4 years later this video is still very helpful. After watching this video I looked for the Franklin (known as Bauer today) and it was on clearance sale for $79.99! I was able to secure the last one in my area.
It's a very good product and has helped me to hold wood in place to plane. Thanks for taking the time to do this review.

I picked up one of these last week. Upon trying to set it up, both spring pins in the 3rd leg lever locks broke and fell in multiple pieces. I had to find alternative pins to put in them. But, as a welder and fabricator, I used this on a job site to hold metal while I cut it. It worked fantastic! I should have bought a version of this earlier, but I couldn't pass up the $99 sale price on this one.

Everyone of your criticisms of the Jaw Horse is valid. I have two of them and yes they were on sale, close out, clearance, or whatever you want to call it. The roller is useless. I end up carrying it by the third leg. I also would be happier if they folded up into a smaller package. I've also had that third leg pop out while carrying it and dropped them. Looks like HF has another winner product that seems to come along to late to do me any good.

I have 6 of them because I use them for clamping-gluing up flat work like bench tops. I was able to get 2 of them on clearance for $25 bucks a piece or I would not have 6 of them. However when I use them I find I need them all when doing a lot of glueing up. The harbor freight ones should be cheaper though. the other 4 I found on line for $99 and free shipping.

I have had a Rockwell for about 15 years and have never tripped over one of the feet. I have always found the round dial lock to be more than adequate, all it does is secure the one leg either closed or open. The leg cannot extend or collapse even with the dial lock not tightened. My clamp has never come close to sliding off the end of the tool. Mine might if I tilted it up into a position that you couldn't use it anyway. The Franklin may be just as good and if so then it is a good tool. If it is better, then it is a superb tool. I think the Jawhorse ..................or something like it is nearly a must have.

I agree, I have had my Rockwell for about 10 years and never had any problems with it. Works great for my needs. I am sure the Franklin is a great tool, but until my Rockwell fails in some manner, I do not see the need to replace it.

I bought one of the first Jaw Horses sold when they hit the store. I've used it thousands of times and never tripped over it, never had the plate "slide off" never had anything break, loosen, or not work flawlessly. The large looped feet are fantastic on soft ground, and offer an even wider stance. If you haven't figure out why the locking lever has that big foot loop, then you've clearly never been on a job where there's mud and snow, and had the joy of having your foot slide off of something like this and gouge your leg. there's no tinker toy little latches and flippers to break to lock in those cheap looking foot pads on the Franklin, and I sincerely doubt it will last a fraction of the time My Rockwell has without breaking.

I am a big fan of the Rockwell Sheetmaster version of this (I have 2 of them) but I agree about the lock on the third leg and wheels though where they are usable, it does work well but an off road wheel attachment kit would be nice for either. It would also be nice if Harbor Freight introduced some of the accessories that Rockwell discontinued (hint hint... Share these thoughts with your product development contacts). As for the stirrup feet, try having your cub stand in one for some additional support (it is generally on the wrong side to do it yourself) or put a 2x3 (I think that fits) through it and another board across that down to where you work and step on that.
You showed that the jaw slides fit but can you confirm that it does function? I may be letting a cat out of the bag but if so, before introducing the Sheetmaster Rockwell used to make a longer jaw slide that would accomidate a sheet of plywood, so may do the same for this unit.
Triton has some some similar accessories but also some other more workstation type ones. I do not think that the workstation type accessories would transfer to this unit based on how theirs work but I think that they are gimmicky anyway. That being said, I could see Harbor Freight offering the support bracket that comes with the Sheetmaster to make a sheet of plywood become a work surface with the help of a 2x4.
I think Harbor Freight introducing this sort of tool shows that they can be a game changer even I do think they are a little late on this one (my guess is that there may have been patent or licensing issues otherwise we should have seen more of these a long time ago ignoring the fact that Worx discontinued thiers). Hopefully as with others, this will challenge others to improve their products or lower thier price without cheapening the product since I think Harboe Freight offering this could enlarge and squeeze the market on these devices.

