I guess when they heard "pro wrestling is a license to print money" they took it the wrong way?
You have won the internets.
Yea but it's not.
"Kid, the only thing real in this business is the money and the miles".
Well, at least most of the time.
I'll say it now! It's fuckin great to see Dutch recovered and in good health!!!
GLAD YOU ARE STILL WITH US DUTCH!💛
Windham circa 87-89 was one of if not the best workers in the business.
He was never close to being one of the best. He sucked as a horseman, he sucked as The Widow Maker, and he couldn't cut a promo to save his life. If he hadn't been in the good 'ole boys club during his time in the NWA, fans would've forgotten about him a long time ago.
From 1982-94 he was great...80-81,95-01 he was very good...
@@soslow67 You clearly don't know the difference between working and cutting a promo.
@@iami3rian394 I do know this... Barry Windham couldn't put asses in seats. Had he not been a Windham, he would've been a jobber.
@@soslow67 sounds like you have an axe to grind. Yeah he was not a dynamic promo like his old man, but his in-ring abilities and wrestling psychology was excellent. The chicks loved him. He putt butts in the seat.
That needs to be a Dark Side of the Ring episode about the Windham Family and add more about that counterfeit arrest!!
Yeah but if they did a Darkside, they'd just focus on Bray Wyatt having a heart attack because of the clot shot.
Barry became world champion long after his brother and dad got out of prison, I could tell by the mid 1990s that he wasn't interested in being in the ring anymore and one reason for that was because wrestling was so effortless for him.
He just loved potato chips and ice cream too much
he was also married to a very wealthy land heiress. loved fishing, hunting and boozing.
so i don't know that he ever had the passion for wrestling that lifers like Flair, hogan, savage had
If you can't draw money, you print it.
Then only Kendall should've been arrested, because Bray, Blackjack, and Barry drew 😂
Then only Kendall should've been arrested, because Bray, Blackjack, and Barry drew 😂
Barry drew plenty as face in CWF days...listen to all the girls scream when he enters the building
🏆
I was 13 when Barry returned to the WWF with his Widowmaker Gimmick and loved it, sadly it didn't last long because of his family situation, next thing i knew he was back in WCW when i turned them on
24 months for being caught with $500K in counterfeit $20 bills? my initial question is who did they rat on?
Article I just read, which was dated from 1990, said it was a little over $1 million. It also said they found another million buried at whatever location it was being printed.
I'm sure they snitched on literally everybody to get that kind of a "sweetheart" deal. And I'll bet you they were using those counterfeit bills on the road to pay for gas, hotels, food and beer too. I bet you they were also buying drugs with it (which is probably who they were snitching on).
Themselves? They were printing the $, who else is there to rat on?
@@SeamHead33 I sincerely doubt that the Windham family, in between wrestling events, managed to develop and learn how to run an entire counterfeiting operation.
Counterfeiting carried very little jail time in 1990
Carnies, bandits the lot of them! 😂🤣😁
2:07 Bruiser Brody. And nobody was going to say or do anything about it. Lol
Gosh, I miss that guy.
How about Lex Luger, when he swapped from WWF back to WCW? Stories have come out that Luger worked a WWF (house?) show Sunday- and then showed up on Monday Nitro… no notice to Vince?
Lugar was on a "day to day" deal. He didn't have a dedicated contract (according to all sources I could find). So, yeah, he worked some house shows, and had talked to Bischoff a little before and had a deal done with a set date to come to Nitro (it's first episode). He was told to not tell Vince, since Vince hadn't bothered to work out a deal with him.
He was working without a contract. But for the low-ball amount Bischoff got him for, he must've really been getting paid crap in WWF.
I guess when him being the next "Hulk Hogan" didn't pan out, Lex jumped back to WCW.
What's insane is that Kendall Windham is only 9 years older than AJ Styles.
And he went to prison for two years and didn't gain any muscle.
Thats so Adam Cole of him to not gain muscle.
