Yeah. The people complaining that JHope didn't get as many bars on his own song are completely missing the point of the collaboration. Cole didn't phone in his verses and showed JHope a lot of respect by doing so much on the song. J Cole obviously put a lot of thought and work into his part.

What an enjoyable reaction. Love it when you went back to the beginning to listen to the song again.
When the teaser revealed that J. Cole would be on the track, I literally got tears in my eyes, knowing how much Hobi idolizes him. This is the thing with BTS. A song is never just a song. We often know what goes on behind the scenes, either beforehand or after (like "Outro: Tear").
From BTS's remake of J. Cole's "Born Sinner", to Hobi giving him a shout-out in "Hip Hop Phile", to Hobi finally meeting J. Cole at Lollapalooza (which we hoped would happen ever since we saw the line up for the festival) and how excited he was, to now this song.
And that's just the J. Cole aspect of the song. There's Hobi going back to his dancing roots and, of course, him going to the military soon and this is a goodbye-for-now song.

I really enjoy your commentary! J-Hope is using a lot of intentional symbolism in this video (the side street and intersection from what I understand is inspired by an early J.Cole video, the subway corresponds with JColes bars and the subway stop that inspired Jay Zs moniker, the journey through the streets, through the underground and to the pinnacle (rooftop) where he can finally meet up with his inspiration. He started as an underground hip hop street dancer (thus the underground scene) inspired by the Culture, and has always claimed JCole as a Muse and major inspiration...that's why he gave him 32 bars and danced while he rapped...he came full circle while also leaving this gift for his fans and paying homage to HIS OWN IDOL. Yep, that's "1-Verse" J-Hope. Since J-Cole is his inspiration, i.e. an idol's idol, Hobi gave Jermaine his space, his moment to shine & more bars for his verse-atility, while Hobi sets the tone for the underlying foundation of the song, not just with the cyclical "Everytime..." lyrics, but also with his street dance. Hopefully more collabs with Cole after conscription is over.

@@heathermurray7130 everywhere I’m going to suggest I would say is a a little pricey. Really all of socal is pricey. Marina del Rey is beautiful did my first ever show in a small club there so I could be biased fyi. But objectively it’s beautiful. You have manhattan beach as well.
Glendal, Burbank and West Hollywood are very good tourist spots glendal not so much nothing really to do there.
Venice is nice but the homeless population and every person ever that wanted to come to Cali keeps this place full but it a fun. A lot of shops for souvenirs and snacks and local food. But it is priced up as it’s prime beach from material. If you go on Sundays they have a drum circle that is pretty class if that’s your thing.
Santa Monica is beautiful with the same set up as Venice just way more affluent surroundings. All of these places if you stay in them or any city that isn’t inglewood. You will need to allot for 2-3 hours of travel just in case there’s traffic and it’s LA so there will be traffic. You don’t want to miss anything Because you tight travel to the place was under 15mi so you thought you had time. I’m telling you now if you get where you want early that will forever be better than arriving late.
These are the best cities I can think of. If I had my pick I’d stay West Hollywood or Burbank. Both of which are close to both beaches plus they are swamped with movie studios you can tour and or tourists attractions and great food.
If you have the time though go to the San Fernando valley and go to dagless or beeps. King taco and In n out are all hype same with pinks hot dogs.
I think this should suffice but if you have follow up feel free to reach out.

Hobi’s verse in #on_the_street is deeper than many people think.
First, you have to know that the child in the mv is hobi. the kid is wearing Air Jordan 11s. Theyre the same pair Hobi owns now.
Air Jordans are also known as J’s so “J in the Air” is a play on the shoes.
Air Jordan’s (J’s) are significant bc j.cole mentions the shoes in his song “higher.”
Meeting j.cole at lolla, hobi mentioned to him that he loves his mixtape Friday Night Lights, especially Higher & Hobi found a genius way to add it into the lyrics and MV.
The child is wearing almost the same outfit as j.cole wears in the MV. This represents how much hobi idolized j.cole and found inspiration in him when he was young.
At the start, you see j-hope help kid-hobi put his earphones on, pat his head, shake his hand, and wave to him as they both set off walking down their paths. It’s almost feels like he was comforting and assuring his younger self.
Hobi’s verse starts “My two feet walk willingly, anywhere. J in the air”
Hobi sets off on a life path that leads him to his destination “j in the air”, represented at the end by him and jcole on the roof. This is where “J in the air” takes on another meaning.
He’s playing with the fact that they’re both J’s and they’re “in the air” now.
He gave us a hint at his lolla performance “you can call me J”
(also, “j in the air” is also a reference to his song Airplane which is about j-hope finding his success after so many hard trials.)
“For the path I’m on to become one of hope, I give my all. Even my walk was made of Your love and your faith.”
He’s talking about how he worked so hard and made many sacrifices to make sure that the path he willingly chose to follow, became successful.
he tells us that it’s bc of our love and faith that all his hard work came to fruition and is what made this path possible.
“To repay you even from afar, just like a butterfly”
He references BTS’s song Butterfly in this line.
His verse:“like a wind that gently strokes me, like a dust that gently drifts along, Youre there but for some reason, I cant reach you”
bc hes leaving for a while, he wishes to give this song as his message for us to always have & to comfort us while hes unable to be with us.
“Now, just walk lightly, whenever you want
Go on hopefully, wherever you walk
In these streets imbued with someones breath
I leave my soul and my eternity
    Everywhere (I’ll be)”
No matter what path we chose, he wants to always be with us to be our piece of peace.
“Every time I walk, Every time I run
Every time I move, As always, for us
Every time I look, Every time I love
Every time I hope, As always, for us”
He goes through the mv walking on his path. It shows him as a kid that was inspired by j.cole to him working hard throughout his youth practicing his love of street dance, to eventually climbing up from the bottom to finally reach his destination at the top where he meets and shakes the hand of the man who inspired him from the start.

