    Nithyasri is an wonderful singer and one of my favourites. A singer who could move into upper octaves effortlessly, it is a pleasure listening to her songs. Hence I felt that her entry into film music is a badly timed move and it has definitely lowered her image. If she is going to sing songs only for popularity and mass appeal, she would definitely lose genuine music lovers. Pl keep off cinema music!

    We cannot asses that once a Classical singer sings in Movies it lowers her or his image, M S Subbulakshmi, D K Pattammal, G N Balasubramaniam, Bombay Jayshri, Sudha Raghunathan like many of our legendary Carnatic singers made hits in film music, even few of them acted in movies, which never brought down their knowledge or quality in their singing. Not here for an argument, just expressing my humble thought.

      Totally agree. I don't agree with this elitist classification of music as "genuine" and "non-genuine" music. Music is music. Nithyasree is only proving her versatility by singing different genres in film music. It's absurd and puritanical to insist she sings only Carnatic.

    Yes, she is a wonderful singer with years of dedication behind her brilliant performances. Unfortunately, even she has fallen prey to the likes of Rahman. Money and bad taste has immense drawing power and few can resist the pull of loud, gaudy, jumpy, populist type of film music which brings in loads of hard cash and everyone wants a share of it!

    Cogent responses(with my limited comprehension of tamil - even though I am supposedly a tamilian). Echoing sentiments from others - descendant of DK Amma and Palghat Mani calling AR Rehman - sir is a liitle unpalatable. Sorry...

  • @balumuthu1
    @balumuthu1 Před 11 lety +3

    Plainly, with his entry made spectacular by a few good songs which must have made a demand on some hard work AND creative composing skills, Rahman set a deplorable trend in film music which also adversely affected Hindi film music which had been a great inspiration to Tamil/ S Indian music. Before that inspiration, several pure Carnatic music composers had won the hearts of film goers in the South. A few C musicians lured by extra bucks by singing low class film fare, can't uplift film msuic.

    Fact is good taste has been totally destroyed much more rapidly in film music. Only consolation is this is an all India trend. Combination of reasons, particularly absence of knowledgeable music composers and orchestra professionals, people without ANY sociial sense and commitment as directors, producers, lyricists. And this guy interviewing almost wanted this kind of "music' for training kids in music! Stupid.

    She sings in movies only for money and fame among cheap cine followers. What a legacy DKP and Palghat mani iyer. Though DKP ofcourse the first musician (classical) to sing in films,but stuck to classism. But Nityasree cannot be said so. What a shame ! - she sang some cheap kuthu pattu like kumbakonam santhayile- Shame for carnatic music-Vettkakedu ivarin badhil kooda -V.S.SIVARAMAN, 72, Hyderabad.