BJM and KW went to prison for making counterfeit money. The wrestling business did not pay enough.
Austin Idol had a reputation for coming and going into different territories with and without notice. My favorite story was that he won a battle royal and was presented with a gimmick check. The check was from an active account and on his way out of the territory Idol kept the check and managed to cash it.
Like Dutch...I did not know this! WOWZERS! Half a Million Dollars in fake $20 Dollar Bills? Geez Louise! Would love to hear more about how Kendall and Dad got started in their Monopoly Money Shenanigans! There has to be some back story to this somewhere!
@@ithinkaboutthings9052 I'm curious as to what all went down now! I'm sure some info is out there. Was just a bit startled to learn of this today. Salute👋
Sometimes I wonder if Ditch really listens to the questions lol
The "Widowmaker" gimmick had some potential. It seemed WWF was positioning Windham to be one of the top heels in the company when he abruptly left.
Prefer the Windham Horseman lineup myself.
easily the best lineup
Blackjack I met in mid 70s .I instructed me I was not supposed to like bad guys. He was not to sign autographs. Then he put me in head lock to show it didn't hurt. Then gave me autograph. He told me he had 2 boys. Didn't know Barry was same age. Nicest down to earth celebrities ever. None can interact w fans like Blackjack .hehe
Arn was saying Barry wasn't a careerist and just wanted to enjoy himself and have fun, so once the fun ended somewhere that was it, no point being there another day, it's admirable that he wouldn't put up with months and years of politics and backstabbing and misery just to keep a spot like a lot of wrestlers do, I can imagine his mental health is immaculate these days compared to a lot of other wrestlers
I always liked Barry Windham so much. What a pity about his life. I first saw him teaming with Mike Rotundo as a top tag team in WWF.
He had good reason to leave WWF, though, since I didn't think he had much of a push. Even as a bad guy, he was entertaining down in Atlanta on TV.
Agree but Barry has had a fortunate happy life that i think peaked during CWF days. Dont think he regrets much.
the US Express was being pushed as the top babyface tag team. Windham in particular had McMahon's eye because he was 2nd generation, tall, blonde, handsome and an incredible worker.
they left wwf due to money and too much travel
Barry was My Favorite HORSEMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Barry was the Widowmaker!
Sid has a reputation for leaving when he felt like it.
a lot of things played a part in my opinion
- windham was never 100% into the wrestling business. you can look at his career and see stops and starts, jumps from promotion to another. he was just a guy who never was fully invested in the business especially the endless road travel
- he was a transitional champ. he knew he was a placeholder til the belt went back to flair. a fact made glaringly clear at super brawl 3 where he beat great muta for the title and a returning ric flair took center stage to hand the big gold belt to windham. he knew the writing was on the wall
- he tore his acl knee during the title switch with flair at the '93 beach blast...he took a year off to heal and tore it again in '94
windham was a guy with a lot of outside interest so wrestling was a means to an end. something he enjoyed but was not his only passion. he was generally relegated to 2nd, 3rd or 4th despite being the top talent. when he finally gets the belt he knows he's only renting it. you can tell the change in his physique from that event in january 93 to beach blast only several months later
There were three people involved and apparently they showed up the first time with $1020 and the second time over $1 million but they were only trying to get 250 grand out of it. Initially it was printed up to be a payoff for a drug deal.
Your exactly right winger
Yeah amazing performer in the 80s but his character and such just felt outdated when the 90s rolled around. Nice that he did get a token world title run even if it only happened when WCW had 2 world champions.
Don't take checks from Ric Flair or cash from Kendall Wyndham
That's a federal crime. Right up there with bank robbery.
I dated a chick who’s uncle was a secret service agent who worked on that case. He was a big wrestling fan and a fan of them and was so disappointed in them. I’ve also had my own run in with a guy who paid me in counterfeit bills and now I really hate counterfeiters. I can see how they can convince themselves what they are doing is not that bad though.
Obviously...
