Please add some rock salt to Dettol and then apply to legs upto knees. This worked out for me during monsoon, very much effective

Surprisingly, odomos works super fine on keeping the leeches away... Apply it on your hands and legs even above your socks and shoes so that it gives much more confidence.. Try it out next time..

I agree to the point of letting them for sometime and they usually fall off. You have to be careful removing the leeches, even by the methods suggested in the comments, as there is a chance the fangs (like in bees) can get stuck in your body and it causes infection later. If people are not comfortable having them on them, they could carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer and a quick spray removes them, a full doze can kill them too.

      Hi Anand
These are good points that you are sharing here. I did have the question marks about the suckers while removing. The best thing is to just let them be and fall off on their own I guess.

The last trek i went to was in a hill of Aizawl, Mizoram and man those leeches gave me nightmares till this day. Of course my friends didn't even bother. 😁

The leech marks do remind you of the trails you've been to.. long after you're back from the trek. 🙂

@@35mm_DREAM they find ways through even the slightest of spaces, once I went to a forest where leeches are common with long socks and tight leather boots thinking no leech would be able to enter, fast forward to some hours later I came home and when I took off my boots, two big leeches (one in each leg), my legs were bleeding and the creepiest part is you don't even feel them.

@@35mm_DREAM leeches not only crawls up from the ground level. They can actually drop on you from the tree branches above. So there could be many ways they end up inside your clothes.

      Hi Sir
Oh yes. Thanks for pointing this out. You can remove the leech by holding the leech's head/suckers using your fingers. These are the ones clinged to your body. Even using your fingernail to remove the head and then flicking away will work. If you have tried anything else that works, do feel free to share them here :)

Hi, I generally place a steel spoon or small knife which makes leeches fall by itself without harm. This is main malnad people trick. Leeches can’t withstand on iron things.
