    Probably the best, most dynamic live performance of this song ever captured on video.. Frank is absolutely mesmerizing here, his phrasing and splitting the time to make it swing even harder is off the charts, plus his whole body movements ( the Sinatra ‘shoulder shimmy’) and facial expressions expressions convey a great joy in his performance, a man supremely confident in his skin and the band under the equally animated conducting of the great Quincy Jones complements the Chairman perfectly! And that trombone solo, although it diverges from the legendary Milt Bernhardt solo, might be just as good, or even better in that moment! This folks, is one for the ages!

      Thanks for such an expressive comment. You're right. I just saw this for the first time ever, though I've listened and watched Sinatra since I was maybe 3 years old (that would be 1956). His pure enjoyment, especially when he sat and acknowledged the band, is unmatched in the annals of recorded music (well, maybe, see Cream, Crossroads, Jimi Hendrix, any time). This is an absolute classic. I also love his "High Hopes" with all those kids (saw it live when I was just like those kids). Let's revive the age of innocence.

      He's essentially b&w Beiber, some character in his voice and a load of charisma but not the best singer of his day let alone all time. He does have good PR: eg he wasn;t the heart of the ratpack, that was Bogart. Wrote a handful of forgettable trash. Unskilled actor whose big personality did a lot of heavy lifting for his lack of ability. Highly over-rated.

    THE best version of this song, more dynamic than the Count Basie album, thanks I think to Quincy Jones conducting. Frank is really into the beat here, completely in sync with the music. The trombone solo is the best of all, to which Frank sits down out of respect, and the snapping finger salute he does is the essence of cool.

    • @keybobrob1
      @keybobrob1 Před 9 lety +1

      lcs1956 yeah, great stuff and like you said he shows his respect indeed....speaking of which it would be also respectful if you'd not refer to a trombone solo as a trumpet solo. Ugh! you got under my skin with that!...LOL;-)

      @@NoOne-kr4jc Nah, that was someone feeling the music & Frank! There's never "too quick" when you feel something beyond normal human perception. That's why especially musicians, athletes, creative people in general, or simply music lovers who are extremely sensitive to sound and frequency and in the zone can simply feel things damn near psychically. Logical/left-brain thinkers usually don't get it, just like right-brain creatives usually don't get excited by mathematics. We all have our own superpowers 😉

    So many singers alive today try to sing like him. It's crazy because this man who once lived made so many albums and top the charts with many great songs. He even beat my favorite band of all time, *The Beatles* and now he's never mentioned anymore. If you think an impersonator sounds close to his singing than you don't know Sinatra. My younger generation doesn't even know who he is because we having terrible singers like Michael Bubble taken over. Why would anyone want to listen to someone else other than the the real stuff? Just put in a Sinatra album and listen to the same songs but better. You won't be listening to different songs. But they'll sound better and have more feeling to them
