An Invitation For 'Sunnis' To Understand The Ghadir Khumm Sermon! (1/2) - Sheikh Yasser al-Habib

  • While the narrations in the books of the self-proclaimed 'Sunnis' regarding this sermon are enough to establish Imam Ali's proper status and position, Sheikh Yasser al-Habib takes it a step further and presents the full sermon of Ghadir Khumm from Shia sources, and appeals to the 'Sunnis' to recognise its truthfulness from the speech itself. Just as the Quran can be determined to be true by its speech that surpasses human capability, so can the speech of the Ghadir that was delivered through the tongue of the Prophet (peace be upon him), by those who are sincere.

      Linguistically:
Mawla has many meanings like sayyid, helper, someone you love and aid.
Mawla comes from the word Al walayah, not Al wilayah (Al waliyy) which means leadership. They’re 2 different words.
The proof that the word Mawla doesn’t mean khilafa from the Qur’an - Allah mentions an ayah with the word mawla, mentioning Allah, the believers and the angels:
      ‎فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ هُوَ مَوۡلٰٮهُ وَجِبۡرِيۡلُ وَصَالِحُ الۡمُ
      ‎ؤۡمِنِيۡنَ ۚ وَالۡمَلٰٓـئِكَةُ بَعۡدَ ذٰلِكَ ظَهِيۡرٌ‏
then Allah is his supporter, and Jibra’īl (Gabriel) and righteous believers, and after all that, angels are his helpers.
      (66:4)
According to Shi’a logic; Allah is using the word mawla (مَوۡلٰٮهُ) in this ayah, Allah is a khalifa over the prophet and THEN the angel Jibreel is also khalifa, and then the believers are also khalifas according to Shi’a argument which makes no sense. Therefore, it doesn’t mean leadership.
      Context of Ghadir Khumm:
There was a disagreement over ghaneema (spoils of war) amount between Ali and buraydah ibn husayb, Buraydah disliked Ali for that and complained to the prophet, so the prophet backed Ali and reminded the people about Ali because he knew that later on people will make Takfeer on him and rebel against him I.E the Khawaarij.
At ghadir khumm, the Muslims were returning back to their homes and heading towards medina and the surrounding areas after Hajj. There was only a few hundreds or maybe thousands of Muslims.
If Ali becoming khalifa was so important, the prophet would of announced it in front of all the people at Hajj ,The Farewell Sermon ( خطبة الوداع, Khuṭbatu l-Widāʿ ), where there was around 100,000 Muslims from all over the world like Yemen, Iraq, Sham etc.
Ali refuses khilafa a year after Ghadir Khumm event (Bukhari) and 24 years after (nahjul balagha):
The author of the book Nahj al-Balagha - a reliable source for the Shia, reports that Ali RadiaAllahu Anhu refused to be the Caliph after the martyrdom of Uthman when people gathered around him requesting him to assume the caliphate and besought them to accept their leadership.
“Leave me alone; go in search of somebody else….If you leave me alone I shall be just like you as an ordinary citizen of the Islamic State…As a matter of fact I like to guide you and advise you more than I would wish to rule over you.”

      Hadith in Sahih Bukhari:
      Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Abbas:

'Ali bin Abu Talib came out of the house of the Prophet during his fatal ailment. The people asked ('Ali), "O Abu Hasan! How is the health of Allah's Apostle this morning?" 'Ali said, "This morning he is better, with the grace of Allah." Al-'Abbas held Ali by the hand and said, "Don't you see him (about to die)? By Allah, within three days you will be the slave of the stick (i.e., under the command of another ruler). By Allah, I think that Allah's Apostle will die from his present ailment, for I know the signs of death on the faces of the offspring of 'Abdul Muttalib. So let us go to Allah's Apostle to ask him who will take over the Caliphate. If the authority is given to us, we will know it, and if it is given to somebody else we will request him to recommend us to him. " 'Ali said, "By Allah! If we ask Allah's Apostle for the rulership and he refuses, then the people will never give it to us. Besides, I will never ask Allah's Apostle for it." (See Hadith No 728, Vol 5)

THEREFORE, Ali himself didn’t know he was even supposed to be KHALIFA but SHI’A say he was.

you do know that during the "farewell sermon" is when the prophet mentioned hadeeth althaqlain and the hadeeth about the 12 khalifs so it clearly seems he was building up to announce a successor as both hadeeths relate to figures of guidance to come after him , but go read in your books what happened when he did this. It is narrated that there was too much noise to make out what he was saying, people talking over the prophet and creating a disturbance as if to drown out his voice, as one narrator mentions in the hadeeth of the 12 khalifs that due to the commotion around him he was unable to hear the complete hadeeth as mentioned in the narration . So obviously the prophet saw this and realized he must go to a more neutral place and give a surprise announcement where those that were doing this might feel out of there comfort zone and away from there home town. i ask you do you deem it rational to take thousands of people on another journey after completing haj in the scorching desert to another out of the way area just to squash a beef and announce to everyone that imam ali is his friend? you do know that imam ali is his first cousin whom he raised with his own hands and whom he later married to the master of the women of heaven his beloved daughter fatima.
The even bigger problem with your theory my brother is the amount of times allah and his messenger were making clear to us imam alis status way before ghadeer khum even if we wanted to minimize and dismiss the sermon like you have.
When you have the prophet saying to imam ali you are to me what aaron was to moses except that there is no prophet after me { read in the quran what aaron was to moses}. when you have allah and the prophet choosing imam ali to conquer in khaibar out of everyone when the first two khalifs were unable surely this is a sign is it not? what about taking imam ali as his naffs in the mubahala when he could of taken anyone else? what about the angel gabriel himself intervening when abu bakr was to reveal surat al towbah and didnt permit him to do so, so imam ali was sent instead is this nothing too? what about choosing imam ali out of everyone to marry his daughter who later along with his two sons become the purified people of the keessaa, surely that could of been somebody else if they were worthy could it not? throw in hadeeth al thaqlain when the prophet says he leaves behind 2 weighty things the quran and ahlul bailt and if you hold onto them you shall never go astray and the picture becomes crystal clear as to what the prophet meant in ghadeer khum surely all of these signs and events where imam ali is divinely being chosen over all arent meaningless like the usurpers tried to make you believe
