ُSummary of Summer season Onion Production Technology || Crop Reformer

Onion has become one of the most profitable crops among all other crops.
Now a days, onion price has sky rocked. There are various reasons behind this rise in price. Rainfalls of monsoon had temporarily choked the supply line of onion from KPK and Baluchistan which resulted into very high market rates during the last decade of August. This was a temporary problem which may restore during the 1st or 2nd week of September. However, most of crop planted in Sindh during monsoon season, has mostly been destroyed and a severe shortage of onion is expected from October to December. It is hoped that government will soon manage to import a huge tonnage of onion to maintain its price. If mismanaged, onion price may affect the budget of common man even more badly than electricity and petroleum products.
Onion is the most important vegetable/condiment crop of Pakistan. It is cultivated in large scale more or less throughout country. We have mentioned the summary of onion production Technology especially with reference to Punjab province. It has been mentioned that frequency of weeds, diseases and lack of storage facilities are considered as the major bottle neck in its profitable farming. As compared to the heavy and clayey soils, its cultivation is more successful in loam and sandy loam soils. Nasar Puri, Phulkara and Swat 1 are suggested as non-hybrid varieties. Out of a dozen of hybrids, Seminis 748 (Mehr M. Din & sons Gujranwala) and Melbak (Siddique Sons Faisalabad) are considered as the high performer varieties. Winner, Century and Jalal of Madina Seeds Gujranwala have also been performing well.
Onion is a very common vegetable that is used extensively in our region in almost each and every house in making curry and other food items.
