    A little more info
The Loughcrew Cairns, also known as the Hills of Loughcrew or Sliabh na Caillí in Irish, are a collection of ancient burial tombs located in County Meath, Ireland. The site is situated on a group of hills that rise above the surrounding countryside and offer panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
The cairns date back to the Neolithic period, which began around 4000 BCE and lasted until around 2500 BCE. They are estimated to have been built around 3300 BCE, making them around 5000 years old. The tombs were constructed by early farmers who lived in the area and who had developed a sophisticated culture based on agriculture, animal husbandry, and trade.
The Loughcrew Cairns consist of about 30 passage tombs, which are similar in design to the more famous Newgrange and Knowth sites located nearby. These tombs were used for communal burial and are characterized by a long, narrow passage leading to a central chamber where the remains of the deceased were placed. The tombs were often used for multiple burials over time, and some of them contain elaborate carvings and inscriptions.
The site was rediscovered in the 17th century, and over the years, it has been subject to looting, vandalism, and neglect. However, in recent years, efforts have been made to preserve and protect the site, and it is now a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can explore the cairns and take in the stunning views from the top of the hills.
The Loughcrew Cairns are a fascinating testament to the rich cultural heritage of Ireland's ancient peoples and offer a unique insight into the beliefs, practices, and traditions of these early societies.
    Thanks Google Earth

Loughcrew Cairns is an ancient burial site located in County Meath, Ireland. To get there, you can drive or take public transportation to the town of Oldcastle and then take a taxi to the site. It's also possible to take a guided tour from Dublin.
The walk up to the tombs involves a steep climb, but is a short hike. It's recommended to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for uneven terrain. Once at the top, you'll have access to several tombs with well-preserved carvings and a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. It's a unique cultural and historical experience and well worth the effort.

Thank you so much for this video! I visited in May 2022 and definitely did not allow enough time. Visiting Ireland again next month, Nov 2023, and planning to spend more time at Loughcrew Cairns. Hopefully it won't be raining, haha!

Excellent David. Certainly not too long. Approach road from and to Trim, or Tara might be handy. Dates the centre is open. Nearest toilet and place to get coffee or a lunch?

Is it true that Cairn L on Carnbane West also is aligned to the sunrise on Samhain and Imbolc? Is that one accessible to see? Thank you!

It is aligned to the equinoxes but is sited on private land. If you are visiting the area, it may be worthwhile contacting the land owner and maybe get permission to visit the site. I do not have any contact information.
