To all the choristers out there: can you imagine how difficult it would be to maintain this kind of breath control over 30+ minutes of performance? Never mind finding your opening pitches and staying on-key, what we're seeing here is heroic _control._

The lyrics of this song are repeated, in Latin, "Oh lord have pity / mercy on us." Gorecki is the best composer in the last 100 years and the last great modern composer. His work is emotional, moving, stunning, simple, and a gut punch, all in one.

I love this. It is so emotional although I am not religious. His symphony no. 3 captivates me and brings me to tears, although my wife finds it too sad. I think Gorecki, perhaps appeals to people with a very deep and possible depressive nature. Sorry if this is too emotional a response but it is what it does for me and is, perhaps cathartic as I have suffered for the challenges of Depression for most of my life.

I love sad music. Gorecki is my favorite modern composer but I also love Adagio in G minor by Albinoni. When I was young I would play that so that I could cry. Music is very personal and very emotional if you are fully cognizant and human.

Cudowna muzyka i piękna interpretacja.

Did you get to see the CFN performance before lock-down? I hope that Górecki gets the credit he deserves in Poland. One of the great modern composers, for sure.

@@ChollieD Gorecki is absolutely my favorite modern composer. His music stirs me, uplifts me, crushes me. Stunning in every way. Pure art at it's highest form. It saddens me that most people are unfamiliar with this incredible Polish composer that composed in Poland when it was under the Iron Curtain of communism. He composed during the Solidaritat uprising when people were beaten and clubbed for sitting as a form of protest.
