Don't force yourself to create content when your heart isn't up for it. Take a break and relax. Try something new and different for a change of pace, be it a job, a new hobby, etc. Take as long as you need to rejuvenate yourself. Your wellbeing takes priority over your viewers.
Take care of yourself and hope everything with your relative continues to improve. :)

Something similar happened to me 2 years ago. I didn't burn out on the miniatures, but I did burn out on being a master. 8 years in a row with my group of friends. And in the end... I burned. And I burst after a game. Luckily, my friends are great, and they helped me with it. We stopped playing for a while and when we came back, it was with another person acting as master for a while. So after a few months and after having talked about what problems I had had and what they had, we have returned in a big way.
Sometimes stopping and resting is the best remedy.

your channel is probably the best of its kind on the Tube. And my favorite anyway.
Sometime, life is rough , sometime things have no sens at all. I had a burn out and nervous break down 2 years ago due to my job as design instructor. Hight pressure all the time and I was agressed by an other teacher. So I felt down down because that was unfair at all. The only thing that help me to come back from the land of sadness, except my loving family and doctors, is the miniatures painting, terrain crafting and wargaming with my friends.
I'm 53, worked as a manager for GW in the early 90's, worked as the main characher designer on the first edition of Malifaux, now doing illustrations and sculpting models for Crooked Dice. I don't want to do a job that destroy me slowly but surely. I'm hard working on a new youtube channel, making thing that make me happy. Trying to teach what I have learn with years about hobby in general. You are a great source of inspiration for me.

Leif, I find your channel is great, and your health (both mentally and physically) should be your top priority. You should take all the time you need away so you can recover so you can enjoy your hobby again. Your true fans will understand. I know you allow us to join you in something you enjoy, and you should step back and take a break from time to time. Stress isn't something you need. I look forward to seeing the videos where you're doing funny introductions again and being excited as you're sharing your love of crafting.

I can understand the situation of feeling too tired and exhausted to get into crafting or painting. I have 4 kids and a full time job, so there is always very little time and its always late in the evening. It is often watching your channel and your projects (and some others) that motivate me to get off the couch and get crafting. After more than 2 years, I have a full, modular Frostgrave table and 3 warbands. Still got not time to play, but that will change. In all honesty, I would never have had the motivation to put this much time into it (and enjoy myself immensely), if it wasn't for the motivating videos and projects of people like yourself. Wish you all the best!

You're my favourite terrain crafter on CZcams. I think you make the best style of videos and also share a great love for Mordheim. For other games, I would suggest Burrows and Badgers. Similar to Mordheim in style, but with anthropomorphic animals. Imagine "Wind in the Willows" or the Redwall books mixed with fantasy.

I literally cried listening to you telling the story of an impossible battle, won against all odds. I am in your same situation and am lucky to have a wonderful person at my side, i've always followed you silently, laughing with your videos and taking inspiration to me you're one of the greatest miniature youtubers in the world. I have only just found your channel (thanks to Mordhiem) and I have to say it is one of the best I have come across. It is so well produced, you set a high bar for CZcams videos. I have been absolutely loving watching your scenery builds (something I had never done) which has inspired me to start building my own. My favorite is the Mordhiem content, a game I have never played but after seeing the fantastic worlds you have built I am going to paint a Skaven warband and try and get into the hunt for wyrdstone! I really enjoyed your introduction to the warbands and your story telling is fantastic. It is hard work producing videos even more so when you are also the subject. Thanks for all the awesome videos they are soooooo good.

Thank you for this video Leif. I have run through a similar problem. Almost two years ago my mother passed and this summer I lost my father and grandfather. The feeling of burnout and exhaustion and a general feeling of what to do now has been tough to say the least. Your story and timing has added a little spark of hope to my world. From the bottom of my heart thank you. I look forward to seeing more of your work, it is masterful and inspiring.
My deepest condolences to you! I can only imagine the pain and loss you're feeling. The thing we have to hold on to are the good things but getting to that mental place can be hard. Your channel is one of my favourites, and I always look forward to new videos. But burnout can be hard. I can't say that I've experienced it at the full extent, but even as a part time commission painter I find the work can take over at times, and I find myself neglecting other things. So it's important to step back at times, and take a break. Your physical and mental health is way more important. I'm sure you'll deal with this in the way you need to, and whatever content you publish I will be there to watch it. As an aside, why not have a look at Burrows and Badgers. It's a really fun game that I don't play as often as I'd like, with some amazing miniatures and freedom to create some unique terrain pieces. Best wishes to you and your family.