I love this reaction!!!! I got so emotional over this song. I can’t even put that all on the music, because I know it’s everything surrounding it as well. I’m so glad you understand how much it means to J-Hope and all of us. Thanks for that 🙏 And I agree Cole really killed this. The mutual respect: J-Hope giving him this much space, and J. Cole putting in this much effort? 😭
Two anecdotes from today: during the streaming party Hobi told us that when they met to film the mv, Cole told him the song was fire and he got so excited. He also said he got goosebumps when Cole said his name on the track (as you expected). There is also a clip out there that Jimin posted where he reacts to that part “J-Hope - Cole World” and he is just giggling and so obviously excited for Hobi. My heart. I love the vibe of the song, I think it’s just perfect to take comfort from. So happy for J-Hope.
You will see hobi and coles first meeting if you ever - after watching hobipalooza - watch the documentary for Jack In The Box on Disney (called “j-hope in the box”). It was just released in February and it has their first meeting backstage in it, which is what later led to this collab.
Sorry long comment is long 🙈

Yes it's not like Bad Decisions they did with Snoop... Uncle Snoop just hopped on the track to get his check, I mean it has the unique commercial Snoop Dogg vibe but I was quite disappointed!
Cole really really came through on this one though and Hobi and I think every ARMY felt the goosebumps when said hope's name at the end of the verse!! 🤧
To me the last bars "the more I eat, the more it gets stronger" actually the fact that he leaves up spaces emphasizes on his message!
Cole's fans know that he might want to retire soon and the last part of his verse talks about it:
*like a father... at the alter..., you gotta let her grow (... pause... ) AND SO I SHALL
So he's confirming that he won't let go but let his artistry grow and there will be a shift but first he's gotta eat the top 10 like a buffet and the more he eats the more his hunger gets stronger (pause) the more it gets stronger (pause) I SAID the more it gets stronger...
So he's making a point for his fans, he's not done yet and he's cooking.
I think the pauses were genuis and very impactful.
Anyways it's an instant classic for me!!
And it's Hobi's last track for the next 2 years so I'm gonna cherish it!! 🥲
    Thx for the reaction💜

Get to get to know more about Jhope and some fun facts:
Fun Facts for those who don't know (I got this from another ARMY)
J.Cole is j-Hopes biggest influence/inspiration and muse. JHopes album "HOPE WORLD" is a play on J.Coles first album "Cole World". The BTS song "Born Singer" is also a play on J.Coles song "Born Sinner". The Avirex fit jhope is wearing is also homage to J.Cole. The street jhope was on at the beginning is the SAME EXACT street J.Cole filmed his "SIMBA" music video on. And jhope dancing during Coles verse is because jhope before BTS used to dance to J.Cole songs back in the day.. The visual easter eggs and homage paid to J.Cole in this by jhope is insane. Shows his genuine love for a GOAT like J.Cole.
    Now my knowledge and interpretation:
Jhope was a street dancer before he joined BTS.
In Hip Pop Phile by BTS during Jhope's verse he said, "Hope hope world, before I built my own world, there was Cole world | When he lit up Friday night, |I became more inspired to write my own music". I am so glad that he was able to collab with one of his role models or someone that has inspired him.
This is song is so beautiful. This is his gift to ARMY before he has to leave for mandatory military service.
Many people think the song kind of felt more like a JCole song, which I understand, but Jhope said before this was announced that he was "going back to the streets". So, I think that was the point. He is dancing more because that is what he did in the streets before BTS while listening to people like JCole. Now that Jhope has made it in his career his is able to meet/collab his muse. The music video shows Jhope's journey. At least that is my interpretation.
I interpret the little boy two different ways. 1. being ARMY 2. himself in the past

Why we love your long videos? It means the music isn't simple and that it stands for something. The reason I fell in love with BTS and Jermaine is they are deep and poetical. Cole took a pause to grow just like my guy Shakespeare did, "Must give us pause".

