I love how Simon played this role, he really became a cute cheerful boy Nanki-Poo. Also the chemical with Helen Donaldson was perfectly matched, they were a real lover on the stage. I didn't see such character links in other version.

Very funny. From someone who played in an amateur production many years ago. For the Australian audience, Oh bugger the flowers of Spring!

... okay, we know Nanki-Poo has to marry Katisha or perish ignominiously on the scaffold. Now, Nanki-Poo has got married to someone else. If Katisha demands that he be put to death for this, is she not compassing the death of the heir apparent? A very large pot of boiling oil awaits. Besides, flirting is the only crime punishable by death and burial alive is reserved for the wives of men who flirt. If Nanki-Poo is executed for not marrying Katisha, then Yum-Yum is safe. The plot is beautifully complicated and I am certain G&S knew every bit of it.
I really do like this performance. It's updated in just the right spirit. It remembers that The Mikado was something like the Monty Python and the Holy Grail of its era -- comic genius presenting itself through the medium of the time. The intended audience is not the London theater crowd, but simply anybody who wants to laugh.

    The feeling of finishing
    Hi-ya
Is a blossom that blooms in my heart As I merrily dance and I sing
    Hi-ya
I welcome the hope that it brings
    Hi-ya
Of finishing things that I start
Of finishing things that he starts.
And that's what he means when he says finishing
Is welcome as flowers that bloom in the spring.
Entire Cast: Hi-ya ya ya ya ya (2x)
