very high, double-digit percentage of gun accidents are due to one of these rules being broken.

    Rules should be as follows:
    1) Always treat every gun as if it is loaded (even when you know it isn't)!
a] Always keep firearms pointed in a safe direction*/never pointing a firearm at anything/anyone you are not willing to kill/destroy.
b] Always keep your finger off the trigger until target is acquired and you are ready to shoot (even when dry firing).
c] Always know your target and what is behind it.
    2) If you are going to play with or dry fire your gun be sure it is unload first, and keep in mind that all of the above rules still apply 100% of the time!
    3) All guns, not in use or on standby** (e.g. - defense weapons at the ready), should be kept unloaded, keeping in mind Rule 1) a-c] still applies 100% of the time, no matter what!
    Footnotes:
*1) a] - at gun ranges the only safe direction is down range.
**3) It is very important that all firearms at gun ranges on stand-by should still be kept unloaded and pointed down range.

Great beginning but hard to follow the series. As with most CZcams stuff, after you watch the video CZcams "suggests" other videos. Is there a way to see all of the content (group of videos) and keep them grouped together? Also, I agree with the comments below, more detail should be presented. Suggest using this as an intro then extend the video into a details regarding each rule. For example, point the gun in a safe direction is not always the same direction. What if you are standing on concrete? Would you still point the gun down as shown in the video? What is a safe direction at an indoor range? When can you point the gun in an unsafe direction? For example, it may be necessary when you are putting it away for the barrel to point in a direction that is not typically safe. Weapon should be open and clear. Also, these same rules apply to rifles. I am currently teaching my 10 year old grandson and 8 year old granddaughter to shoot a 22 MAG when they visit. We always review safety before shooting.

This S&W MP9 M2.0 has a beautiful print, I sincerely hope that Smith & Wesson, put a good representation here in Brazil! Here we only have GLOCK and SIG SAUER to compete with it in which of the two sells more expensive. With an S&W representation here we would have a North American product of unquestionable quality and total acceptance by us weapons experts! This is what we lack.
The biggest problem for us here in Brazil with imports are the licenses and altorisaões! In theory at fixed rates, but in practice the remnant of the last years of the SOCIALIST and COMMUNIST federal government here in Brazil, left us with a civil service at the level of state departments that only operate on the basis of "PROPINA" CORRUPTION. We have to pay in addition to the service and import fees so that our firearms acquisition and registration processes can be deferred! We have a serious problem here with these SOCIALIST and COMMUNIST people in the public departments. If a company like S&W makes available a more objective representation, the acquisition of its products becomes more viable in our country! Smith & Wesson,
Thanks for your attention; I hope you will represent us there with S&W if it suits you!

I believe that anyone must pass a non deceitful or non fabricated psychological test, before possession of any type of firearm, because no one knows whether any individual is capable of committing an act of carnage. History proves my point with all the shootings that have been happening around the United States of North America and it's Sovernity nations that have reported such incidents. Most of these recent shootings are associated with misbehavior of psychological mindsets either via drugs or mental stability. What I seem to not understand is: How can the military spot a sick mind but regular doctors can not? Is the United State of Nor6h American and State: Congress And Senate representatives, showing non care for its citizens and allowing crooks to take over the streets?