I have the Triton SJA300XL it was bought for £140, in American thats maybe 180USD but it is an absolute beast, a fantastic upgrade from any black n decker clamp bench, it's the same features as the franklin/rockwell they all seem to be very similar, 1 tonnne/2200lbs clamp pressure etc portable, folds up nice as mentioned, great for little jobs at home or commercial building site, you can make an instant table out of it with sheet material, even use it for steadying a fence/gate post, its a good investment for DIY and tough enough for building site with all steel parts. A travelling carpenter would really appreciate it

The jawhorse type clamp is one of the most used tools in my garage. They allow you to hold a work piece is a variety of positions. The clamping force on these things is unreal. Once you lock something in, it’s not going anywhere. I do agree on the wheel (roller). I’d like to se a redesign that allowed it to be more functional for transportation. Bear is correct on the weight. Lugging this around is not easy for a smaller person. It has to have sufficient weight in order to not tip over during use. At $100, the Franklin is a STEAL.

Frankly, I think you could take the jaw off the Franklin and put it right on the Rockwell and it would work just fine. The cross-section, the hole pattern those look exactly the same. There are some minor differences in the pattern of slots on the top.

The stirrup foot on the Rockwell is to step into with your own foot for leverage if the jawhorse leg lifts up with top heavy work load. Flat feet are OK but they don't have the security of a stirrup because they aren't very wide for a foot.

Serious note here from another big grizzly - do your legs hurt and swell where the red discoloration (venous stasis) is located? While it may look dorky, you may want to talk to a doctor about compression stockings to alleviate the pressure and swelling. Mine looked like that and I didn’t wear my stockings. Now I’m looking forward to 10 procedures to either have microphlebectomies and or laser ablations to fix the veins in my legs. Had the 1st procedure on Friday and had 22 veins cut out of my upper leg - not really painful as much as it is sore 4 days later. Go ask the doc...you don’t want to have it come to the point where you can’t walk and your legs hurt all the time and swell and leak. When one of those veins gets to the skin and breaks through and you knick it, it bleeds a LOT and it requires 15 mins of constant pressure to get it to clot up while the leg is elevated. Not easy to do with an ample abdomen. 😉

I called tech support, but HF does not support this Bauer Workstation with replacement parts. Current price for HF Bauer workstation is $149 with a limited 90 day warranty. Home Depot sells the Rockwell Jawhorse for $239 but it has a 5 year warranty. I expected a much longer life out of the HF Bauer workstation. Just glad it broke within the 90 day return period. Given the failure of my Bauer workstation, I cannot recommend it. I might replace it with the Rockwell just for the 5 year warranty. I'm all for saving money, but my tools need to last. I only got 10 hours out of the HF Bauer workstation before it bent out of shape and no longer clamps tight.

THANK YOU, I'm glad you made this video...I didn't know Harbor Freight made one of these....I've almost purchased that Rockwell several times at Lowe's (for when I cut and thread conduit on the jobsite) but kept putting it off and never actually buying it. No Kidding, I've probably looked at that Rockwell at least 25 times but never bought it. ...I have an old Ridgid Tripod vise (expensive when it was new) already but I've had it since the late 1990's, and it's age is showing, not to mention it's bulky and heavy to carry and at 48 years of age, I'm just not as young as I used to be and have been looking at the Rockwell as a lighter weight easier to lug around replacement..........BUT, after seeing this video, It looks like I will definately be paying Harbor Freight a visit next payday (I've was already planning a trip to H.Freight anyway to reload on rolls of electrical tape)

The green Franklins are more compact than this red one. I've had the green ones before & they'll fold up nicely & I have even slipped one in my pocket. They don't have much clamping force & in the presence of a spouse they can be very difficult to hold on to. Jeff, maybe you could do a Franklin to Franklin comparison video.

The Den of Tools she said because the Franklin is so new. They just put out the floor model today and I bought the first one. She said Franklin will be added some time in the near future.....which sucks but I was able to use a coupon and pay $99 so it’s better than nothing I’m looking forward to using it!

@@treebossmike8818 I'd go back and talk to a manager. If it's not on the coupon and a retraction isn't posted at the store, a manager can override the price.
Quite frankly I can't see them suddenly putting a blanket exclusion on Franklin.
I had that fight once on the smaller edge guide. When corporate put it in their system they forgot to check a box.

@Paul Russell - even at $99, you got one heck of a deal. I have the original Rockwell version, and absolutely love it. The Franklin looks every bit as stout and functional. You won’t regret your purchase.

I wonder if HF will be adding accessories?I have a Jawhorse, but the accessories cost as much or more than the base HF unit. And I agree about tripping over the foot loop on the Jawhorse. As such, it's hard to leave the unit in place as a workstation.
