My favorite british roadsters of all time.TR5/6 I will take either one. Love those red wall tires. Didn't know these cars had this feature. Rare. Cool. I would take any of these beauties. ❤💙💜😜👍😎
I had both a TR-3 and a TR-4A back when they were just used cars. And I was young and single. The joys of British sports cars in their heyday.
The TR5??? The true rag-top summer sportscar experience was the TR-3 with the 'notched' body line right at the seating line. I remember being a passenger to Cape Cod in high school summers and casually sticking my right hand down and onto the pavement for an instant, high-friction manicure.
My first car as a teenager was a Triumph Tr-6. Between my brother and I drove it for over 7 years and nearly 90k miles. Quirky but so much fun! Even in the rain and snow.
Thank you both very much for a summer journey into, “ The cars of summer”.
My dad owned a 1969 Mercedes Benz 280SL coupe, and really loved it. He let me drive it a few times, and it really was a delight.
I watched this shortly before I visited the exhibit today. The cars are even better looking in person.
Thanks for swinging by!
Mr. Osborne is always a font of knowledge.
I love the back stories - very entertaining!
Thank you!
I always miss my MG Midgets (not in this video but similar experience) for the pure driving experience with a 1500 CC engine and an open top. :)
Great video! My German convertible isn't quite the sports car as those featured here, but that VW Eos is still hella fun to drive! I love open air motoring, for all the reasons you outline here. And the roof is always in the trunk, for just in case. 😎
I love going Topless and so does my wife... I have a ZL1 and she has a Solara and they are proper cars. I see you have driven a convertible fast as it snatched you bald! I must disagree that driving a slow car fast is more fun than driving a fast car slow. In those moments when you can drive fast it's much more fun in the fast car and being in that moment comes rarely so why waste the moment! I am 100% DAV and unable to push a clutch in so I pick that 280SL. Being that it's a Ragtop Deluxe who cares about crank windows as they will hardly ever be up. Thank you, Mr. Osborne, for the time you spend showing these cars and for the knowledge you share. Also, a fan of your friend Jay Leno.
Excellent description of the SL's sports car mission. The "sensible dream car" is an apt signifier. It's the sports car you can live with crossing the continent or daily driving for hundreds of thousands of miles subscribing to Mercedes strict maintenance schedule. Preferably and preventively prematurely.
My dad had a TR-3 way back in the 1960s. I had a Spitfire in the 70s. Great fun to drive! I personally think the Spit is beautiful. Not reliable, but pretty and a blast to drive, especially with the top down!
There's what appears to be a good Triumph TR6 by the side of a New Hampshire backroad near me. It has the steel hard top, seems to be rust free, has red line tires, triple Weber side drafts, and a stainless steel exhaust. The interior needs some work but seems pretty good. It's for sale, someone might get a good car here. I have a two car garage and three carrs, one of which is a '16 Miata, so it's not for me.
I have owned one convertible in my life. 1986 Pontiac sunbird SE convertible. Fun car. Mechanically a pain in the ass 🤬
Yes, my C7 Stingray has a roof I can put in the hatch. For me, somehow, the top-off experience seems totally different. Both are good… but different. Thanks for a fun episode.
We will visit Newport by HMS Queen Mary ll on October 5th
Planning to visit your fine museum and feel the aura ...
Come see the Audrain Concours! It's that weekend www.audrainconcours.com/
Great chemistry. Fine young man, but I find it difficult to believe he gets paid for his job! Hahaha 😂
I have a SLK 320, It's not as good looking as my previous MK1 TT coupe however! You cannot beat open air motoring here in the UK It's 31 degrees- free AC and open air cruising in my V6 Yes please!
Can't beat the open top! Check out our video featuring an SLK 230 Kompressor: czcams.com/video/AQSPGVW7_T8/video.html
@@AudrainMuseumNetwork No way! Amazing definitely checking this out! Thanks Donald.
Taking the top of a 550 could have looked beautiful, but the roll bars ruined the lines. They sit way too high. 550 was the last front engine v12 ferrari I found beautiful.
What about the C2 and C3 Corvettes? Full convertibles were offered, and the T-top models. Why do you ignore them. They were clearly better than anything Triumph offered.

@@AudrainMuseumNetwork My first car was an XK120M FHC so I do have some knowledge of European car history. American products seem to have been looked down upon.
My Jag was unfortunately beaten to near inches of a functional automobile.
Years later I owned 4 Corvettes, 1969 C3, 1986 C4 Z51, 2005 C5 ZO61986 C6 ZO6. While none of these Corvettes may have had the sophistication of a satisfactory European Sports Car. But they could easily kick A$$ of all your favorites cars.
Sorry for my outrageous reply. All the best to your Museum.
Long ago, I didn't take the opportunity to buy a very well kept '72 Pagoda because I'm dumb, for $13,000....
Cheeky!
25 minutes of waiting to see some top-less motoring and all we got was a bunch of convertibles.
Only car guys know the Britsh sports car jokes, and even then, only certain car guys....which sucks because i find myself explaining off hand references way too much
Disappointing, how can you talk about open cars without even mentioning the only manufacturer to produce convertibles from the 50's to the mid 90's? Alfa Romeo! Shame on you.
Alpha Romeo Spiders are gorgeous cars!
I think they like to talk about what they have in the showroom which kinda makes sense
Not the footage I was expecting, but that's fine, I guess.
My late brother Larry had a better convertible. 1968 Oldsmobile 442
Great video- however, I feel it would add to the content to actually move on to each vehicle as you speak on them, instead of just showing them. 🤌
