I saw this guy open for Mike Birbiglia last night, and I'm kind of obsessed with him now.

Chris Gethard is kinda my hero even though I've never seen his show because of an open letter he wrote to someone who wrote anonymously on his tumblr that they were thinking about committing suicide. It was one of the most beautiful, heart-wrenching and genuine essays I've ever read. Just for that he gets my seal of approval for sure

Here is what Chris actually said, but before you read it - what is so wrong in your life that you have to try to tear down a genuinely beautiful and inspirational thing that someone did in such a venomous and hateful manner?

bobsonny youre correct, it was a stupid comment which I have since deleted. It wasnt supposed to be hateful nor venemous, it was supposed to be mocking.
Venimus Vidimus I commend you highly for your decision to delete the comment. I think it speaks a great deal about your character, especially in an online community where the impulse is to become defensive and hurl insults. I simply suggest the possibility that perhaps mocking should not be the first action in a situation - maybe check it out next time before being edgy with a mocking comment. I'll be the first to admit that a lot of times, a mocking or lightly insulting comment can be really funny, but there are other times when something hasn't really earned the snark, and - in my own view - Chris Gethard's reply was very inspirational and didn't leave a lot of room to be mocked.
That said, your reply to my comment brightened my day, and I thank you sincerely for it. Cheers, and have a good one.

+Meatwood Flac it was pretty clear they weren't sure whether to laugh or feel bad as a lot of his "funny" comments were more self deprecating than people are used to hearing.
idk, Conan sets the self-deprecation bar pretty high.
he does but he also hams them up with a crying face or in some other way that you can easily tell he's going for the laugh. Chris plays it so straight and since he's not nearly as well known it's harder to tell.
I've never heard of him previously, but after watching his clip on Colbert's show and then this one, I will definitely be looking up his show! VERY funny dude, despite (or because of?) his Depression and Anxiety, which is something I really respect. #FightTheStigma
