  • At the console of the Yamaha ELX-1, Bob Ralston, the organist and pianist on the Lawrence Welk Show, plays a medley of 15 songs from the 1940s. Arranging music is one of Bob's specialties; not only played on the Welk Show but often arranged numbers. He has an MA in music. What makes this selection so unique is the intro. He weaves together in a seamless montage bits and pieces of several of the songs before playing the first. The registration and key changes make this medley a tribute to Bob's acumen. What you are hearing is a live performance - no overdubbing or remixing. Here's the challenge: see how many of the songs you can name before the title appears. Enjoy another amazing performance on an instrument that is three decades old. (Yes, I know the first title slide is wrong, but it is the 40s.) I goofed.

My memory is that the tempo he normally used to play this medley was a tad faster and with a few different stops too. But this is a nice capture of a specific time. Nice montage, thank you.

Could be when he played in person, but this is from the ELX-1 disk that he programmed.
