- Back in the 80’s and 90’s, the meres of Shropshire were at the forefront of the carp angling world, with some truly wonderful specimens swimming in their depths. Stocked with the old Leney strain, amongst others, Birch Grove was one of the most popular and documented, thanks to the efforts of Tim Paisley. In recent years, it has been pushed to one side, in favour of the modern gravel pit scene, but could there be some special fish still swimming in the silty, lily clad angler’s paradise?
Having grown up in the north, fishing the famous Cheshire meres, we tasked Gaz Fareham to pit his wits against Birch Grove. With some specimens approaching 50 years old still present in the tricky, intimate mere, it certainly wasn’t a task for the faint hearted!

Gas fareham has to be amongst my favourite anglers, so good at what he does yet so very humble, not many left in game like that now so thank you!
Done Nick and Gaz, just greatness 👍🏻 catch one wild one from the canal or five from the mere, these guys bring it to life. TA such a great line up of sponsored anglers.
Your kind words are much appreciated, Paul! Thanks!
I can remember reading Tim Paisley’s books, and it was a driving force to keep us going on our own winter trips. And as others have said Gaz is a great bloke never met him, but really enjoy his videos.
Enjoyed that - thank you

Lovely place, I was fortunate enough to fish there in the early nineties with Youngy and Doug Taggart, had my first English 30 common at 32lb along with 6 mid 20 mirrors on one week session. What a wonderful and majestic water, great vlog Gaz.

Fondly remember my week on Birch, October, Early 90s, with some southern friends. None of us did well, I certainly blanked it, and probably didn’t fish it well. Lovely to see Gaz with those fish, it surely is a lovely place.
So much history in that place, glad you enjoyed the film!
Stunning historical venue long way from home but well worth the journey Gareth rewarded with the captures of some of the venue's residents . Superb footage thanks for sharing this session as I expected knew would be worth waiting for look forward to your next video
Thanks Micheal, glad you enjoyed it!
Lovely looking lake!
It is fantastic isn't it!
What a legend what a venue
Brilliant 👏🏻
Thanks, Jon!
Amazing fish
Brilliant 👏
Thanks!
Fantastic video
Thanks! 😃
Shows us the thinking anglers C-Clip lead setup but later in the video at 32.39 he is using the Korda heli-safes on all 3 rods. Would like you to show us what you are using regardless of the company that makes the video. Yes, this film was made by Thinking Anglers but if Gaz is going to choose to use a different brand, it would be nice to know why. Great film nonetheless.
Fabulous video
Thanks for the kind words, John!
Cheers Gareth
You are the boy gaz
Nice
👍🎣🤝
Well.done gaz
Good skills
Great vid as usual May I ask what rods you are using please.?.
Great video lovely to see Birch Grove, what’s the make of your hoody Gareth
Fleece
Got the thickest beard of any man alive 😂
Do you need to cut the swivel of your led using the c clip method?
Yes I do to make a heli lead
Mega....
Idyllic settings, love it. What throwing stick is Gaz using?
It's the fox carbon stick, very similar to the ridge monkey
It certainly was idyllic!
Do you use the heli leds with c clip or is a dumpy led ok?
You can use whatever lead you like. Helicopter leads are probably best, but you can cut the swivel off normal leads if you don't have any. It just makes the setup a bit neater.
Got ask gaz, where u get your zipped hoodie from,,
Mega 🎣
Cheers, Darren!
What net is that? Anyone know?
Whats the track please 35.44...excellent vlog👌
The track is Fire by Saint Mesa, thanks for watching!
Mega bit of filming. Pity their were more adverts than fish!! Blimey, seemed like every 2 minutes
Sorry about that, Lee. The music must not have cleared its license yet, shall rectify it soon! Thanks for watching!