@ackholiday1025
24 months for counterfeiting 500,000 dollars? So if I counterfeit 250,000 dollars I'll only get a year if I get caught. Ummmm. Lol. Guess I won't take the chance but it'll make you think.
I met barry at a 80s wrestling con in nj. I mentioned to him tht i was at wrestlemania 1. As a kid. When he and rotundo. Went against the iron sheik and vollkof. He smiled and laughed 👋
And?
They should've had IRS approach The Stalker for back taxes and have The Stalker pay in counterfeit $20 bills.
Barry was a little bit past his prime in 1993 but was still pretty capable in the ring. Dutch is struggling with his years in this one but James is trying to help straighten him out. IMO, Barry's prime was like '85 to '89. He was just phenomenal in the ring in the 2nd half of the 80s - one of the 5 or 6 best in-ring workers in the U.S. during those years. In the early 90s he was gaining weight and I think not physically taking care of his body. That's why I don't think he was quite as good from say 1990 to 1993 as he had been in the late 80s.
Likewise, he shredded the ligaments in one of his knees twice in back-to-back years: 1993 and 1994. After he did it the 2nd time, his career was basically a wrap. He came back and wrestled, obviously, but he was never even remotely the same worker. The injuries and his weight/being out of shape took him out from 1994 onward. Still, he was already a bit past his prime in 1993 because he had gained too much weight and wasn't taking care of himself.
I saw him wrestling Flair. It was the main event and he mostly phoned it in.
Bruiser Brody, Terry Funk
The Windham crime family
"Very few top guys did it.'' probably one of the things that set them apart from the others and made them one of the top guys.
Never heard of this .
do that tom zman zink
😮
Yes they did time.I was in jesup georgia federal prison with kendall in 1990
Didn’t psycho Sid just walk off a load of times?
Kendall should have lived his gimmick as the Counterfeiter and then formed a tag team with WCW enhancement worker The Gambler. Both could have thrown fake $20 bills out to the crowd with their faces on them.
Road warriors
Barry should have been a World Champion somewhere.... Austin Idol & Barry Windham were two missed opportunities....
He was NWA/WCW Champion in 1993
@@SeamHead33 He held the NWA title for 5 months in WCW. At that point the NWA title was a secondary championship, behind the WCW World title. The NWA World title essentially died in '91 I think, when Flair stopped being referred to as NWA Champion, and instead was just called WCW Champion. In '93 it was essentially a gimmick title, having lost its continuity.....You can count it if you want, but I wouldn't.
Who are these people ?
Most wrestlers were nutz. N had dysfunctional lives. Jeez ..
Old news
I'd not heard of this story 🤷🏽
@@mclovin6039 yeah old news from a few years ago barry and his dad and kendal was busted on charges .. just google it and read the dates
@@mclovin6039 Neither did I.

How can Dutch think someone want to watch these videos if he's sitting there not knowing what's going on in wrestling when the fans do. He seem kind of dumb. Everyone know Blackjack Mulligan was in prison for counterfeit money. I like James but I wouldn't watch and support this channel. James need to change the wrestler he interview.
Oooh OOOOH! "Things stupid people say"?
Did I get it right?
Dutch Mantell is one of the most knowledgeable men in wrestling. He may be a little older and slower now, but damn few know as much. Ask Stone Cold Steve Austin about him. He'll tell you that Dutch gave him more pro wrestling knowledge and insight into the business than the man who trained him, Chris Adams.
Dutch seems to get lost during a lot of James questions. What’s sad is James tells Dutch beforehand what they will be talking about. No doubt that Dutch has a wealth of wrestling knowledge but he can’t remember it.
@@JohnDoe-wy2py
Could be age wrestling injuries or might just don't understand I am not a fan of his or wrestling. And he played a dumb hillbilly role good he is really dumb. I was once a subscriber but I'm not anymore.
@@JohnDoe-wy2py He's on up there man. I think he's at least in his mid 70s. Hell I know a guy that's president that can't even form a sentence so I feel like Dutch is doing pretty good all things considering.
