Great music, bad controls. Was hard to move and it wouldn't register the mouse clicks every time, had to hold down for a while before it understood. I easily got stuck when moving around as there's no proper pathfinding system.
More than one version exist. This is Operation Stealth (will call it "OS" ) version 4.0. A 3.6 also exist but chose the 4.0 of course as newer is usually better. Then we have yet another version with a different title - James Bond: The Stealth Affair (will call it "JB" ), that one is only 3.6 but seems to be the superior version. I followed a longplay of the JB version and I saw all the differences between OS and JB. They are the same game, but the JB version has another title, the hero has a different name, some of the dialogues has been changed to the better, some EXTRA dialogues has been added. Things just makes more sense in the JB version.
I read JB is the US release and they changed the title and name of the hero to better match the game, so it was more a James Bond thing. I'm glad they changed many other things too (mentioned some above). Here are some differences:
    OS text example:
    A: "Ok!Take it."
    B: "A rescue canoe...."
C: "Ok! You pick the razor out of the garbage." (no I didn't, I put in IN there, dammit!)
    JB text example:
    A: "OK! You take it."
    B: "An inflatable life raft."
C: "OK! You put the razor in the garbage." (JB version got it right. Donno how the OS version could have gotten it so wrong)
The text in OS is poorly written in a lot of places. Often no space where there should be, tons of periods, weird names for things, etc. The JB version has fixed a lot of them, but still left many.
Also, the OS version has FOUR action levels for each action part, while JB only had two for each part. So, OS is a much harder game as these action parts are so annoying.
The two small text bubbles after the "insert CD" one at the end was skipped too fast. I had to do that because the timer is ticking even if everything looked paused while the text bubbles are visible, that's pretty lame. One would think you got all the time in the world to read the dialogues, but nope... take too long and you die. Wonder what the differences are between 3.6 and 4.0. So far, JB 3.6 is better than OS 4.0.
Like I said before, I like the music. I was thinking of adding them at the end, same with some of the death scenes, but decided to do that in my next longplay, as that one will be the JB version and will use the game's speech thingy. Decided to not use speech in this one as it sucks, so will in the other one instead.
Edit: instead of modifying my above description (too lazy) I'll type this here. Turns out ONE more version exist, it's the 3.7 and it's that one that has speech, but only OS has that version. 3.7 turned out to be unstable and liked to crash, so they released the 4.0 without speech. Weird they would release a new one without speech when there already was 3.6 without speech. I wonder what other changes they might have made between 3.7 and 4.0. JB 3.6 is still the best version in my opinion. So, as JB doesn't have speech, I won't record it, will do a completely different game for the next longplay instead. -

I never managed to complete this as I got stuck on the rat maze. So glad after all these years I can see what finally happened.

sunteam That's one of the reasons longplays are awesome :) Some others: works as a walkthrough in case you get stuck in a game, you can check if a game seems interesting by watching a bit of a video before buying, no need to play them and just instead watch someone else do it.

I love this game, I played a lot with it a long time ago. Its musics are wonderful. It would be superb if a remake was made.

The art style and color palette is so very Delphine. Especially the parts "downtown". I love it.
Don't love the game though. Pretty bad "puzzles", and those mazes are horrible.. Only made to pad out the length, just like the water scooter parts.

I would love to make a game where you play as a James Bond kinda guy in a setting like in Leisure Suit Larry 2. A good adventure game where there's no fail state with some spy undertone in a nice place... Idunno...

Had no idea there were so many versions, I wonder if it also applies to the game in french or only to English translations.

    • @iamironclaw
      @iamironclaw Před 9 lety

Cyrillo Baggins The Amiga has sooo many different versions of a lot of adventure games. Like the Space Quest, King's Quest, and Larry games, Police Quest, etc. (not just Sierra one, but also Delphine Software like this game). Noticed that even more when I did a MT32 video of all games that could have it: www.iamironclaw.com/modules/weblog/details.php?blog_id=3

This game has some serious logic flaws in it. I've just tried to play it again for the first time in years and escaped from the cave and then went to buy the inflatable bracelet from the guy on the beach but I had no money in my inventory, even though I did in an earlier part of the game. I now realise from watching this video that you have to ask the bank teller to change your notes into coins TWICE or you won't be able to do it later in the game because it's removed from your inventory. That's ridiculously dumb and the game shouldn't let you continue for so long if it means playing into a dead end where there's no way out. All they needed to do was leave the bank notes in the inventory after escaping from the cave so you could change it with the bank teller then and be able to buy the bracelet.
I bet it's not the only logic flaw / bug in the game either. A nice game in many ways which is spoiled by poor design.

OMG this music is horrible, it sounds like an old computer's booting sounds!
And it doesn't match the scenes
And the graphisms are rough just look the guy's face 0:18 and compare to drawing in the end 1:29:29 it's supposed to show the hero, but clearly it's not the same person! O__o
There're lots lots of details which look horrible!: 1:20:01 look at the guy pants, and how the clothes are setted on him oh wow the programmers should have changed the designer
The same thing for animation: 1:19:30 really she's shaking her ass will walking, her legs are moving from left to right like they were dislocated