So so glad to hear that your voice is getting better. Good to see you're taking care of your money-maker. I cackled so much at you demanding that they cuddle was such an ARMY thing to say. Trust us, we know what it sounds like when an elder in the game jumps on a track and just pops a squat on the record. See: Snoop on "Bad Decisions". I mean it was a fun and playful song so no one was expecting anything deep but damn it he really did a kindergarden level rap by numbers on that. Still bitter about it.
This was a solid collab though. I'm beyond happy with how it turned out. J. Cole put his foot in and I'm grateful for the effort because I know how much this means to Hobi to have this full circle moment. I was ecstatic to watch Hobi's documentary and see him meeting with J. Cole for the first time so I was even happier to hear about this collab. It's so cool that the BTS members are all getting to work with the people who they either grew up listening to or who helped inspire them to start doing what they love. RM and Tablo (maybe RM and Pharrell soon), Jin and Coldplay, Jimin and Taeyang, Suga and Taeyang and Tablo, J-Hope and J. Cole. Interestingly enough, I'm not sure who V and Jungkook's childhood heroes were musically so I can't guess with them the way I could with the others. I'm curious to see if they continue the trend. It's such a great idea to take the fame and status that they gained in Chapter 1 and use the connections that gave them to live out their debut dreams of collabing with their heros and an intro to Chapter 2. They were right that "the best is yet to come".

    • @AJP.OT7
      @AJP.OT7 Před rokem +4

Yeah, I agree about Snoop Dog and Bad Decisions. I did hear that Paul Blanco wrote the lyrics but still Snoop Dog should have cared more and said something. I think maybe people don't realize that majority of ARMY actually like rap and understand when something is simple or whatever.

@Hobi's Heavy Breathing Oh that would be two entirely different songs but could be equally beautiful. I'd love to hear a JK and IU track. An Ariana song would be a vibe too. It would be awesome if he could get both. As always out mysterious V may just surprise us with whoever he chooses...if he chooses someone. He may decide to go full solo no collabs for his album. I still want a V and Agust D track though

Another great reaction! One of my favorite aspects of the video is J-hope dancing on the subway platform during J-Cole’s verse (symbolic of J-hope start as a dancer freestyling to J-Cole’s music). A lot of people comment on how J-hope does have as many bars, but I think him dancing to J-Cole’s verse is almost like visual bars in a way. I don’t know if it’s true or not, but I saw an ARMY comment that the number of J-Cole’s bars is the same number of months of J-Hope’s upcoming military service. Again, not sure if that’s true, but it would be a very BTS type of thing to do.

Your very last thoughts on the song made me tear up because what you were saying is so true, I can't express how much I agree with you. J Cole delivered exactly what Jhope wanted, his idol, exactly why he looked up to him. He gave him his flowers, he gave him the spotlight despite this possibly being the last track before he leaves, it's bold, but just goes to show how much trust he put in his idol, and in the fandom. This music video and song hit me so hard, coz hobi really gave j.cole his flowers and recognized his own roots. the K-music industry and other music industries are built on black music, but black artists hardly get recognition for it. jhope gave j.cole the room to breathe on this track (more than hobi himself tbh). and the music video showed hobi dancing to j.cole's verse, coz thats how hobi started. hobi danced to j.cole back in the day and his love for dance and music grew because of it. i just think this song is so special man. so much homage was payed beautifully. such a good collaboration

Jhope has said ad nauseum that J Cole is his favorite rapper. He used to dance to Cole's music when he was a street dancer before BTS. He wanted to "return to his roots" of dancing to Cole, hence the mad respect of giving Cole 32 bars on his own track and just vibing and dancing. :) I also loved seeing Jimin in his live being so excited when he heard Cold say "J-Hope". Waited for this reaction as well. I know this is not rap but there is a story that Marsha Ambrosius(Floetry) tells about here interaction with Michael Jackson on the song Butterfly. She tells how even though she wrote the song, she was afraid to direct him on how to sing the song. He told her to just direct him, tell him what to do and he'll sing it. The song turned out great because she realized he wanted to see if she had the chops. I have listened to the JCole collabs and, some of them were scared to direct him so they gave him what they thought he wanted. I'm sure he had some input, but it was their opportunity to show their talent and often they dropped the ball. JHope did not drop the ball.