I've felt that low point in hobby lately myself. Too much work, lots of other responsibilities, never enough time to properly recharge.. makes the hobby feel forced or at times even pointless. But when i have a free moment and am able to fill it with friends, laughs, games, or even hobby content on CZcams such as your channel... It all helps to revitalize my hobby desire. Its never immediate but it all helps.
Your channel is a super valuable resource for someone like me who wants to craft fun and detailed tables for my wargaming without buying ridiculously expensive plastic kits and does not have space to invest in 3d printing. And the pleasure of making something with my own hands cannot be understated. Your channel is wonderful and i hope you are able to determine the best way forward with it for yourself and us all to continue enjoying it.

Analytics are the enemy of quality, Leif your content has always been thoroughly inspiring. Remember getting a present you really liked? Now think of just receiving an infinite amount of socks. I know which I'd prefer. (Apologies if you'd really like some socks.)
For new games, Forbidden Psalm might be right up your alley, it has some visual elements in common with Mordheim so if you want "similar but different" it might be perfect.
If you want something completely new, though, try sci-fi (if that interests you) - maybe something like Stargrave or one of the many fantastic skirmish-level games like it.

The algorithm is a harsh mistress, and sadly she rewards consistency and frequency above all other things. Just know we really appreciate you - I was inspired to start Mordheim through your videos and I've made nearly all your Mordheim terrain builds so far. I lost my mom about two weeks ago, and she was one of my DND players. We've all struggled since and we haven't been able to have a game session because it hurts. I also haven't really been able to craft much but I have found what little I could bring myself to do actually helped me heal a bit. I still have a lot of work to do in that sense but knowing that I'm making things that my mom would've thought were so cool or painting things that my mom would love...well that gives me some sense of happiness at a time in my life that's very dark.
I guess I share all this to say that we all come and go through these hard times in our life, and sometimes the expression or creativity that comes from this medium is a thing that can help us come to terms with the parts of our life that really hurt us.
I'm glad to hear that your friend is OK. You should honestly feel no pressure to keep doing things for show, please dont feel bad for doing something that you enjoy just because somebody near and dear to you was at a point of suffering. Bringing yourself down is not what they would want you to do. Those closest to us would want us to continue doing the things that we enjoy.
I really appreciate what you do with your channel. Some of your builds are among my favorite and if it wasn't for you, BMC, Scotty and Wyloch this time, and the last time I had to go through something similar, would have been much harder. I have found a Zen state through crafting and painting, and I hope that you can have that again someday whether it's on or off camera. ❤

I have been in the hobbby for about 44yrs I don’t have a CZcams channel so I get inspiration from people like you , I have experienced burnout many times I always end up coming back to it because it’s what I love to do I can’t imagine my life without miniature painting it brings me to a place where I find solace and peace ! I think you need to paint for yourself not for your followers and everything will fall into place like it normally does , you will see.

Be carefull and take time to recover. With the things you told, it seems wise to try and look for what motivates you and helps you relax and recover. Messages like 'blowing up channels' and stuff just put more pressure, leave those behind. The value in the work you do seems to be in quality and to stimulate others. Looking at the responses on your video's, you are achieving this. Many people are inspired by your work and vids, some even made it into the realm of Mordheim. Their fun is impossible to be expressed in figures :)

I have been experiencing a lot of burnout myself from similar but much less responsibility driven life stuff as well, as one of my closest friends passed away from a heart attack in his sleep at 31 years of age. Your channel has been a joy to me.
Personally, turnip 28 being such a simplistic and free and open miniatures agnostic system with such hilarious eldritch horror Monty python sketches has been my recent fascination. Both my partner and myself have been having a blast just brainstorming lore for our warbands. The rules are free so if you haven't yet, check them out!

Health is always the priority. Mordheim is great! I might recommend Rangers of Shadow Deep as it has both solo and co-op and the variety of scenarios and foes would allow you to use a bunch of varied terrain between games. Fun narrative focus too. :)

My suggestion is to look at Kings of War due to the fantasy miniatures and mult-basing terrain aesthetic across the army... It woke up my hobby mojo

I find that watching terrain building and painting videos like yours really gets my own creative juices flowing! It fired up a Mordheim campaign with a few friends, and every time we prepare to play, I work on terrain before the next game. After the game, it makes me want to paint miniatures and make even more terrain! Creativity is a process. Sometimes you just got to let it find you. :)

Sorry to hear life has been rough, I don't think you've had burnout at all, sounds to me like you have been overworked, overstressed, and probably a little depressed, no surprise. [virtual hug] I enjoyed your tale of adventure, the dice gods.. Gygax was right all along, entities shaped like dice beyond level 36 .. whoa. You do what you need to do, whenever you are inspired, you're not a machine and I doubt fans expect you to pump out content till we suck you dry .. and if some do, pff .. its worth the wait to see your new miniatures or builds, hear your tales, and you're infectious charisma always puts a smile on my face. What games would I suggest? umm.. no clue, I mostly make and paint miniatures, not played games with other people since the pandemic. Warhammer Quest - Frostgrave - Warhammer Fantasy Battle 6th Edition Skirmish - D&D
