    Hello there! Since you're closing in on the 1000th episode I would like to submit an idea. I recon your viewership has been getting bigger and bigger by the day and it may be that many people (me included) are not that familiar with the lockpicking world. I find your videos really entertaining to watch but often can't quite understand every technical terms you're using. And even though a Google search will answer most of my questions, I really think it would be sweet to have you do a special episode (or maybe series even) on lockpicking 101. What is a spool, a false set, different kinds of keyways and all that kind of stuff we hear you say all the time! You are very articulate and easy to understand for people not so good in English, so I believe I'm not the only one who would really love that kind of content, and 1000 episodes seem to be a landmark worth doing something a bit different for.
    Anyway, that's all I have to say to you for today, have a nice day! And thanks for all the great videos!

      agreed, a lockpicking 101 from LPL would be amazing. Seems a lot of his viewers are like us and probably have no idea how we got here but damn it's interesting so we've stayed :D Some information on the terms we keep hearing would be really nice. I know Bosnian Bill does some educational vids but I just don't quite like his style or voice as much as I like LPL's :/

    • @afwaller
      @afwaller Před 5 lety +17

      Kevin Benoit a detent is an item that holds something in place - usually a ball in a hole that partially pushes through or a captive pin. Sometimes a detent is a lever or catch. Spring bias just means the spring is prone to keeping something at 12 o clock (top, imagine a watchface) or gives more resistance when you move past/away from that position. In this case the detent is used to tend to keep it at the top aligned position.

      They also had to make rather elaborate specialty tools though. Considering the need for those tools, plust the time taken, it makes the Bowley fairly secure. No lock is unpick-able or indestructible, it's just there to buy time for a thief to be caught, or discourage them so they go for an easier target.

    Hi Harry, The curved key and keyway is fairly unique, and they have considered pick resistance with the spools. I'm guessing their main concern was key control. In Asian countries there is often little key cutting stalls on street corners, and even mobile key cutters with machines on the backs of small motor cycles. Unauthorized key duplication would be difficult, even by altering an existing "flat" dimple key, creating the curve would be difficult. The other problem is the curved key would not sit in the jaws of most dimple duplicating machines, thus key control would be reasonably effective. Regards, Brian.
