Our auto insurance went up over 25% and home over 30% last year. Nothing on our end changed. No accidents, no tickets, no claims. It makes me so mad that I’m forced to pay more to cover the slackers who do not have insurance.

As a parent who had to bury two children YES you do need child life insurance. Funerals are expensive and you dont want to be told "we can keep your child in cold storage." Buy level term life, it is cheap and can be upgraded in 20 years with no health screening required.

@@robins3206 we had progressive back in 1997. Got rear-ended by a kid speeding in a pickup delivering pizzas. (He had no insurance BTW.) for reference, our car was an Acura integra GSR and the trunk was touching the front seats and the chassis was also bent longitudinally as a result of the impact. The adjuster for progressive said the fix was to cut the car in half and weld the back end of an integra that had been in a front-end collision onto our vehicle - good as new he said! F*** THAT we said and fought them. Ultimately got what we wanted but I would never ever ever ever EVER EVER EVER get progressive again. Beware.

When your home and car insurance go up, you might start with the insurance company you are already with, BUT, most likely, they will only be dropping the price by reducing the coverage. We just got our house insurance bill. It went up 23% from last year! Our car insurance has been trickling up monthly all year. We combine auto with the house, shopped around and got more coverage for less money. We paid the same on our house insurance that it was last year. They raised our house value coverage by almost double, and our garage/apartment building coverage also doubled. It also had identity theft coverage, and we saved $45 a month on car insurance. Also, the car insurance is locked in and will not go up for the cars we currently have. Our total savings for the year will be $800 plus the pay out increased value of our property. We did have to pay our car insurance annually instead of monthly. Just have to budget thru the year for it, along with home property taxes.

I chose to disagree when it comes to the life insurance. My kids, husband and I have whole life policies. For the four of us, it is less than $115 a month total. Payout for our kids is $35K, and for husband and I, $50K. It is guaranteed. My husband and I also have a high interest savings account where we put the quoted amount of a term policy into and let it grow interest so in case something does happen, that money is guaranteed for our children. I do not see myself paying the high price of term life insurance and lose all that money at the end of the term.
