      I think you'll find that remembering your name comes first, then your socks, then remembering where you put your guitar and finally remembering that you could actually do a lot of this stuff back in the 60's. Arthritis and stupidity don't help either but I still enjoy watching someone young & talented do it well. Mr. Scott, I salute you from England

    Man, that tip at the end where you talk about how important it is to record yourself is HUGE! I’ve been doing it for the last few years and it’s improved my playing 10 fold, that and playing along with a looper.

    The main thing that I am impressed with is how you are able to do this with a guage 11 string set and do a whole step bend with vibrato, that is some serious finger strength.

    The biggest issue my students have is bending to pitch. It just takes practice, practice, practice. Listening to recordings of yourself is great advice. I have them fret a whole step then go down and bend to it over and over. And maintenance is also important. Keep the fret board clean, keep the frets polished, and change strings when they need it.

    • @MatthewScottmusic
      @MatthewScottmusic  Před 4 lety +2

      yes its muscle memory. remembering where to bend those notes to reach pitch. Which then changes when switching Gibson to fender and different string size

      ALT3REDB3AST you should tune your guitar a half step or a whole step down and practice bending with vibrato for a week or two. When you’ve mastered it you can then tune your guitar back to normal and try mastering it. It should make it easier and funnier because it will feel like you’re making a lot of progress without hurting your fingers too much

    though I long since know how to bend, I came on to see how you would show someone who doesn't. good tips for sure. that slide into a step and a half bend is a common Clapton move. sometimes he even bends two steps. one more tip to add for new players would be to know what note they are bending to so they can hit it accurately. a half step bend is the note one fret up, whole step bend is the note two frets up and so forth. play that note first and then bend to it. great lesson.

    Great stuff there Matthew. I always think that stevies vibrato always seemed to be completely in time with the song. It wasn’t just a random shake like many other players do, he made the heavy vibrato swing with the song like on so excited. But he would also be really subtle with it on tunes like Lenny but always he gets it to sing with the timing of the tune. Regards from Liverpool.
